Buddy stories aren't always about helping each other, though. I recall seeing Butch Cassidy in theaters when it was released. No film ever depressed me more, specifically because it attempted to be a "people helping people" film.
Come to think of it, I can't name a single non-Disney film from the late 60's--early 70's that *didn't* depress me.
Yep. I was trying to remember the name when I made my list... Dang, I made a list on the IMDB message boards exactly like this, for the exact subject thread question.
Great to see others remember H&T! Funny thing: while it *is* heartbreaking, I admire like crazy that the producers didn't dwell on...the sad thing. In fact, I was kind of upset, the first time I saw the film, that so little time was spent on it and that it was, rather, glossed over. I guess we should move this to the H&T board.
The Trip to Bountiful

Yes, it is a thorough and insightful response, but you summed it up more succinctly: he didn't give a rat's ass about anything or anyone.
"Wolf Hall" is on again tonight on PBS, 10 p.m.
Thanks!
Of course forums are public. But human nature being what it is, and none of us knowing the caliber of spirit responding to us at any given time, human nature has to be taken into account on any site that can use common-sense. You're very right that I'm talking about stalking, not trolling, and stalking is upsetting under any conditions.
You don't know me; I don't know you. But that doesn't matter. Human decency can be a matter of computer code exactly as the posters above have suggested. In order to participate on this site, my user name will have to be searchable only by those whom I want it searched by. Again, if I or anyone creates problems that deserve being reported to the site administrator or moderator, I or anyone else deserve to be censured.
Unless the internet finds ways to restore a certain amount of privacy (as Europe has already demanded Google do), then many people will "retire" from it.
And that's a shame, because this site already feels like Old Home Week at the-site-that-shall-not-be-named :) .
Yeah, I'm gun-shy about filling out any unfamiliar website forms with my financial information. I went to donate the first time I signed up--under a name the website refuses to accept the password for. When I saw that it wasn't PayPal, I decided to wait.
SUPERB!!! All-in for this great idea.
Thank you. I did read that thread. The problem is that having a search-user function (the knowledge of whose existence here, so fast here already, I owe to you) is that sockpuppeting, the heinous and brazen sockpuppeting that in my not-totally-uninformed opinion brought about IMDB MB' demise, will continue. Jim can't prevent it; his moderators can't prevent it; if this site is to be a monetized vocation or avocation for him (and godspeed with that well-deserved idea), he can't be, like, the Borg Queen with tentacles to every board and every user.
I am very very concerned about the search-by-user capability.
Again, thanks.
Ruh-ro... Guess that means I'm done with MovieChat. Thanks.
I never have posted in caps in 20 years online. BUT PLEASE, DO *NOT* ALLOW SEARCHES BY USER NAME. If other users are allowed to see your post history, I will not remain on this site WHICH IS THE ONLY SITE POST-IMDB I HAVE JOINED.
I don't care about anything else but privacy. Trolling is made possible by other users' ability to follow you from board to board. If a post is sufficiently offensive, reporting it should be enough to solve the problem.
Thank you so very much for this enormous effort. It is so great to see MovieChat in the #1 slot on my Bing "favorites" page.
True story: I was advertising this site on my Favorites when one post wouldn't "take." I kept trying to refresh the "D'Oh" error page, and go back to the board...until it hit me. They didn't even have the courtesy to tell U.S. users that the "black-out" would happen on Greenwich time.
I placed a pretty substantial order at Amazon the day before, not knowing that Jeff Bezos, who seems insane, also owned IMDB. I can truthfully say I will not shop at Amazon again. I went through an anti-Amazon phase about ten years ago and stuck with my boycott for over five years, but gradually drifted back. Not this time.
To be honest, I took such offense at people from Imdb2 or whatever it's called posting openly here, in this HUGE effort's first day, saying they prefer it (after 12 hours? 6 hours?)... I'll stay here. I dislike the dated look of the other sites, too.
A *tremendous* amount of work has gone into replicating the old place that dumped us all, in an effort to take away the sting. I for one am grateful for it.
(I posted on a t.v. show board and will continue to.)
I checked some of my Favorites, and it seems as if the (understandable) lag in this new site's cloning of each specific board *might* explain some former board member's reluctance to jump aboard.
