Why did the villain have to be gay?

What was the point of making King Candy effeminate? Would he have been any less effective a villain had he been straight?

reply

I read nothing into the King's voice or mannerisms, EXCEPT, a parody of character actor Ed Wynn, who voiced the Mad Hatter in Disney's Alice in Wonderland. A actor who sounded like that even in dramatic parts (like the original TV version of Requiem of a Heavyweight).

Thank you. I was not aware of the Ed Wynn homage when I posted, but having investigated some of his work I see now that it makes total sense. I didn't know that Wynn had also done dramatic roles - I will seek them out.

Logically I know that Alan Tudyk would not take part in anything homophobic, but my post was just the result of my gut reaction. It does seem that there are an awful lot of Disney villains who are older single effeminate men, or older single women, and not many Disney villains who are macho married men, or married women.

He didn't show any attraction to any of the characters. There is nothing to show he was in fact gay. He was wacky and cooky and evil.

What gave you the idea he is gay? the Characters voice and mannerism putme in mind of Ed Wynn. If any one remembers him, acting that way was kind of his schitch.funny and eccentric. Did anything else appear to be overtly sexual to anyone?

I actually thought Felix was very effeminate. It caught me by surprise when the character embarked on a heterosexual romance.

But yeah, I'm with the other guys, all I got from King Candy was Ed Wynn. Really though, ignore the peeps on here being all high and mighty, accusing you of bigotry and all that jazz. You made an observation, no harm done.

@Op Dude who said he was effing Gay? Guess what not all gay men talk effeminately and not all effeminate men are gay. They guy who does his voice is straight, Stop being a homophobic ass hole.

He's not the only gay villain! Look at those destructive bugs from the Soldiers Duty game! They were chowing that wood like there was no tomorrow. Plus you just KNOW, because they're insects, that some of those deviants must reproduce asexually. It's sick!

They showed no sexual situations. As far as we know, Ralph is a Bear and just has no reason to mention it. He could be between boyfriends, you know.

People. Some of you would blow up if you had nothing to whine about.
