U.S. Remake is coming!!!

The Indonesian producers are apparently going to be involved, as well as the original fight choreographers but this is Hollywood.

Who do you guys think they will cast as the SWAT team members and then the villain?

I have a feeling that Hollywood might just cast someone like Collin Farrell, Vin Diesel,Channing Tatum, or Tyrese Gibson. Then they would add Cung Le and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as the villains. I would hope they would add some Hong Kong Action stars like Donnie Yen but chances of that are probably slim.

this was going to be a disaster from the moment Gareth Evans said he wasn't interested in doing it...a film like The Raid was a success because of the director and Iko Uwais without them everything that made it great will be lost ...remember Evans not only directed it he wrote the script and produced it as well

reply

Evans is producing and it's supposedly going to have the same action choreography team.

I'm not going to write it off just yet, but The Raid is more than enough to keep me going until Berandal.

reply

I hope they don't make it, but if they do

Danny Trejo or Ray Liotta for Wahyu please.
other than that they should use the original Rama, Jaka and Mad dog

Ugh I have had it with this *beep* remakes.

I don't care how many of the original crew they can get together, it simply will not be as good as the original. There is zero value in making this.

Why does this film need to be remade?

It is in it's best form at the moment with it's most suited actors. The film is up to date and the fight scenes will go down as some of the greatest martial arts scenes in film history.

Two things that cannot be replaced that will make the remake bad:

1. The fighting style and choreography. The Silat style was finally put on the map by this movie and is the core of all the major fight scenes in this film. Silat is unknown to the western world and no actor in Hollywood would be believable using it. Employing a new style in it's place for a remake will be like watching a Terminator remake in which the Terminator is is an alien, not a robot.

2. The villain Mad Dog. He cannot be replaced. His short stature combined with his vicious fighting techniques make him a one of a kind. The fact that he seems so badass and fitting of the name "Mad Dog" is because he is small but tough as nails. Without Mad Dog, The Raid would have only been half the movie it was.

If Hollywood is serious about a remake, they need to at least cast the same actor who played Mad Dog. He doesn't need to speak much or at all because he is simply a muscle head henchmen. It would be insane to watch him tear apart two bigger American actors like he did those two guys in the original. That for me, would be worth my time watching the remake.

Laaaaame, Americans can't fight like this...

reply

Right, Americans can't fightlike this, that's why they call it "Dredd"... or hasn't anyone noticed the similarities...

reply

Why the HELL does hollywood feel the goddamn need to remake EVERY single foreign movie that is good.

reply

Theo James would be right for this.
He played Richard in Underworld 4.
This guy held his own against the Lycan.

Matt Mullins, Michael Jai White, Adkins & Donnie Yen. All actors I could see in a potential remake of this brilliant flick.

reply

This will definitely be a Jason Statham movie. Scott Adkins and Michael Jai White should also be in this. Not sure Yen would be interested but it would be a good vehicle to break him in the US properly.

Im sure it would be typical to just make all of the villains muslim terrorists but I think it will end up being a mexican cartel where DEA agents raid one of their strongholds and major distribution centers on US soil.

reply

If Adkins was the lead then the movie would be good

The remake will suck, americans always steal other ideas so they can make more money, they lack inspiration. No need for a remake because this will be better. Yes, there are great actors and directors outside the USA, maybe it's hard for some to believe but it's true.

*beep* that *beep*
The US remake will probably be about ( add any US action star ) wiping out the Triads. This has been done countless times before.
The Indonesian gangsters in The Raid at least where a fresh twist. They exist in real life in large numbers and are well organized and extremely ruthless ( do some research about gang wars in Jakarta, really it's beyond *beep* up) and where untouched upon by the mainstream until now.
An action movie stands or falls with it's villains. I want the villains to be original.

Chuck Norris, he's good at Karate & eating noodles

The anti-American comments amuse me. The rest of the world eats up Hollywood remakes and CGI spectacles. Just look at Dark Shadows and Battleship. Bombed in the US, made crazy money in the 'cultured nations'. Meanwhile, City of God makes almost as much in the US as Brazil, Asian martial arts movies are popular, Pans Labrynth makes big money here, and The Artist makes a lot more in the US than France. The Raid was successful as well.

Enjoy the next Transformers and Depp movie, foreigners.
