I enjoyed them in their day. But, things have evolved and they no longer really work in our society. At that time, if I COULD HAVE had lots of video games inside my house to play for free whenever I wanted, I would have. Got the Atari and bought carts to imitate the fun, but of course, the social aspect was not on the proper scale. You invite friends over, play some games, eat some pizza, but you don't meet any new girls inside my house.....
Which brings up the next point: procreation. ARCADES probably lead to very little procreation. Maybe some here and there, but not enough to make it a permanent SOCIAL EVENT like drinking and bars are now. Those last forever because they are an integral part of forwarding societies populous. It's the watering hole of any current society: meet your mate, procreate.
I doubt Arcades would have lasted as long as they did if kids were pairing up and making babies. Parents would shut them down so fast!
Anyway, there's still a few nostalgic based places in my area that are fantastic! Small, but have the old games, and food, and drinks. This will live on this way, like Vinyl records: niche, but fun and supported by some.
Oh, loved this movie too. And Wreck It Ralph.
