I've seen all of Kevin Smith's movies except for this one and this movie started off with a decent score on here, but now I'm seeing nothing but hate for it and I'm wondering if it's really that bad. Is it really worse than Cop Out? I doubt it. I just don't think it will be a 1/10 movie like many of the reviewers of this site are making it out to be. It just seems like people are hating it because it's different from everything else he's done. Red State was different and while that isn't his best work it's still a good movie. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the movie does suck, but I don't think it will be a 1/10. It just cannot be that bad!
It's not a 1/10, but it's not a 3/10 either. I gave it 2/10. Yeah, it's really that bad, or at least the second half of the movie is. Red State is almost Oscar material in comparison.
i dont usually post here, and im not a fan of kevin smith in particular. i like him, liked dogma, among others, but did not liked the above mentioned red state, for example.
that said, i should say i really loved Tusk. i must say i that its not an easy movie for some people, but if u indeed just watch the movie for what it is, i think it is quite enjoyable.
for what i had read before i thought it was just another person is kidnapped by serial killer kind of movie, wich it is in its whole of course.
but what i really liked was the way he built it up with the story's while they where having tea, and then the actual reason he was doing all that. it was partly sad i think, for both the main characters, since one was demented of course, and the other had to live with the consequence of his actions.
if this was a chris nolan movie, or some new guy coming from sundance, everybody would have loved this movie. the human centipede is a good example, similar in a way, but more gruesome in another.
and like someone mentioned before some of the dialogues are indeed great, and richard parks performance is top notch. and jonny deep being a wee bit different than usual, gave the movie a nice blockbuster touch, if i might add.
watched some great movies that surprised me this year, like boyhood or even fury, and this one is indeed on my top 10 on the year, at least. it is not oscar material of course, but it is quite enjoyable.
Yeah, for a dumb body-horror/comedy, there was surprisingly well-done character work. It wasn't brilliant or anything, but considering these films usually ignore that aspect altogether it was a welcome change.
Opinion is subjective but The Human Centipede was better which I gave a 4/1o to. The movie suffers from a huge issue with tone. It is a cross between slapstick, horror, and dark comedy but it misses its mark on all. The FX are also lackluster IMO.
I personally think Depp thought he was hamming it up but it came across as just stupid.
Kevin Smith can make good films but after Red State and now this, it is obvious that Smith does not have a talent for the horror/horror comedy/satire type movies. The Clerks/Dogma/Silent Bob stuff was so much better.
I personally think Kevin Smith needs to go back to his original type movies before he gets classified as a director that has lost credibility from horrible films as of late.
I went into it with the lowest of expectations, after having watched some of the directors previous movies without being very impressed.I found myself positively surprised at how very well done some of the acting, and written dialog was. Also the cinematography is fitting for the premise; and let's all agree that the premise is ridiculous so anyone expecting anything else is smoking something that I would want a hit of.
But whatever floats your boat I guess. I just found the movie entertaining. Kind of like the Hungarian movie Taxidermia, which also is no definite masterpiece, but one of my favorites for it's unmatchable weirdness.
Sir that is the best comment in the Tusk thread. I just watched it the other day, and that movie is absolutely horrible. No one is hating...they're telling the truth. I've been a huge Kevin Smith fan since Clerks, but I'm no fanboy, and the only people giving this pile of crap good reviews are the fanboys who would love nothing more than to get down on their knees and suck Kevin Smith's di...well you know. The truth is if this movie had been made by a bunch of unknowns, everyone would be bashing it.
This is one of those rare moments where listening to the haters is actually the best thing you could do.
One of the worst movies I've ever seen (and I watch a lot of bad movies) made worse by Johnny depps 30 minute story about nothing

Fully agreed. It was sadly really REALLY bad despite the first couple of scenes in the first half with Parks & Long being excellent and the scenes with Genesis & Osment were great too when things get serious, then it drops off into BIZARRENESS and stays there and tries to be comedic and it doesn't land, the characters become annoying to the point where you don't care about them anymore.
