Better than the first film

Personally I found this a more satisfying watch. Full of fun action sequences, cute quips and a whole lot of costume porn. Jessica Chastain was a great addition and Emily Blunt is a very interesting ice queen. It's the only film (that I can think of) that is both a prequel and a sequel, but somehow totally works as a standalone.

I am a little surprised by all the negative reviews from critics. To each their own.

I'd recommend it if you like action adventure movies with a bit of romance and comedy sprinkled in.

I was ready to like this film despite some really bad reviews but it´s such a mediocre and generic piece of fantasy that I had hard time to finish it. I like costumes, some visuals and of course, cast is really great but story seemed so forced, movie is full of really irritating cliches and pacing was terrible. I firstly thought that lighter tone could bring some charms to the whole plot but it just looked and sounded dull most of its time.

I found first movie much more enjoyable and it´s overall a better movie. Even K. Stewart that was called wooden and miscast by some moviegoers was more than tolerable and fits actually very well to the film´s darker approach. I also find visuals much better in it, Theron had much better moments and had opportunity to shine as Ravena... and Hemsworth´s Huntsman was much more likable in a first movie.

I completely agree with you Olla, I didn't enjoy the first movie that much, but, I really enjoyed this one thoroughly.

Obviously we're in the minority here, but I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking it's better. I just remember being disappointed with Snow White's gritty re-telling, but letting them go off-book (off-fairytale?) let them do more fun and interesting things in the world established in the first movie.

Different strokes for different folks.

I agree with you as well. This was actually quite a fun watch. I thought the imagery was beautiful, especially those with Ravenna. Charlize steals the movie again.
The movie had humor as well as more serious moments.
The first was painfully boring to me, and as many have mentioned Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Snow White was quite terrible.
Too bad it didn't make more money.

reply

Exactly! I never claimed it was the best movie ever created, just that it's better than the first one. I am really happy that other people feel the same way, because it's pretty rare for a sequel to be better than the original. They balanced out the serious moments with humour and light-heartedness.

I don't mind Kristen Stewart, but I didn't really miss her in this because Snow White wasn't the focus.

let me guess-you work on staff at Universal promotions?

reply

Nope. I just have a different opinion than you.

This was made for money ONLY-the first film had some heart, at least

reply

ofcourse it was better then the first one there was no Kristen Stewart

I thought this movie was great, though predictable. I gave the first film an 8 and this one a 10.

I love the way you laugh.

Just finished this and it's A LOT better than the first. Enjoyed the comedy, the action (even though the CGI for the goblin-gorilla thing was disgusting and those blue flames... terrible) but aside from that it was very entertaining and Blunt was a great villain. I think it would work better as a stand alone fantasy film without the references to snow white though. The first film was utterly boring and a drag to watch (thanks kristen).

Couldn't agree more! I have to admit I didn't like the first 30 minutes or so but then it got really good. Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron were AMAZING. Totally stole the show.
