A stupid guy who tries to bed every woman whom he encounters. Who is also a greedy liar, ready to do anything to get money. In the end he's not changed - tries to bed the third sister (who of course is very happy about that). And he's supposedly the hero whom the watchers (i.e. mostly children) are supposed to praise and learn from? What is the message that this movie is sending? For boys: do whatever you want, cheat etc., you're a hero if you believe in it and everyone will love you. For girls: wait patiently for your hero, and even if he's a cheater (in all meanings of this word) love him nevertheless because he's a great guy.
Can you imagine a movie where a man (let's call him Theodorus) just after one day of knowing a woman cries about a broken heart, goes mad and completely destroys his own life?
I understand that this is a century old story, but please Disney, let it remain in it's grave of history, the only place where it belongs.
Even tho the movie is deeply flawed, it is far and I mean FAAAAAAAR from being the worst movie ever. The intro is very imaginative, I personally loved it.
I don't think it is as horrible as many people believe and surely don't think it is the worst movie ever, that's in my personal opinion ''Shoot 'Em Up''.
Of course it's your personal opinion - posts ARE opinions. I hate the stupid film, and considering the budget and studio, yes, it is one of the worst films ever made.
It is CLOOOOOSE to being the worst film. Heck, it is arguably one of the worst crap of 2013. The few ratings I gave it were because of the China Town idea (and who can hate that adorable girl?) and of course, the gorgeous scenery but we all know that is not all a movie should be about. It was so stupid that I couldn't stop laughing AT the movie while watching it, OMG!
And do not even get me started on the "most beautiful witch of the land" that I kept hearing every 10 minutes. Are you kidding me? The two sisters were way hotter. Being blonde does not automatically make someone hot and if it was so important that the good witch be the most beautiful witch, they shouldn't have cast Weisz and Kunis beside her.... or Williams beside them. Just saying.
I disagree. I think Michelle Williams is stunning in this movie. I could not stop looking at her when she was on screen. I don't even find her all that attractive most of the time, but she is so beautiful in this film. Mila is hot and Weisz is very hot too, but for whatever reason I would take Michelle Williams in this film over both of them.
When the hero becomes the villain....who becames the hero?
And do not even get me started on the "most beautiful witch of the land" that I kept hearing every 10 minutes. Are you kidding me? The two sisters were way hotter. Being blonde does not automatically make someone hot and if it was so important that the good witch be the most beautiful witch, they shouldn't have cast Weisz and Kunis beside her.... or Williams beside them. Just saying.
Completely disagree. I find Williams to be far more attractive than Kunis. It's all about class and grace and Kunis has none of either.
Sad that so many immature children such as yourself think that because you dislike something, that means that thing is awful or bad. You're just not smart enough to separate quality with subjectivity.
If this is a reply to me…this is a thread on IMDb. In your world, nobody expresses opinions? And, expressing an opinion, makes one a child, or stupid? But, yes, the film is awful, and has already been determined as such, by the vast majority. It will be forgotten. It made back its budget, but that's excluding marketing, which doubles the cost.
This is laughable. No, the film is not awful. That is just your opinion. The vast majority liked or loved it, or at least thought it was decent. That includes critics. To say the vast majority thought it was awful is absolutely 100% false. Just say you don't like it and move on. Don't spew garbage by acting as if your opinion is fact and the whole world agrees with you.
It will be forgotten by you. Those of us who liked it will continue to like it. Again, stop trying to justify your opinion by spewing fallacies about how the whole planet agrees with you. And the merchandising alone helped it make its marketing budget back. A sequel has already been commissioned.
Your entire logic is contradicted by the scores on this site, yahoo movies, twitter, etc. At worst, you could say the general consensus is that it's an above average film. To say that the vast majority agrees that it's an awful film is you spreading lies.
In order for someone to say that a movie has been deemed "awful" by the vast majority, a movie has to have a RT score of less then 50%, and it's IMDB score has to be below 4. And on twitter the general consensus has to be that the movie is terrible. None of that applies to this movie. A movie it does apply to is Winter's Tale. That's an example of a movie that the majority has deemed as awful.
