Scarier than [REC]?

Just wondering if anyone has seen any movies scarier than REC. I loved this film and thought it was one of the best horror movies I've ever seen, especially one of the scariest. Anyone have any recommendations for other equally terrifying films?

reply

Plenty. [rec] honestly didn't scare me much. The only part that really scared me was the last five minutes or so, and even that I've seen much scarier. Jacob's Ladder is pretty terrifying, I would recommend giving that a watch. Also, A Tale of Two Sisters freaked me out.

reply

Yeah the first half of Insidious was pretty creepy.

Try "End of the Line"...

You people are a bad influence! I'm positively busting to watch [REC] Now, About to start it, will let you know what i think :) Love a good horror, so rare to find.

They mostly come at night... Mostly.

Watch the movie "Tale of Two Sisters" in my opinion its the scariest movie i've seen and i've seen alot.

The final scene in the attic reminded me a lot of the dread i felt watching "Seven". If anyone has seen that you may know what I'm talking about.

While I enjoyed [rec] I don't think i'd call it the scariest film i've ever seen. That being said it certainly was the most effective horror film that's come out in recent memory.

Someone else mentioned the Exorcist earlier in the thread. I've never really understood why that's considered so frightening, but I get that different things scare different people.

As far as films go that actually disturbed me I would have to say:

- Hellraiser
- Event Horizon
- Seven
- Suspiria
- Cannibal Holocaust (the original "found footage" movie)

reply

Insidious. Not the scariest film overall, but some of the scariest scenes.

it depends on what you find scary - I personally felt it drifted into "monster movie" at the end - a good film but nothing original

for overall creepiness most Asian horror knocks seven shades of *beep* out of this - it lacked in creepiness - Ju On The Grudge,Kairo and Silk

for jumpscares too - Shutter and Coming Soon

for overall effectiveness and possibly the best traditional horror movie for a long time watch - Insidious

Rec was good but not that good

If you haven't seen the Blair Which Project go check it out!
The Descent, The Thing and The Mist are also very creepy.

I thought REC was such a lame movie throughout the first 90% portion of the film. The ending was good but it's hard to recommend this movie just for the ending. Especially since this film was made post Blair Witch, it just seems like the whole ending was a complete copy of the idea of The Blair Witch, or reminiscent of Paranormal Activity.

I saw this movie by myself alone in my apartment hoping I can get a good thrill but sorry to say this film was a disappointment.

I would say I had a good scare with Event Horizon (but that was more than a decade ago). I thought Paranormal Activity was pretty chilling. And The Grudge on the big screen was such a good rush.

I hate when people mention Insidious, that was such pathetic attempt of horror.

I am mentioning these films in terms of suspense and "jumping" scenes. Not in terms of shock value otherwise I would have mentioned movies such as Audition.

Let me know if you guys agree with me or disagree, comments etc.
