The adjustable humour setting seems in itself like a dumb distraction for the crew. Much more important things to worry about on the mission. Surely the AI can learn by itself by processing the reactions from the human crew and self-adjust. Just watched it again, it is indeed an outstanding movie. It's so good - the scenes, dialogue, acting, characters. A really well-made enjoyable film and I'm not surprised it's rated so highly. I watched it for the second time since I last posted about it and thought again that it'd be a bit of a candidate for a remake in 2024 considering all the cyber / AI / tech element it has going. Definitely. His character and acting was way above everyone else in the movie, even Ben Stiller. My kids also lost interest on and off, especially when the parents started interacting and the counselling stuff. But we know someone quite well who looks and acts just like the main kid so it made it a little more interesting for us. The most amusing parts were the awful names Jack Black's character had for the main kid, eg. Turd Breath and such. Yes, good call! I see many similarities with this character here. Yes, it was a bit silly. Maybe it would have made more sense if he had slashed her tyre or something, then offered to fix it for her and made his move then. Hmm, it would have to be someone who wouldn't mind gaining 20+kg (44+lbs) for the start of the role, to shed it during production as Hanks' character did. It is a nice movie, especially when the ending comes. The birds are very beautiful and impressive. I think it was real as I recall Roman saying it was his 'last chance' to turn things around or something. I am an 80s kid and love so many films from this period, love Candy and Aykroyd, and it even has the girl from The Boy Who Could Fly in it (who made very little films), but I never saw this film until the weekend just passed. I'd say that no, it is not a must-own film. I don't think I'd ever watch it again. Just wasn't that great to me. Had its moments, but was quite mediocre overall. As others have stated, I always thought that Vader simply got 'promoted' after Tarkin died. I also feel that Lucas, being the smart filmmaker that he was, adapted to what was most successful from ANH for the rest of the films, eg. Vader resonated so well with audiences so he was made more prominent. I completely agree that it has incredible sound design. This majorly contributed to the unique style and production and overall success of the film. It set new standards, that's for sure. The musical score is another major contributor. Instead of having a trendy synthesizer score which was common to sci-fi of the seventies, Lucas went with epic orchestral music which really elevated our perception of what was happening on screen. I know exactly what you mean. The cast selection was quite out of touch with the sci-fi crowd which had pushed Star Wars to number one in the box office. Star Wars proved that relative unknowns can work really well if everything else is working for it. I've wanted a remake of this for a long time. I really hope it happens. Haha yeah, it was quite refreshing, and very well done! 'Saturday Night' is another new loosely, kinda-related / themed film, but I wouldn't recommend it. As much as I like the early SNL stuff, this film was a let down. I've been a fan of their work since forever and actually just read through the Sep update yesterday! I had wondered also if something had happened but, given the length of time things are taking, I'm guessing it's just taking them longer to bring us something good to share. Bit of a soppy romance but there's Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve. You have to have a bit of patience to enjoy it. Nice interpretation! :)