You said that the vast majority says that the movie is awful. That is not an opinion, kid. That is you saying something as if it's a fact. If you had said YOU think the movie is awful, that would be an opinion. Saying the vast majority think the movie is awful is a lie. Period. How old are you?
I am getting great joy from all of this attention. It's REALLY good to know I'm bugging you. (Yes, the vast majority think the film is simply terrible, my opinion aside.)
You have obviously lost your grip on reality. No, the vast majority do no think the film is "simply terrible." As the other poster said, actual numbers contradict that. Give me proof that the vast majority think the film is terrible. Show me the scores. Show me the rotten tomatoes rating. The vast majority thought it was middle of the pack. You are in the scares minority if you thought it was awful. Your refusal to accept that proves you're a troll.
It's normal for people to talk about movies they like. It's a sign of wanting attention to troll on the board of a movie you hate and think is awful. My theater loved the film and clapped at the end. I guess you're one of those contrarians without any friends who hates everything that's popular. Hipster is the word for it.
at the way you keep turning red in the face and begging everyone to agree with you. This is a logical fallacy, trying to justify your own unpopular opinion by using the strawman excuse of "everyone agrees with me" when the truth couldn't be further from that.
Still waiting on numbers that show that the vast majority thought it was awful.
Now in addition to rotten tomatoes and twitter and IMdb, I just checked the amazon.com ratings. 3 and a half stars, which indicates a solid, middle of the road movie, and it has over 712 5 star reviews.
Keep trying, kid. I give your trolling a solid 4/10 for effort.
My, my. I HAVE gotten your goat. The film will be forgotten. It is inept in just about every way. (Franco is laughable, the CGI is cartoonish, the script is ridiculous, etc.)
Remember, sweets, YOU contacted me. But I'm enjoying your proclamations of trolldom…as you troll.
I don't understand how you can say that the vast majority of people thought it was awful. Every site I trust for reviews that I've gone on, including imdb, has more positive reviews than negative ones. 59% positive from critics is more than half, as well.
Sorry you didn't like it. I and my entire family enjoyed it. I hope we get to see Princess Ozma in the sequel.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
Because, on the average, people will go to a web site and writes positive reviews, not negative. Those (the majority) who disliked the film, don't give a @#*$ enough to write or rate it. Plus, most people are not on IMDb, as we are. I work in the industry - have for thirty years - so I have a reason to be. I would say by your misplaced fervor, that you were somehow involved with this film, but by your dialogue, I can tell that's not the case. Old maid aunts should stick to chatting on Topix or Facebook.
You keep responding! Thanks for acknowledging my power and wisdom.
That's actually very incorrect. The vocal minority is called that because negative people like to go on boards like this and blast a movie. The people who liked a movie tend to not need any forum to discuss their love for a film.
Misplaced fervor? So you're saying I'm not allowed to like a movie and that you have virtually nothing to back up your point that most people thought the film was awful. You said the same thing about critics, and yet the official site for keeping track of critic scores shows that you're wrong as more than 50% liked the film. And even some of the negative reviews say the film was solid, not awful at all.
Old maids and aunts? Excuse me? Why show such disrespect? I am trying to engage you in a polite conversation, and all you do is insult and deny facts. I'm thinking the other guys are right when they say you're a troll.
Power and wisdom? You're showing ignorance and immaturity.
Please link me to your imdb page if you're a member of the industry. I'll wait.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
You are stalking me, at this point, crazy person. I find it hilarious. On what planet do live? Yes, I'm going to give a crazy person my name. Right. I will assume that you are a homebound, sad person, who randomly approaches people with arguments. In ten years, mention "Oz, The Great…" to ANYONE, and they will give you a blank stare.
Stalking you? I asked a question. You didn't have an answer, and then you threw in an insult for no apparent reason. I even politely asked you to give a link to your imdb page to prove you work in the industry, and you just insulted me again.
It's becoming quite evident that you suffer from some sort of chemical imbalance and are just out to rage against your fellow man.
If you didn't like the movie, that's your problem. Most of us liked it, and the sales of the DVD and merchandise were large enough to merit a sequel to Baum's legendary works. I suppose you'll be watching that as well just to complain about it later. Oh well. At least most of us liked it. Can't do anything about the people who walked in expecting something else.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
You're proving yourself to be quite unbalanced. Apparently you see invisible people who aren't there popping up and agreeing with you about a movie most of the world enjoyed. Very distressing for your family, I'm sure. Seek help ASAP.
