Good acting and good directing. But it's a bad movie. I'll tell you why.

Because it commits the one, main deadly sin that destroys a movie. It's boring.
You could have William Hurt, Sam Rockwell and Philip Seymour Hoffman directed by Scorsese, it wouldn't matter one damn bit when the movie is boring.
Yes, I know it's a "slow buildup" but it's BORING. And it didn't have to be. Lots of good movies have "slow buildups" or are generally slow, but they are still good.

And here comes the bit that's going to pull everybody's panties into a collective twist:
I turned it off after about one hour. Because it was boring.
I like art films, I admire the works of Von Trier, Malick and Wes Anderson. I do not demand constant action. I demand not boring.

Totally agree, not matter how you spin it or whatever verbal diarrhoea is spewed this is boring as hell.

I really liked it. I love that it had a build up, because the gruesome ending was superb. We need more films like this that build atmosphere.

I thought the cast was perfect, and did a superb job. There was definitely chemistry there which I find missing from so many films today.

boring is such a subjective concept that you really have no business using it to criticize any movie.

Well Tony, nobody wants a war. If we can't do business why we'll just shake hands and that'll be it!

reply

In truth, it really was rather boring.

There were a number of good "little" moments, but that doesn't make a movie.

"Slow West" had a similar pace & style, but it held my attention from start to finish. This movie did not.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

to certain people, star wars is boring.

Yup, agree with you. BORING.
Went to sleep after watching 3/4 of the movie, damn boring. It's a shame, the cast is great, the movie promised. But it was boring, some of the violence made me say woooooooooooooow oh boy, but it was boring anyway.

I agree with your criticisms, and I think turning it off after one hour does not invalidate your objection. The movie has problems galore, mixed with its good parts.

I really have to start with this piece of information:

I turned it off after about one hour. Because it was boring.

It's people like you who use "tl;dr" a lot. Just because you have the attention span of a common house fly doesn't mean it's a bad movie -- this was a great movie but you'll never know it.

You're right -- that statement got my panties in a twist. You couldn't be bothered to finish watching the movie because you were bored with it, but you did manage to jump in here to whine about something you were too lazy to finish. Are you kidding me?

You don't get to have an opinion.

For a bit of context, I've slept through many movies in my life, mostly action movies (transformers, batman, xmen, you name it) , because I just don't find them captivating enough for my small attention span.
This movie though, got me hooked from beginning through the end. I connected with the characters fast enough and I had to know what was going to happen to them.
