A great film.
You're right but that's just good filmmaking. The character's actions move the plot, not the other way around.
Always bugged me too. He's at a boxing match. He's yelling. Why they decide to act as if he's doing something inappropriate or out of the ordinary is beyond me.
The first time I saw this film I switched it on right at the beginning of this scene. About 3 or 4 minutes in I realized "Holy shit, this has been one take the whole time." A great scene from a great film.
That always annoyed me too. Great movie nonetheless.
"Oh I'm the help motherfucker? Why'd the chicken cross the road? Because the road crossed the chicken."
John Carpenter's Vampires
I'm serious. It's a B movie but a damn fun one. Roger Ebert even said in his review Woods should be nominated for Best Actor for his role.
"Also does the bass take away from the vocals?"
Nodding my head yes in the background.
I do think that's it. If he goes home to London empty handed he loses. If he voluntarily gets off the plane to go back it means he's been beaten, even temporarily, and he loses. If he gets kicked off the plan he has no choice but to go back to Gals and he wins.
"john steals some burgers like eddie murphy in golden child with the potato chips."
Yo flip those man they're burning!
This post was deleted because DON'T YOU FUCKING LOOK AT MY POST, I'LL PUT YOU IN THE FUCKING GROUND!
Have you met this guy? He's not exactly one for following societal norms and courtesies.
Other than that, perhaps he either knew he had to or at least had a the urge to go back to Gal's and subconsciously this was his way of doing that.
Alien is in fact nothing more than a generic horror movie in space, like Halloween with a crew, and the alien is Michael Myers, or Friday the 13th but it takes itself much too serious, full of corny dialog.
See what I did there?
ALIENS is, imo, far superior.
The entire scene in Archie's house with Mr. Manfrenjensonden.
"Is it secret?"
"You have no idea how secret."
"Then why are you telling everyone!?"
All I'll say is if they ever do remake it they need to cast George Clooney as the Captain.
I would agree with your anti-hero assessment. He's "the good" only compared to the other two.
Agreed. There was a lot of The Thing in this film. People holed up due to a blizzard trying to figure out who is who. No one trusts anyone else. Even the audience doesn't know who is who until near the end. I think the shots of and setting up the guidelines outside were a clear nod to the audience by the director in case anyone had any doubts. Those lines never come up again and have nothing to do with the plot nor is there any payoff to putting them up. There was no need at all for it as it does nothing to enrich or expand upon the story, character, tone, plot, etc.
I just watched this and the whole time I was thinking "This is the most undisciplined, unorganized Army I've ever seen." If you don't like the drill or training you're free to just walk off through the trees and do something else. Feel free to disable Army property and when you don't think your buddy should have to run alone as punishment it's absolutely up to you if you want to jump down and run with him. The best way to get on the D.I.s good side is to question his orders, ask him his first name, and have a smoke together while you both have a heart to heart. You can absolutely try to kill another soldier and not only are there no repercussions you're even presented with the opportunity to try it again with a conveniently procured magazine of live rounds.
You mean like a Time Life book?
@davodikum: Thank you. The OP figured out what the title of the movie meant like it was some ambiguous, Lynchian puzzle to be solved.
