Racism??
Does this have not a higher rating because of racist ignorant people that were offended by diversity or is it just a mediocre film and not worthy of my time? I haven't seen the movie and am not throwing shade just really wondering..

shareI just returned from the theatre, racism is the last problem of this movie.
Besides the blatant fight between the good and the bad indian I found nothing racially oriented in this movie.
Juliet Parrish: You can't win a war if you're extinct!
It's no The Magnificent Seven (1960), but it's a fun popcorn flick that feels more like a summer movie. It's not great, but it's not bad. It was good to see Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke together again.
shareNo its just not your typical western. I really wouldnt even call it a western its a comedy and action film set in western times.
That being said if you saw a preview you knew this going in the way the preview was set up. I enjoyed the movie. It wasnt the best definitely not the worst. Quite funny and entertaining. It wont be winning any awards but it is a good movie compared to what has been released lately.

Actually I think there was plenty of white people that went to it. It was the minorities that didn't go that brought this down deservingly.
shareYou are correct!
shareIt's mostly racism. Worthless scum bags automatically rate any film or remake that cast people of color as slow as they possibly can before the film comes out and they even see it.
There are several white Americans upset because of the diversity of the cast. They have no idea that the Magnificent Seven that they love was actually a remake of Seven Samurai.
And some even know but they don't care because unless white people were in it it doesn't exist to them
I'm sorry did the Seven Samurai movie take place in Mexico in the 1800's as well?
Just Asking....
People don't like it because it has nothing.
Denzel's character is good until the end. His motivation is the tired old revenge, you killed my family? Come on!
The henchman Indian seems well paired with the knife wielding good guy. I was prepared for a good fight. But then he has a lame knife fight with the good guy Indian.
The big, bear skirmisher died without putting up much of a fight.
The movie had no strong characters, and it failed as a flat out action pic.
It mediocre. I'd say 7.2 is way too high.
shareLooking at the ratings breakdown there doesn't seem to be any rampant downvoting taking place.
Perhaps it's simply yet another mediocre remake of an established classic with too much modern humour thrown in to be plausible anymore.
Never defend crap with 'It's just a movie'

If this movie is getting any blind hatred it's probably because it's a remake. And those same people probably don't even know it's a remake of a remake, similar to the recent BEN-HUR. I've never seen SEVEN SAMURAI myself, but have at least heard of it.
I have yet to see this new film. I watched all the previous four films, and the TV movie Pilot, but I think I'll just wait for the DVD. I don't much care for the diversity. There was a black member of the "Seven" in GUNS OF THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and the TV Pilot, though I don't know why each of the original four movies had mainly Mexicans as the villains. Which is probably why the villains in the Pilot were ex-Confederate soldiers.
Denzel Washington is a good actor, so I don't think I'd mind him playing Chris. Yul Brynner wasn't even American. I just hope they don't keep drawing uncomfortable attention to him being black like when Will Smith was cast in the WILD WILD WEST movie and all of the sudden there were awkward race jokes thrown in.
