Thanks for the support!
Yeah, no, I am pretty well versed in the show. Grew up taping the old shows on VHS back in the 80s to watch with my father when he got home from work.
I'm really digging Season 3. Less character development for new characters we do not care much about while entertaining us with the characters we all enjoyed 35 years ago. Yet I was still ok with most of the new characters they tossed in this season. I give this season a thumbs up.
Didn't a red shirt die in most episodes of TOS? Wasn't Kirk sexually assaulting alien women on every planet? I think they also used the most profane language they could get away with on CBS in 1968 (half-breed green blooded hobgoblin). I can recall multiple episodes where people were being tortured. Hell, one of my favorite episodes of TNG is Picard being tortured (there are FOUR lights).
I binged Season 1-3. I'm giving up on Season 4 I think. I was getting all confused as to why different characters were doing what they were doing and what side they were on.
It's the only way I can imagine a hundred or so women and children could wake, pack up, and leave without a single man noticing. The men weren't there.
Added above. I gave really brief reviews due to the length of the list. :D
Ok, sorry it took me a bit to get back to it. Here is the list with my IMDB ratings I gave the movies at the time I watched them.
Idiocracy - The first ten minutes were interesting, and the rest was kind of silly. 4/10
Inception - Interesting idea, I think I preferred the abridged Rick and Morty version. 7/10
Inglorious Bastards - Not bad for an alternate history. Like most Tarantino movies, some parts were a bit drawn out. 7/10
Interstellar - I need to watch it again, but I recall enjoying it. 7/10
Iron Man - I really haven't enjoyed any super hero movies since Tobey Maguire in Spiderman. Huge Superman I and II fan with Reeves. 5/10
Knives Out - Liked it but don't remember much. 7/10
Napoleon Dynamite - one of the few on your list that I actively quote. 8/10
No Country for Old Men - Probably should watch it again. 6/10
Old School - I can't remember anything about it and forgot to rate it but recall thinking Animal House is the ultimate fraternity movie.
Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood - Need to watch it again. 7/10
Pan's Labyrinth - Didn't rate it. Remember it being sad.
Star Trek - These movies are fun, although I prefer Shatner and Stewart. 8/10
The Aviator - forgot to rate it. Recall it being alright.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - I liked some of the shorts more than other. Should watch it again. 7/10
The Grand Budapest Hotel - Had trouble following this one. 5/10
The Irishman - Didn't do too much for me. Would watch anything with this cast though. 6/10
There Will Be Blood - Recall liking it but don't remember much else. 7/10
Weren't all the men out of town posting bail for the rapists except for the one drunk guy who was passed out at home?
Yeah it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Certainly better than anything I could put together. I had a hard time believing that the group of women depicted here would be so well spoken and able to achieve everything they did considering their lack of education and isolation from so many aspects of the world.
I thank you kindly for the list. I've seen maybe ten of these. You were kind to provide the list, so I won't go into further critique or discussion about it (unless you would welcome it) other than to say I'll pick some of these and watch them for sure.
I think you guys are right about being locked into a different era. It could be affecting my judgement.
I would LOVE some suggestions. Something that I could watch over and over like Aliens, The Princess Bride, The Big Lebowski, etc.
Considering I only even saw one other movie on the Best Picture list, I'm afraid maybe I am too old and / or disinterested to have a valid opinion anymore. I guess there are plenty of folks out there that did enjoy the film very much. I gave it 6/10.
I haven't seen a really good movie in almost 20 years, so in comparison to anything else I have seen lately, it was decent.
I was really sad that one tweet or whatever was enough to get her banned from the new Roseanne show. I'm not a fan of cancel culture where people get their jollies watching someone at the top get knocked down for one mistake. I prefer a world where people can redeem themselves and make up for their transgressions.
Roseanne (the show) definitely had some great writers. The chemistry between the actors was excellent as well.
I like Will Smith. I think he made a serious mistake, and people do make mistakes. I dislike when people make a mistake and it unnecessarily ruins an otherwise good career, so I hope Will continues to make good movies and learns from this.
That being said, Chris laid Will the fuck out! It was well deserved. I hope Chris made a shit ton of money while pissing all over Will.
I'm not an expert, but even today, Norway has like 7% the population of German(or 4% the population of Russia). I think it would be a challenge for any country with this much difference in population to expect to come out the victor.
You have a good point that I was wondering about. Maybe it is an aspect of Korean cinema that I am just not familiar with yet and so it seemed out of place.
There were probably underlying messages in the movie that I missed. The idea that there were different levels of preservation you could have post-death based on how much money you had was interesting.
And yes, very sad that she passed away in real life.
