Martin Scorsese still seemed pretty happy though. I bet just having been able to make this film with this cast was more than enough reward for him.

He probably got over Oscar years ago. After he made Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, et al., and got bubkis. I'm sure he puts far more stock in the art itself than in a little golden statue of a well-armed nude fellow.
