I understand your feelings. To insert the requisite "taking a comment too literally," such a law would, of course, be completely unconstitutional.
And my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.
Its a series of vignettes based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Elliot. They tagged in a very broad framing story on which cat will be chosen to ascend to the Heaviside Layer. Otherwise it is simply the various stories from the book. Its still a beautiful and fascinating show.
Saw it. I didn't hear any cracking. I didn't think he was badly cast. He looked just about the age Solo would be a few years before ANH.
I was unaware that a 29 year old is barely a man with a cracking voice.
You are correct. Neither Great Britain nor the US uses the Napoleonic system. (I'm sure other nations don't as well, but I don't have a handy list.)
True, but babycinderella was claiming regular British law enshrined guilty until proven innocent. My response was this is incorrect. Wizarding law could easily be different, as it seems to be for American wizards if Fantastic Beasts depiction is accurate.
You know, I really get tired of these types of posts. Why do these aliens speak English. Why do the people in this historic drama speak English. It's tiresome.
Its a trope that is common in all types of theater that the characters speak in the native language of the watchers. So in a Spanish production they would speak Spanish. In a Chinese production they would speak Mandarin or Cantonese.
It is simply a method to simplify the work needed by the audience so they can concentrate on the story. Yes, occasionally a production will be produced in an ancient language (Passion of the Christ or Apocalypto) or a conlang language. (Klingon, Vulcan, Dothraki). These are done for dramatic effect and can be effective. But if every movie or series did this it would be tiresome. The audience would be so absorbed in reading subtitles that they don't concentrate on the story.
It's part of the joke. Igor is contemptuous of the change.
Look at it like this: "So you pronounce Frankenstein as Fronkensteen. Then do you pronounce Frederick as Froderick? What is wrong with you."
Nothing more and nothing less. And to another poster, I doubt it has anything to do with being Jewish. He's simply changing the pronunciation so he won't be associated with his infamous ancestors.
They don't look all white to me. And I hope you've now noticed that the red-head in the lower corner is Mrs. Whatsit, who is a major character in the story.
The archetypes in the other countries didn't match the ones in the US because the culture and stereotypes were different. In other words, in Japan there was not a jock, a virgin, a fool, etc. nor would those archetypes appease the ritual in Japan. The same applies to the other countries. The archetypes from those countries would not satisfy the ritual in the US.
As Tom Lehrer said, the purpose of new math was to understand what you were doing, rather than to get the right answer.
It's issues were that in the name of simplicity it made doing math far more difficult. I was a kid during the height of this. My mother came in one night while I was doing my long division homework. She watched me for a moment and asked why I was filling half the sheet of paper. I showed her the book. She snorted and taught me division as it had been practiced for decades. It was shorter and faster.
Luckily, I was in a Catholic school, that while was using a new math text, was more concerned that I (and my peers) finished the class being able to do math. I never used the new math principles again of standard math. I'd sit through class and then ask my mom or dad to show me the old way. Worked much better.
Different bases were something not taught earlier, and that was useful. And for our typical Americans are stupid foreign friends, my school started us on Algebra in 8th grade. We were into pre-calculus by the time I was a Senior in High School.
Agreed.
I don't call it arbitrary. It is not at all odd that someone could easily accept one thing (super powers based on science) and not believe that magic or sorcery or chi powers exist. Their own frame of reference may not allow them consider or grasp such a power.
DC has a character called Mr. Terrific. I've never read much with him. However, I have read some. He's an atheist. He doesn't believe in God or any godlike powers. DC also has an angel hero, Zauriel. He is an actual angel who served Heaven for eons. He came to earth and joined the JL. Mr. Terrific does not accept Zauriel as an angel. That is impossible since God and angels do not exist. Zauriel must be an alien of some kind or someone who developed his powers through some type of science.
I found Strange's initial reaction to magic quite believable.
The Saturn Awards don't follow the calendar year. The cut off date for the last ones awarded was Feb. 20, 2018. Black Panther was released on Feb. 16, 2018; so just under the wire. This is easily found with a simple google search.
However, the op is incorrect on some things. Black Panther won Best Comics to
Media Release. Blade Runner was not eligible in that category.
Blade Runner was nominated, and won, in Best Science Fiction Film Release.
Also, many award shows aren't "aired." That has nothing to do with their importance or quality. The Saturn Awards are the awards of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.
Many comets, asteroids and similar objects are discovered by amateur astronomers every year. The sky is vast and even professional astronomers can't scan all of it. Most of them are pursuing their own research and would be concentrating on small areas of the sky. It is completely realistic that Leo (the characters name is Leo. And the actor's name is Elijah. I wish people would use one or the other when talking about this film and not Elijah's role in another, albeit more famous, film) could discover the comet.
Whether you liked it or not is completely up to you and no one can gainsay your opinion.
However, I fail to see how making a musical out of this time period is stupid or condescending. How, exactly, do you justify that position?
I know this is very late, but: whatever gave you the idea that Mars's gravity is less than half that of the moon? The acceleration of gravity on Mars is about 3.711 m/s(squared) (slightly more than 1/3 that of Earth). The acceleration of gravity on the Moon is 1.62 m/s(squared) (approximately 1/6 that of Earth.
The size of the moon relative to earth is pretty large compared to most systems we know about. I have heard some posit that the Earth-Moon system should be considered a double planet system. There are, of course, other moons in the solar system large enough to be considered planets.
Why do you find capes pretentious? Capes come and go in fashion like anything else. Currently they aren't in fashion (except for a few narrow exceptions). But it is likely they will come back at some point. And go again and come again. They are no sillier than ties, running suits, high heels or any other item of clothing.

Being a bit facetious, why do cats have pointed ears.
A bit more seriously there are a couple of possibilities. It could just be chance; if there is neither an advantage or disadvantage to pointed ears, then whichever one happened to develop first would stay.
It could also be, since the ears seem bit larger than ours, that they funnel sound more efficiently (or catch more sound) than round ones.