Goodnight.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
The world thought it was good or decent. The world did not think it was awful as even the negative reviews from respected sources say it was okay. No one other than you and a few other IMDb users think it was awful, and you have yet to provide so much a tiny shred of evidence to indicate otherwise.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
I started out being very respectful to you and asking you to prove to me that the vast majority liked thought the movie was awful. I was willing to see your side of things if you had even a little proof. You didn't, and now you're becoming ultra-defensive about it. Why continue to dig yourself into a deeper hole.
It's been established that you have no proof to back up your claims. Let it go and stop responding.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
Don't bother. I reported this troll about half an hour ago. Just read what he said. People bring up how the trusted sources prove that the vast majority liked the movie, he says all social media is wrong. His claim is that every man and woman and child who doesn't use social media hated this movie. He sounds completely psychotic.
Thank you for proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're a troll, and a delusional one at that. Most people who come to vent on sites do so to be negative. Twitter is far more objective and most people on there who talked about the movie said they liked it. That plus actual polls and scores show that most liked the film. You fail and again, student.
Because, on the average, people will go to a web site and writes positive reviews, not negative. Those (the majority) who disliked the film, don't give a @#*$ enough to write or rate it. Plus, most people are not on IMDb
So social media sites and critics don't back up your argument at all, so your next jump is to say that you think the vast majority thought the film was awful based on.... based on what? LMAO. You expect us to believe that you interviewed millions of people who don't use IMDb or twitter personally about this movie.
My lord, your entire presence on this board is one big epic fail.
Apparently not such a fail, since you are insistent on continuing this conversation, and obviously care what I think. I am flattered!
There must be a fan club for the film. Join it! I am sure that your bizarre attraction to it will be appreciated by other members. You can all make Oz cookies, and exchange them! May dress up as your favorite CGI character!
And you keep responding to me without a shred of evidence to show that most people disliked the film. The ground is sinking under your feet, student.
Empire, the absolute top magazine about movies gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars. That speaks volumes. And the people on Amazon of all ages who don't use other social media sites are all praising the hell out of it. Heck, even Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith of ESPN praised the movie on their first take morning show- and they rarely talk about movies, so that just goes to show much they enjoyed the movie.
Your existence is a sad one. Ignore list time, troll.
PS: It must really stick in your craw that the movie is getting a sequel. Feel free to camp out in protest. LMAO.
Still waiting on some proof of the existence of this "vast majority" who hated the film. I pity you. I truly do. Just admit you're in the minority and move on. That doesn't make your negative opinion any less valid.
Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight- The one and only Jack Nicholson- Batman
He's not a stalker. Get over yourself. He, like the rest of us, are calling you out on your bulls--t. You have yet to back up your claims. Why? Because you can't. All you can do is call people names and stomp your feet.
Because, on the average, people will go to a web site and writes positive reviews, not negative. Those (the majority) who disliked the film, don't give a @#*$ enough to write or rate it. Plus, most people are not on IMDb, as we are.
So those average people who aren't on here and make up the VAST MAJORITY, how exactly do you know that they all loathe this movie the way you do? Have you been traveling the world and going door to door to ask each and every person who saw this movie and isn't on IMDb what he or she thought of the film? If they're not on social media, how can you possibly know what they think? Your line of logic is completely asinine.
Propositional fallacies
A propositional fallacy is an error in logic that concerns compound propositions. For a compound proposition to be true, the truth values of its constituent parts must satisfy the relevant logical connectives which occur in it reply share
I'm not a troll at all. I'm asking you provide proof that shows that most people think the film is awful. You have no response, so now you're just dragging the conversation along by spamming me with the same "I love attention" diatribe over and over again. Trolls don't provide facts. You're the troll because you don't have an argument to back up your point and are now just insulting the movie for fun.
But, yes, the film is awful, and has already been determined as such, by the vast majority.
