This movie is TERRIBLE.

I saw this tonight with four friends. There were 7 people total in the theater.

This movie is TERRIBLE. Terrible to the point that it's funny, but still terrible. The dialogue seems like it was written by a ten year old. The action is pretty good, except for the final battle.

The comedy and "one liners" are just bad. It's nearly on the same level as Collateral Damage.

It will probably be a cult classic because of how bad it is (ala Punisher: War Zone). I think people are giving it a free pass because it's Arnold. Anyone else makes this movie, it would be getting skewered right now. I'm excited he's back on the big screen too, but I swear, sometimes people have blinders on.

Wow, I came here to express the exact same sentiment except that I was going to say "written by a 12-year-old". I'm glad it's not just me, then.

reply

Dialogue by a 10 year old, yep that about sums it up. How do writers like this get through the vetting process in hollywood anymore? Are they all 14 year old boys with ADHD?

It's very disappointing for the first 20 minutes. Then it just gets worse from there.

reply

I loved it... had a great time watching it with some friends while super high! ROck and roll!!

if they change the director's name to James Cameron the movie will make $500M in the US Box Office, and 7.5 on IMDB at the least, such is the case of True Lies.

it's not that i don't like True Lies it's a good film great time waster a few laughs and a few great action scenes but isn't the same thing in The Last Stand, i think Jee Woon Kim is one of the most taleted directors in the world it's just that hollywood never let's a foreingn guy do his freaking job.

this thread is assuming and terrible

you needed to go into it realizing that it was supposed to be an action flick reminiscent of 80s/90s action genre with one-liners, over the top man to man and gun fights and a cheesy bad guy that you can't wait to see get what he/she deserves

this is the best movie featuring Arnold (not ensemble cast, ie Expendables) since True Lies IMO

No free pass, just a realization that you can actually enjoy it the way it was intended to be enjoyed - not seriously and for what it is - a popcorn action flick, and that it was

No one has "blinders on" - you just assume people choose the exact opposing view of yours - purely negative for the sake of being negative

One does not simply keep clear of the moors . . .

Awesome now I am dimwit too! Pretty soon the list of my credentials will be longer than the actual post limit.

This movie is pure fun. is it perfect? no. But it's a fun ride and I would put among Arnold's best.

For the record I am now a Dimwitted, easily amused, brain dead sheep with horrible taste in movies.

This was a great movie. I just saw it via a redbox rental. Typical Arnold vehicle. Formulaic, so what? I LIKED IT!!! Gee, but Arnold is looking old, and since he's younger than me, err, I don't like that! Oh well. Fun movie, surprising. Worth the price of admission, even if it had been 10x's a buck twenty.

reply

It isn't even bad enough that the dialog and the story itself are horrible but the special effects are so fake looking that it just kind of turned me off from having any ability to get into this movie as even just a shallow action movie. Just poorly done at every level.

reply

I agree
One of the worst movies I have ever seen

Truly pathetic. I felt bad for Arnold, he looked like fool in so many scenes.

reply

Gotta agree with the OP, sort of. While not terrible, this movie certainly wasn't any good - even by Arnold-standards.

Which kinda makes me wonder why Arnold chose such a project for his comeback.

The thing is that (IMO) it's not impossible for aging action stars to reclaim their former glory - if they choose the right kind of project that is. Rambo 4 worked perfectly for me. It stayed true to the character, it had great villains, it took itself rather seriously, it didn't use its over the top violence for comedic effect and it didn't constantly make a point of the main character's/star's age.

By contrast, "The Last Stand's" premise was paper thin and terribly clicheed, it developed neither its villains nor its hero properly, it couldn't decide whether it wants to be a serious action flick or an action-comedy and it had Arnold making stupid remarks about how old he is all the time. Yeah, we get it: Arnold's old. So what?

Bingo! We don't need to see Old Man Schwarzenegger, we want the Unstoppable Arnold of "Eraser" & "Commando"

So your suggesting that Arnold stop making Any Action Movies. I hate to break to you but the man isn't 30 or 40 anymore.

While that's a valid *opinion*, it wasn't exactly my point.

People get old, even the Arnolds of this world. Everyone knows, so there really is no point in making a big deal out of it or constantly trying to use this fact to wink at the audience.

I'd rather have guys like Arnold do "unapologetic" action-movies. No need for the "Ha-ha.. I'm old now audience, but I'm still gonna mow down dozens of baddies ... oh, and BTW: I'm old"-shtick.

Granted: He couldn't do a John Matrix or Dutch type of role these days. But OTOH, Clint Eastwood couldn't have (or at least shouldn't have) done another Dirty Harry flick in the early 90s. And yet: He was still badass in Unforgiven, a movie he actually *postponed* when he first got the script, because he felt he wasn't quite old enough for the role yet.

That's why I do hope that they'll actually go ahead with the "Legend of Conan"-project. That thing could be awesome if they use Arnold's age to good effect, use the original Conan's tone/style/level of violence as a template and avoid the campyness-crap from Conan the Destroyer.
