Movies With no Romantic Angle... No Sex

At some point someone decided that no movie can succeed without a romantic angle. And all songs must be about love.

It is now just taken as gospel. Personally, I feel that movies would do better exploring other types of love including parent/child - a little here - and sibling love etc.

But kudo's here, I can't even think of another movie in recent memory without a romantic angle.

i completely agree. It esp pisses me off when they force a love story into a fantasy movie like Transformers or X-men or any of Marvels characters when the whole premise of the story/character has no romantic plot remotely in its range.

I liked this movie for what it was. The story and image it tries to present get thru to the audience and that rarely happens. It makes it known what it was aiming at and it succeeded in being true to itself without reaching for extra angles/interests.I like that alot. As much as i despise baseball (i dont even consider it a sport), i thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Moneyball- 8/10

That was quite refreshing, indeed.

I was just waiting for a girlfriend to show up and perhaps a messy relationship between her and his daughter to ensue. But, alas (and thankfully), neither happened [edit: verb agreement correction].

Also, the lack of a quirky-song- or major-hit-song-filled, even worse, soundtrack was nice (actually the soundscape was sparing, a good thing, imo).

Actually, the film had the feel of an indie, without most of the silly indie self-consciousness.

I'm so glad they didn't have a romantic angle and no sex scenes. Sometimes they are unnecessary in movies and this movie was great to the point it never needed a sex scene. More movies need to be more like Moneyball.

If you are still conscious, it is because Jack Bauer doesn’t want to carry you.

reply

The reason that there was no sex scenes or love interests had nothing to do with wanting to avoid the cliche movie story lines, but had everything to do with the fact that they didn't want the audience to fixate on Billy's homosexuality. Basically, they didn't want this to be the "gay baseball movie."

Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

reply

Not all films need a romance. Sometimes it's just not necessary and adds nothing to the film.

Quite insulting to think that Hollywood execs dont think women are able to connect to a movie that lacks a cheesy shoe-horned in love side plot.

reply

I respect "Moneyball" more because it did not rely on a romantic angle (other than the love for baseball). Another excellent film that could easily have added love and sex, but, to its credit didn't, is "A Few Good Men."

reply

There was a deleted scene in A Few Good Men where Demi Moore slept with the Tom Cruise character.

There is a romantic angle. The game. He loves it.

They edited out the passionate love scene between the guy from Troy and the fat kid. It was very steamy.
