Parents bringing their kids

When I went to see this movie, all of a sudden a couple comes in with a kid who couldn't have been more than eight years old! I am really curious as to what justifies parents bringing their eight year old to an R- rated movie, filled with violence like this one was...

There was lots of gore and f bombs in this movie - at least on the blu ray.
If this is the same release as in the cinema, then it is wrong that a kid should be watching it.

I'm assuming the movie was based at teenagers because of the gratuitous swearing and gore and lack of an involving storyline (I think I'm making it sound better than it was).

I turned it off after an hour - I couldn't take any more...borrring.

Probably worse instance I saw of this was a couple who brought 2 young kids to see Full Metal Jacket and then laughed at about every scene where R. Lee Ermey had dialog. Just because you can procreate doesn't mean you should.

Violence , the F word & nudity ! all 8 yo should see it NOT how did the kids even get in " retarded parents " !!!

My parents took me to see whatever I wanted to see, they let me listen to whatever I wanted to listen to, and read whatever I wanted. I am a well balanced adult now with a great job and a great family. I do not censor what my children want to watch, listen to, and read. The problem lies with all of you who want to censor the world to your children. The parental thing to do is to explain things to your children. But hey, if you want to censor your children whats the worst thing that could happen...?

I was 4 or 5 when I saw The Exorcist & had to hide every time I saw the possessed Regan, & even though they're both pretty goofy now, I remember watching Return of the Living Dead & Re-Animator when I was in elementary school. I remember covering my head during the scene where they had the half skeleton body strapped to the table in Return of the Living Dead, & running out of the room when he was talking to the re-animated severed head in Re-Animator. I found all of those movies incredibly scary & had nightmares for a while. I recall watching a few of the Faces of Death videos back in the day, alone, & I was totally freaked out (I thought they were real back then).

I watched Terminator & Aliens when I was a little kid & thought they were pretty cool. My perception of things might have been slightly altered, but I don't think those viewing experiences damaged me in any way. I wouldn't let my 7-year-old son watch any of them, or horror movies in general, or this movie, until he's older, though. We've read some of the old fables, but I find them generally too messed up.

I have no problem with some violence & language as long as it's not graphic or obscene. Just a couple of examples, I took him to see The Avengers & we watched Clash of the Titans on Blu-Ray 'cause he's into mythology (had to fast-forward some parts). However, I would not let him watch something like The Dark Knight even though it's one of my favorite superhero movies & he loves Batman, 'cause I think too much of it is twisted & disturbing, probably too much for him to handle. I wouldn't let him watch something like Immortals even though he's read about & researched Theseus 'cause, well, it has nothing to do with Greek mythology, & it's too graphic.

Yes, it's the parents' choice. I didn't agree with there being several families with small children in the theater when I saw Dark Knight Rises at a late-night screening, for example, (why this movie & why aren't those kids in bed was what I thought), but oh, well. As long as they're quiet, it's up to the parents to determine what they want to expose their children to. I think having parents involved & creating a good environment for kids at home is the key. What I find extremely peculiar is that sex & nudity is so frowned upon here. We can expose our kids to death, violence, obscene language, etc., but oh, no. Not sex & nudity, 2 of the most natural things in the world. & I'm not talking about porn or gratuitousness.

To the extent that there were movies kinda like this when I was eight, I watched them all the time. My folks let me watch (and read, and listen to, etc.) whatever I was interested in.

More to the point, how were they allowed in?
