Why Do nerds think this is the best show ever

I am just supposed to take all these YouTube personalities word for it?
It's a dumb show that lets you forget how shitty your life is

I really don't know. It's not that good. Its best episodes are just retreads of superior Star Trek stories. Yet the fanatical mania for this show rivals Nu Doctor Who in its prime. At first I thought folks were just excited to have anything like the good old days back on the air, but it's gone way past that. It's a fine show, I enjoy watching it. But fast food entertainment at best.

Why do you feel the need to attack nerds? If they like it, they like it. Do you need to berate them to make yourself feel better at life? Who cares.

Hear Hear!

I feel like a part of it comprises of the anger nerds feel towards std. So they praise the hell out of this tard, because it is marginally more similar to the original ST. There is this perception as if there is a war between STD fans and orville - the anger and hostility of the orville fans is real, but the problem is... are there any std fans out there? I haven't noticed any. So what's with this fanatism around this subpar tard? It's all rather odd.

reply

Not sure why nerds would be angry at stds. They rarely get to even have sex.

reply

Because theyre too close to it and unable to take a step back. If youre obsessed with a certain thing, which nerds usually are, you cannot really look at it objectively. I like Orville but the quality of the episodes severely varies and overall its far from the quality of classic ST series like TOS,TNG or Voyager, especially the storylines which are not 1/10 of the quality as theyre straight as an arrow, the exact opposite of standard ST storylines that were full of excellent twists and turns.

reply

Yes, exactly. These episodes of Orville are like they shot the wiki synopsis of a Star Trek ep. All the nuance is missing.

reply

I think you're right they're too close..I was obsessed with Star Wars from 78-83 but man, when Return of the Jedi came out I flat out didn't like it and really never bothered with it again. I know some people are the exact opposite that they loved ROTJ.

"It's a dumb show that lets you forget how shitty your life is"

Pretty much sums it up.I'm not saying it's bad.I enjoy watching it but It's basically just a more comedic laid back retread of Star trek:TNG.I would call it a spoof of TNG but its not straight up humor.

For me when I watch it's like it's the missing link between the goofiness of Star Trek Original and Next Gen, some of the stuff in the Kirk years was hilarious, I mean Playboy Kirk, some of the storylines and etc., come on.

So yeah not a show I think too much about, it's the okay time to take the brain out TV time and enjoy something a little less intense, kind of goes in hand with Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver and even The Blacklist really, just a bit of light fluff to balance out the more serious shows.

This came up elsewhere the other day, and I actually started thinking if it is because I'm in Australia and these shows are on for the most part during our Summer (Dec - March) if that makes me more relaxed about how I watch them. You know, you get to night time sun is going down at 9pm or so, it's been a long hot 42 °C (107 °F) day you want to sink a few beers and chill for a bit, you don't want to really think about what's happening on TV too much.

Where as in Winter the brains not so dead and you can hibernate to an extent into watching shows with a bit more to think about and binge on them a bit. Kind of like in winter you really sink your teeth into a good book and in Summer you just go for light reading, basically sitting out on the back deck reading a book or watching TV you're just looking for something to pass time while you chill not to stimulate you (as you know sleeping on a summers night will be difficult).

reply

That's blank asserting without any supporting arguments. Kind of difficult to consider seriously.

And anyway, what else do you want from a show?

Those are comments about the creator, not the show. If you stopped listening to gossip-- at least half of which is probably untrue anyway -- maybe you could actually enjoy yourself.

From all accounts Seth works very hard and got a degree at RISD so he has not come into this by accident.

Basically I like to form my own opinion and hate everyone

reply

Rather than focusing on what you cannot do, you might try focusing on what you can. You might find you enjoy life more that way.

reply

They are comparing it to STD

reply

You take TOS and TNG, mash them together, then replace some of the good stuff with silly humor, water it down and pander to SJW hollyweird a lot, and then try to subvert expectations a bit while still following all the clichés, so you connect every dot faithfully without much originality, and you got this show.

And of course you replace the interesting characters and charisma of the originals with goofiness and watered-down versions. Data, Worf, Kirk, Spock, Bones and even Scott are so much interesting and likable than any of this show's characters.

So it's like a 'wannabe-child' of the better Star Treks, but doesn't quite reach the mark. Entertaining, enjoyable, but flawed and predictable - funny and passable, but in the end, as a whole, boring and forgettable - it makes you miss the better Star Trek shows.

reply

Probably because it stars white men and not stupid women or minorities.

actually I found God, I am doing fine, can't wait till season 3 now lol went a little psycho there. Was a tough time in my life.

reply

Hey, let me be first to say Good For You!

Something people probably rarely think about is that someone may be posting the way they are just because they had a bad day, or week or year, and desperately need a place to vent.

You found him? Well tell that guy I haven't forgotten that he still owes me 20 bucks!

reply

I found God at the corner of First and Amistad.
He doesn't remember you

reply

Figures he would say that. He's just embarrassed that he lost $10 to me when I beat him in an arm wrestling match, and another $10 when I beat him in a chess game.
