Who wanted this???

Is there seriously any devout group of Beetlejuice fans who were begging and pleading for this?

While the original film has been endlessly rerun on cable TV for decades, was it actually enough of a financial success to merit a sequel all these years later?

Have you ever met anybody who considers the original film to be one of their all-time favorites?

I just don't get this!

reply

Why do you think it's been rerun endlessly for decades?

reply

Stations need to fill up air time with existing (already paid for) content.

reply

They program with content that draws viewers. If it's still in heavy rotation for decades, it's b/c people still watch it. I say this as someone who doesn't like Burton or Keaton, and I've never watched Beetlejuice from beginning to end.

And it made 5x its production budget, ranking 10th at the box office in 1988.

reply

Because Hollywood has lost all originality and has run out of ideas.

reply

Never mind about the sequel: how did the first one get made?

Since seemingly every movie made between 1981-1998 now requires a sequel/prequel/reboot/update, I am now looking forward to Megaforce II.

GROW UP.

I'm pretty sure it was a joke Kowalski.

Fans were asking for a sequel almost as soon as it was made. Every time it runs, you saw another article about getting a sequel. I think it took a lot of effort to get Michael Keaton to agree to do it.

reply

I thought Keaton said he'd always do it as long as Burton was directing.

reply

OP seems oblivious to the merits of the original, with critical and box office success, and, as pointed out, frequent clamoring for a sequel for years. A film doesn't have to be an "all-time favorite" to produce a successful sequel. I understand that many sequels are not very good, but don't judge this too soon. The cast and director are top notch. A lot will depend on the writing, which may be hampered by the writers' strike.

reply

I haven't even seen the original movie yet. Do ghosts age thirty-five years? I thought they just stayed the same, forever. But I get it--it's not a documentary about the spirit world.

reply

Well with all the makeup for Beetlejuice it does hide some of the aging, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a line a dialogue about how his powers are waning for something and that's why he looks older.

reply

The original is a lot of fun. I don't care to see this... yet.

The original is a weird flick that stood on its own. I didn't need a sequel. But, the movie fad today is to do a reboot/sequel of an old property.

The results are usually disappointing

reply

did you know they made 2 Robocop sequels and a TV show in the 90s?

reply

THERE WERE THREE SHOWS AS WELL AS THE CARTOON.

reply

I want it! It's good to see Keaton back in the game again as Beetlejuice as well as Batman

reply

Keaton is as timeless as brunch on Sundays
