Great Movies of People helping People

Usually the best stories are one on one (non-love story), but if it's great, that's enough :)

Buddy stories aren't always about helping each other, though. I recall seeing Butch Cassidy in theaters when it was released. No film ever depressed me more, specifically because it attempted to be a "people helping people" film.

Come to think of it, I can't name a single non-Disney film from the late 60's--early 70's that *didn't* depress me.

"The Miracle Worker" (Annie helping Helen)
"The Exorcist" (Karras and Merrin trying to help the possessed child)
"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (the ghost is the helper)
"Captains Courageous" (Manuel helps the child who fell overboard)
"A Star is Born" (Norman helps Esther with her career)

Which version of "A Star is Born" did you see? (I liked the one with Garland/Mason)

Great movie but so depressing I don't want to repeat view it. But it's so good I'll never forget. Basically, it ruined my sleeps.
