I actually don't care that he votes Republican

I really don't like this guy at all. He played two different movie characters I loathe and despise and I still hate him for it. Sometimes I wonder if he's a dickhead in real life.

reply

Thank you for expressing this. For a minute I thought you had reasonable reasons to dislike people. But I see it doesn’t take much. So it begs the question, why do you hate RFKjr so much? Did he play a role you didn’t like?

reply

I don’t care about his politics, in fact I might agree with some of his opinions, I never cared so much as to investigate.

But his work speaks for itself…Salvador, Casino, True Believer, Cop, Cat’s Eye, Videodrome…SO many more! I love this dude, often the smartest and most frenetic actor in a scene, always pacing, pensive, trying to sort out every angle. Great actor, never boring or false.

reply

Once Upon a Time in America. The best. The Boost was good. Very intense performance.

There are some personal things I read about where he has gone after people that he felt threatened by in some way and really did a number on them. If it is true, it is very disturbing. Also, he’s taken a contentious political stance that’s alienated him from his peers and actually excluded him from things he would really like to be a part of. I think he misses being highly revered by them. He is a great actor. Sometimes people who are extremely smart also are lacking. In his case, he may have a cruel steak.

reply

Oh, I’m not aware of his personal life, merely his screen work which I think was really amazing. I wouldn’t know if he was a crazed asshole in his personal life…never heard any weird stuff but I wasn’t poking around either.

I just really admire a lot of his acting.

reply

So you saw Once Upon a Time in America? And The Boost?

reply

Once Upon yes, I only recall it was very good but it’s been a heck of a long time so no specific memories. The Boost, I don’t recall seeing that one tbh.

reply

I think Woods considers his best performance was in Once Upon a Time in America.

They are both excellent movies and he is exceptional in them. The first one by Sergio Leone with De Niro is a masterpiece. I am not sure The Boost is a crowd favorite - extremely intense which is why he’s soooo good.

reply

I vaguely recall it was about a NY Depression Era stick up gang and I seem to recall DeNiro raping a woman during an armed robbery which should have immediately led to his execution or at least expulsion. Sheesh, we are robbers boys, not monsters!

Probably due for a rewatch soon.

reply

Since you enjoy him, you will like these. Like I said he liked himself in that movie the most.

reply

John Carpenter's Vampires

I'm serious. It's a B movie but a damn fun one. Roger Ebert even said in his review Woods should be nominated for Best Actor for his role.

reply

Oh heck yeah!
Vampires was a really good one!

reply

The Onion Field? I am seeing it at a theater this week.

reply

Not a coincidence he is also one of the smartest actors in Hollywood. He was accepted to MIT **before** he was famous. That is a tough thing to do. Most actors are mouth breathing high school dropouts that shouldn't be offering their opinion on anything that is happening in the world.

reply

So what? Lots of smart assholes graduate from college. Doesn't make them a better person than people who don't go to college, and frankly, it doesn't make him any smarter than the rest of us. Colleges these days are a joke and a scam.

reply

I agree with you that most colleges are a "joke and a scam." Students pay a lot of money to learn nothing and earn a worthless degree. However, MIT isn't like most other colleges and universities. It is one of the world's premiere institutions of higher learning, and a degree from there means something. You have to demonstrate great work ethic and intellectual ability (as measured by SAT/ACT scores) just to be admitted.

However, you don't need to know that about him to see that he is intelligent. He doesn't parrot someone else's talking points, he shares his original ideas with the world, suggesting he can think critically and creatively on a wide variety of topics. That is something most are just incapable of. The average person can become very knowledgeable on a few specific topics, but not much beyond that.

I don't know how you roll, but as for myself, I would rather hear the opinions of the truly intelligent, as opposed to the truly average (or truly below average).

reply

He wasted his degree if he went there and then went into acting, or if he went after his acting career died and got it, because I frankly haven't seen him do anything productive with whatever degree MIT could give him. I wouldn't call doing that very smart.

He's like one of my aunts, who bragged about and lorded her college degree over others, while doing nothing in terms of a career except being a housewife and a nanny.

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ― Joseph Campbell

Who among us knew exactly what we wanted to do when we graduated high school? James started out on the life that was planned for him, but eventually chose to follow his bliss and choose the life meant for him. I personally wasn't so fortunate. I took formal education all the way, earning a Ph.D., but I have learned I really don't care for office work. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have gone to college. I have always loved the ocean and diving. I would have joined the Navy right out of high school and tried to make it as a Navy diver. Do my four years, then become a commercial saturation diver. It is a very dangerous, but very high paying job. If I survived that, I would have effed of to some island, like St Lucia, for the rest of my days.

How can he be like your aunt when he never graduated from college? He has no degree to lord over anyone.

reply

That would have been an impressive career. At one point I considered joining either the navy or air force, possibly to become a meteorologist, because both branches need weather forecasters; but the boot camp thing turned me off.

So Mr. Woods didn't graduate? Then why are you making a big deal over him going to MIT to start with?

reply

"He wasted his degree if he went there and then went into acting, or if he went after his acting career died and got it, because I frankly haven't seen him do anything productive with whatever degree MIT could give him. I wouldn't call doing that very smart."

Oh, and you are a genius, right AmeriGirl26?

James Woods is a brilliant man. He went into acting because because he wanted to and he is very good.

He did do something productive.

reply

"Lots of smart assholes graduate from college."

There are colleges and there are colleges. He was accepted into MIT. That's Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Have you ever heard of it?

You have to be a genius to be accepted at MIT.

Hello, hello, anybody home?

"I really don't like this guy at all. He played two different movie characters I loathe and despise and I still hate him for it. Sometimes I wonder if he's a dickhead in real life."

That's odd. He says good things about you!

Well, maybe he would if he knew who you were.

reply

Only an uptight busy body would dislike an actor because of a role he played.

reply

You're gonna have to do better than that if you wish to insult me.

reply

I don't need to, I made my point.
