a one note, melancholic and dreary series

What I don’t understand is why Marvel thought it was a good idea to turn over a property to what clearly is an agenda filled few people that does nothing but taint the underbelly of the MCU.

Jessica Jones is a character in the books that certainly has flaws and issues but to take the basic elements of established Marvel characters and add a pro-homosexual lifestyle choice agenda, a pro-abortion agenda, deviant and emotionless sexual escapades among other dreary attributes is baffling and disappointing to say the least. The showrunner here clearly couldn’t wait to stamp a Marvel property with her warped agenda and it’s sad that Marvel let her do so.

What results is a one note and melancholic series that certainly isn’t bad but it comes across shallow and delivers nothing but a depressing walk through the lives of sick individuals. The struggle isn’t fascinating and the story arcs certainly aren’t complex or even very interesting. What’s delivered is a series that makes you feel dirty as you watch it and is very low in entertainment value. That may be an “artistic” choice but it’s not a good one when the MCU is on such a wonderful roll. This series falls so far below Daredevil that it’s not even debatable. That showrunner certainly kept things gritty but stayed true to Marvel established parameters and offered many notes and true character depth. While it may not be entirely fair to call Jessica Jones a thumbs down failure (some things work and the cast is great) it certainly loses credibility when every episode is used to practically promote a warped agenda or to beat down the viewer in some way.

I accept your surrender.

I stopped reading after you said "agenda" 

reply

Lol. "pro-homosexual lifestyle choice agenda"

Sorry man you are not smart enough to make that kind of call. Tell your pastor next time you go to church that he is not either. And also, tell him that Jesus probably had sex with a lot of men in his time, because that was how it worked back then. And when you have to raise a child by yourself on minimum wage, I'll be happy to hear your theories about abortion. Until then, shut up and read a book.

reply

It's not about "sin" and no one should make that call unless it's God.

I think it's more about the promotion of mental disorder. Instead of seeking help, the message is being sent that making this choice is beyond a person's control. THAT is ridiculous and THAT is the true harm. Anyone that can't see this has fallen prey to politically correct stupidity and that's a shame. Maybe those people need to read more and try a bit of common sense? It's clearly "nurture" over "nature" in every instance. People claiming generic predisposition are clearly misinformed.

Trying to promote "equality" even with the best of intentions is doing more harm than most could possibly realize in this case. That is fact. Learn more and re-open your mind to natural truths and not alleged good hearted drivel.

It's hot... but not as hot as the night Johnny Viti got married...

reply

Again, you are not smart enough to make that kind of call. You are not a scientist, you are a geek in his basement. Just because you don't understand something does not make it wrong. Nature wants gay animals. I don't care about your god. We are animals. Gay dogs exist. Gay cats exist. Gay rabbits exist. Gay humans exist. Deal with it. Again, inform yourself. And don't say something is a fact when you are clearly stating an opinion. That's a fact that it's extremely lame.

reply

You can't honestly speak about what it's like for a homosexual if you are not one.

The simple fact is, you don't know. You just want others to conform to your beliefs about how they should behave. But you don't know what you're talking about.

You just know about you. And by airing your ideas, you let others know too.

I feel pity for you.

All the characters were very much all flat and one dimensional. The news that this writer is now in charge of Iron Fist saddens me greatly.

Both he and the showrunner worked on Dexter so are comfortable with each other.
But honestly, this does raise some concerns in me too.
Well we will see 😃

The showrunner on Jessica Jones is the biggest reason why this series/season failed. She injected her own crazy "sensibilities" in to the source material. Why did Marvel let her do that?

The show didn't fail a lot of people apparently love it.
Was it the best thing ever? LMFAO no way
Was it the worse thing ever? No
Was it what I hope for? No
It was okay. 😃
She injected her own crazy "sensibilities" in to the source material.

Hmm... maybe
Why did Marvel let her do that?

You know that's actually not a bad question.
Daredevil is following the comic source very close and is knocking it out the park.
20/20 hindsight it may have been better to do the same with Alias.
The folks that are giving it 9 and 10 would have given just about anything even close to this the same.
But those scoring 4 through 8 really wanted to love it but couldn't.
Believe me I know. 😞

reply

The show didn't fail because all us Marvel fans watched it all the way through. Yet, a LOT of us didn't like what we saw. Most of us will still watch a season two because it's what real fans do but my expectations are as low as it gets. If it's still this bad, I'll never watch the whole thing.

I got flamed for making a similar suggestion weeks ago. LOL
I said a Froggy Nelson and Karen Paige spin off from Daredevil would have been a hit too.
But really it clear many people legitimately love this show.
It truly does has a fan base.
I like it too but feel it could have easily been much better.
I think the writer did season 1 over a coffee break.

reply

I'm curious, can you write a series over a coffee break too?

If you don't like the show, stop watching it!

reply

Yes I could.
But you may not want to watch it!
Do you rember the treatment scene from a clock work orange?😁

reply

Well done, you managed to say 'feminist agenda' without actually saying 'feminist agenda'.

Not exactly sure how you can say "failed". Season 2 has already been announced.

After seeing DD season two, it makes this effort even worse. The entire Jessica Jones series was so badly written that I honestly don't know how anyone enjoyed that thing. These DD seasons have been massively better in every way. These DD female characters have depth whereas the Jessica Jones characters were all one dimensional.

This is why I would have went with a Punisher season or even find a way to bring Peggy Carter over to Netflix. Season Two of JJ is a bad bad idea.

Only if they get the same awful writers but that appears to be the case.

reply

At least Jessica was mentioned by name in DD season two. That validates having sat through this dreek.

reply

I disagree with pretty much everything you said. Fortunately it created enough buzz and positive feedback to warrant a season 2 :)

reply

I supported this show at first but grew to be very disappointed.

Stopped reading after you criticised the show for being pro-homosexual. Perhaps shows like Jessica Jones should come with trigger warnings for delicate, pearl-clutching conservatives such as yourself.
