Great Movies of People helping People
Usually the best stories are one on one (non-love story), but if it's great, that's enough :)

shareIt was a little too melodramatic for my tastes, but "Pay It Forward" certainly matches the definition.
shareAgain I'll go with Cocoon, although it wasn't solely one-on-one trying to help others.
The Enchanted April.
Schindler's List (again not solely one-on-one).
The Fall (film, not TV show).
E.T. (does an E.T. count as a people?)
Sophie's Choice, although it's not altogether clear who is helping whom.
A short while back I stumbled onto a little gem of a movie titled, Under the Same Moon. Without giving too much away, one of the main characters was initially very selfish about his personal survival and does a complete about face to the point of sacrifice.

Harry and Tonto
The Best Years of Our Lives
Too many to Mention
Harry and Tonto is the best example (also my favorite movie ever!)
I also liked "The Best Years of Our Lives"
Harry and Tonto is an excellent movie. It broke my heart. I love The Best Years of Our Lives. William Wyler was a great director. Did you see the documentary Five Came Back? They talked about the Best Years of Our Lives in that. It's a wonderful movie to see no matter what.
shareGreat to see others remember H&T! Funny thing: while it *is* heartbreaking, I admire like crazy that the producers didn't dwell on...the sad thing. In fact, I was kind of upset, the first time I saw the film, that so little time was spent on it and that it was, rather, glossed over. I guess we should move this to the H&T board.
shareMen Don't Leave (1990)
So good!
The Letter Writer (2011) came to mind immediately. Incredible pay-it-forward throughout.
