I know there are people on here that are hellbent on destroying this movie, but I would like an honest opinion. Is this movie as bad as the IMDb ratings suggest or it at least halfway as decent as the RTs reviews suggest? I would like to know if it is theater quality or if I should just wait to rent.
8/10 really? So you think this is worthy of a rating HIGHER than the original? Are you sure you're not rating the first one instead of this monstrosity released this weekend? Sony couldn't pay me enough enough money to rate this above 4...
You will only get an honest opinion from the critics - don't ask people on here 50% of them have rated it 1/10 ( 90% won't have seen it ) , if you have some spare cash just go and see it for yourself....
It's pretty good. There are a few true laugh out loud lines/moments, overall the actors do very well for themselves (including the refreshing inclusion of Hemsworth's character), and it's a fairly good Ghostbusters flick. The movie does a great job of bringing the characters and their stories together, however the overall "busting" plot is rather standard and could have done with some elaboration both in terms of plot development and general creepiness. One thing the original definitely holds over this one is the classic 1980s production design. Nothing beats those scenes with Sigourney being possessed and that smoke 80s smoke effect. It's definitely worth a watch, especially if you someone who sees all the other mainstream crap that comes out anyway.
Well if you take the original way too seriously or think there is a vast feminist conspiracy to enslave men by occasionally putting female leads in comedy movies, there's no reason to see it. If you don't have a stick lodged up your bum, though, it's definitely worth seeing. I came to laugh, and I did.
I just went to see this tonight. I went with a friend; I have seen and am a fan of the original movies, she has never seen them. We both loved the movie. In fact, there were very few moments where the entire (packed) theatre wasn't laughing. It was very funny and very entertaining.
That being said, there is a little bit of a different vibe to this than the originals, which is to be expected. It's a different cast, in a different time. Times have changed over the years, and that's reflected in movies. People complain because it's not the same, but if they had made a movie like the originals, they would say that the movie feels dated.
The chemistry between the main characters was perfect. They played off each other very well.
Independence Day could have learned much from this movie. This is the way to re-do a movie. There were enough moments to make you feel nostalgic but enough original content to make it still feel fresh.
Overall I feel this is one of the better movies of the summer. In a year full of underwhelming films, it was nice to watch one that surpassed my expectations.
Loved it, really good film, really funny. When I was a kid I and my sister togeter could quote the entire move end to end. Our parents brought us on very boring car trips.
Wife also loved it, and she was so into the original Ghostbusters she had a crush on the cartoon Bill Murray as a kid.
Full theater, everyone laughing at every line. Relentlessly, laughing. In fact, I missed 3-4 laugh lines everyone else got so I was not the most entertained in the theater. Everyone stayed for the entire credits sequence to make sure they got all of it.
There's no way this is a 4.7 in reality.
A review (http://www.schlockmercenary.com/blog/ghostbusters/) made a good point that the original was rather more like one of those SNL spinoffs, built as a series of comedic skits strung together. It's great but the 2016 version is a single story, and I think it worked very well. Villain worked well to focus it, and was revealed at the proper pace. Helmsworth is awesomely played against type, and they put his manliness to good use later on. I can go on and on, but won't bother.
Reviews are written by humans, they are naturally biased as they are going to based around their own personal tastes, opinions and experiences. I never understood how the word honest could even apply to a film, because unless you are of a similar mindset of the reviewer, it's unlikely you'll have the same opinion.
The only way to get a honest opinion of the film is to see it yourself.
People were expecting something on a scale of Fantastic Four but I wouldn't say it's that bad, it is pretty poor though. It's not all that funny, the cast was ok but moments where they actually manage to score a laugh (mostly by doing slapstick, sassy black chick, crazy white lady, awkward weirdo shtick) are few and far between. Even the action sequences are just poorly constructed and can't even be taken as seriously as the 1984 film, which hardly was serious too but at least it seemed to not dumb it down. Here a ghost gets shot in his nonexistent dick. Wait for dvd if you need to see it at all.
