What is there to like about this movie?

Let me begin by saying I have a right to my opinion just as much as you, so please save the "you must have just not understood it" and "why don't you go watch ____" comments.

I don't understand why this movie has such a high rating (85% on Rotten Tomatoes) and gets so much praise on these boards. Maybe I'm missing something but I just don't see the appeal.

The only good thing I can say about this film is that the cinematography is pretty good and the music was well-done. Literally everything else this movie had to offer fell flat.

The acting performances ranged from comically bad to completely phoned-in. The plot seemed like four unrelated stories crudely slapped together by having the Sam character appear in the background of each. The pacing was terrible, even considering the runtime is only 80-something minutes. There wasn't even that much violence or gore, and at times I was left wondering if I was actually watching an R-rated horror movie. What parts were scary? The only thing frightening about this film is how many tired cliches and predictable tropes are jammed into it.

If you are a fan of this movie, please explain why you like it without insulting me just because I have a different opinion.

Nothing. It's not a good movie.

So true.

You must have just not understood it. Why don't you go watch Creepshow 3?

I love the halloween theme and look... as much as we love horror films around halloween many of them don't capture the holiday nor the season as well as they could - this one most certainly does.

It's a fun horror for me, not scary. I do find the final scene with little dude crawling around on the ceiling to be pretty scary, but overall the film isn't very scary... I thought all the halloween poisoning stuff to be distrurbing, just like it should be... amazing how people on this thread are offended by it here when many examples left and right of kids dying and teen being wacked left and right... but for god sakes don't poison the candy..geeesh...

I like the anthology format, and find that no particular segment is really weak.. I think overall the film is good, and appropriately scored 6.8... i gave it a soft 7/10... 67/100... I'm right with imdb on it... 85RT is a little high though...

again... really tackled the "halloween holiday" theme.

This is one of the worst "horror" movies I have ever seen. It seemed like it was trying to be funny but it even failed at that. It was disgusting more than anything else.

This movie was super disappointing. The Halloween aura was really the only redeeming quality. I don't understand how it can be so highly rated.

Everyone is allowed to dislike a fĂșcking movie! Grow up. Just because you liked the film doesn't mean everyone has to.

Hello? Janet??? Breastesses?!?!?

I've always thought this was a fun little Halloween movie. It's just a little different. Here's an opinion piece from RT that might help explain it. It took me a long time to finally watch this, and I wasn't disappointed.

A lot of people here that don't like the film simply don't seem to understand what an anthology is or just don't like anthologies. Just because you don't like a sub-genre it doesn't mean the movie is terrible or sucks. Most people hating in this thread give no real reasons other than it's not scary (which no horror movies really are) and the acting is bad without a single example. Yes, the humour IS intentional, just like the comics it's inspired by. Rushed?? Oh please, nothing about this feels rushed. All the stories connect together probably more than any anthology ever made (or at least that I've seen). I felt this was a love letter to horror and anthology fans everywhere, and unlike many anthologies none of the stories felt significantly weaker than the others. Cliched?? Once again, no examples. I can't say I've seen a story quite like an of the four main ones here so I'm not sure where that's coming from. People love this because there's really nothing like it. Can anybody name any halloween based horror anthologies that came out before this?? I can't.

Very well said. This movie has a great creepy, horror, comic, comedy vibe that a lot of other films strive for and miss the mark entirely. People who don't like this film probably lock their doors and turn out the lights on Halloween.

No I get the whole anthology genre. You don't have to be a nuclear physicist to understand it. This movie simply fell short. I love Halloween movies and I feel like this film captured the essence of Halloween, but underachieved in many other aspects where it could have done well to make this a Halloween staple.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this film drips Halloween like literally no other film - even 1978's Halloween, which was actually shot in the spring.

Sam is a great horror icon as the spirit of Halloween.

Just a superbly entertaining flick.
