What's Up With The Capes?

One of things that always annoyed me, when I watched the show was why are all of the male characters always wearing those capes?

It seemed to me that it was pretentious and over the top.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

Why do you find capes pretentious? Capes come and go in fashion like anything else. Currently they aren't in fashion (except for a few narrow exceptions). But it is likely they will come back at some point. And go again and come again. They are no sillier than ties, running suits, high heels or any other item of clothing.

I went to high school in the early '80s and one of my friends wore a short cape a couple of times.

Superman wears a cape. And I'll be damned if I am going to sit here and let you disparage Superman.

It was one of the many things, like single names (Starbuck, Apollo, etc) and a different form of government (a council of 12) used to sell the idea that these people were from another world. Unlike the reboot where people wore suits had first and last names and had a president. I would have loved to have had the reboot take the same approach with this but use the more advamced story telling techniques of the time. Instead we got a series that while well done simply was not Battlestar Galactica and more like Invasion of the Body Snatchers that takes place in the future.

"..why are all of the male characters"

Are you a sexist?

Are we all equal? Why can one gender do things the other can't, in your view?

Why shouldn't men be able to wear dresses and capes, if women can wear pants and suits?

Something is very wrong in this world, equality isn't respected at all, women are liberated but men are still kept imprisoned .. in SO many ways. I recommend everyone that lives in a male body get a cape, preferably brightly colored, and pink pants or a dress. It would look weird at first, but so did the first women who wore pants. Now it's so normal, no one bats an eye if a woman wears pink or black or yellow pants and walks all over the city.

It's VERY telling that even in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLD that has a completely different culture (despite everyone speaking and understanding english and having the same intonation patterns as The U.S. of Americans), you wouldn't allow someone to drape their physical body in a certain garment of certain shape, texture, color, style, form or functionality, ONLY because of what is inbetween their legs!

I think this is the very DEFINITION of sexism. Could you please retract your female-chauvinistic misandry-type sexism? Thanks.

The capes are part of their dress uniforms which are worn for formal ceremonies and celebrations only.