I don't know what Planet you live on, but here on Earth, the vast majority had determined that this movie is pretty good. Solid. You must be talking about the imaginary friends in your head if you think the vast majority has determined it's awful. By saying stuff like that, you are indeed making yourself come across as a troll. The actual number scores from fans and critics show that the vast majority consider it to be far from awful. Most people might not love it, but to say the vast majority thinks it's awful is a falsehood that borders on trolling.
You seem to be a bit disturbed. Sorry for you. I love how the useless word "troll" is bandied about by the crazy folks. And, yes dear, the vast majority of viewers and critics have not liked the film.
You are an absolute idiot. Look up the numbers on actual sites. More then 50% of critics gave the movie a positive score. The imdb rating on here is solid. The worst thing you can say about the rating is that it proves the movie is mediocre. Where are you getting your information? Saying that the vast majority of viewers have not liked the film is contradicted by actual facts: numbers, polls, etc.
I'm disturbed for pointing out that you're a blithering idiot? Get a clue.
Yup. As I thought. You're a troll. Classic markings of a troll. No response to actual facts I provided. No evidence provided on your part to show how the vast majority think the movie is terrible.
Let me ask you this, why troll like this? What does it accomplish? Did your parents not hug you enough?
Worst ever? What are you, like 10 years old? It's not what it could have been, but far from the worst ever. In fact, since we weren't expecting much, my wife and I actually enjoyed watching it on a Sat. morning recently. I've sat through a lot worse.
I just watched it and I hated it. The only reason I gave this a 2 star rating is because of the graphics and the colors were beautiful but the story and the characters were dumb.
a 2? A FRICKEN 2? You should rate the film comparing to the other films on IMDB. for example Justin Bieber: Never say Never- 1.7 Epic Movie- 2.3 The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek, Part II- 2.0 You are saying Oz the Great and Powerful is as bad as these films, which have no redeemable features at all. For a film which looks as good as Oz, it should automatically get a 5 or 6 (which means he film is still bad, but not disastrous) the only two films I have rated a 1 is, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams they are truly horrible, torturous films
LOL..And people who starts threads titled "worst movie ever" should also get their IMDB account banned and also serve a 1 year sentence in a medium security jail. No parole or early leave due to good behavior either. I can live with a thread titled "one of the worst movies ever" but a movie with a $200 million dollar can not be the "worst movie ever" and if it was everyone who had anything to do with that film should be stoned like the good old days.
The fan reaction overall is very positive. I hope this thread is a joke. It's a solid film. Not even close to be one of the worst films ever made or even one of the worst films of the year.
And it seems the Op didn't pay close attention to the film. Glinda is NOT the sister of Theodora and Evanora. And the message of the movie is that he changes and becomes a good person. He realizes he has goodness inside of him.
If you think this is the worst film of all time. Then Frankly you haven't watched enough movies. Frankly people who talk about "The Worst movie ever" for a movie like this.. Don't really know what a real bad movie is.
It isn't the worst film ever, actually I quite enjoyed it. It's the best and it's not the worst, but it's one of the best Disney movies I have seen since The Little Mermaid.
Did it live up to the original? No .... Nothing ever will.
Was it the worst thing I've ever seen? No. I found 'The Hobbit' to be much worse than this. I couldn't even make myself finish that movie.
I thought the acting done was done well, as the characters are so young and volatile. I actually think the acting was intentional, to help push that point along. We are not going to see the characters we see in 'Wizard of Oz', because they have been through more, and have grown many years from the time in 'OtGaP'.
Overall, I liked it, and am happy to have it part of the 'Oz' DVD collection.
Not worst movie of all times, but that it takes the prize for worst movie of the year, budget-wise is likely. Clichés really piled up in this movie, i counted to about ten before i stopped caring, just throw 'em all in there!
What was up with the clothing of Mila Kunis? It looked like a cross between 50s and leather - who came up with that? It reminded me of a kinder garden play where the kids choose their own clothes "just because this is nice, that is cool".
I felt it was going to be a bad movie when there were too much special effects and colours in the beginning, overcompensation for lack of script it seemed like. Not much more to say, since i have already mentioned the things i found most irritating. I wish they could have just given the budget of this film to something useful, like cancer-research instead. Ridiculous.
