I don't understand all the hate. I thought it was a great story with great characters and great animation. I used to work at my local Disney store, and I used to hear all the time how this movie "wasn't Disney" and that Tiana was dull and boring.
Perhaps it's just me, but I never got the impression that this film was actually hated, just forgotten. Sure it has it's haters, but I don't think it's universally hated. I remember that (at least on Imdb) it was actually quite liked, just the majority never stated that the movie was Disney at it's finest. People seemed to like "Tangled" more because it was more epic, more classical Disney than "Princess and the Frog" was. "Tangled" was the right film on the right time, which you unfortunately can't say about "TPATF".
IMO, the reasons why this film did not take off like it should are: The Princess was a frog for most of the movie. Little girls strongly identify with the "Princess" characters in this movie. If the Princess is a frog, then it loses it for a lot of little girls. 2) the songs seemed short and not well developed like Beauty and the Beast and Frozen. And there was no one song that sold the movie like in Aladen, Frozen, and Pocahontas and others. 3) Disney tried to be too cute by half by creating all of this controversy around the race of the Prince. There were those in the black audience who may have preferred a black prince, however, IMO they should have kept it the way it was originally planned (with a white European Prince). Disney is masterful at developing that type of character, although the Prince was just fine, I think it hampered the writers. 3) there was just too much pre-film release controversy. Remember, this is children's entertainment. I think the pre-film focus on race etc, turned-off a lot of people. Disney should have done the film the Disney way and once released they should have then promoted it as another Disney Princess that just happened to be Black.
I'd say Disney should have stuck to their guns and initial vision, and ignored the self-appointed "anti racism" watchdogs. Appeasing them didn't please them or shut down the constant faux-outrage, which continued and still continues to this day.
With Tangled, Wreck-it-Ralph, and Frozen, Disney ignored the lunatic fringe, and their whining never took over the PR of the film like it did with Frog.
Hopefully Disney will be wise enough to continue ignoring the SJW human debris with their future films, but especially Moana.
Frankly, I enjoyed this movie and Princess and the Frog beats Frozen for me. Sure the other one was alright, but it doesn't top this beloved masterpiece for me at all. I much prefer this one over Tangled and Frozen.
And it takes place in New Orleans and Cajun food. One of the best spots in the whole world and delicious meals. This movie will continue to touch my very soul and is indeed one of my Top 10.
As for "hate", well sorry but you all need to face the reality; not everyone's a Frozen fan. You people have your personal favourites, we have ours. This one seems to have plenty of fans with it, and I hope to see more if the Disney fanatics appreciating Princess and the Frog's flawless animation, beautiful storyline and the amazing fireflies. Ray's an instant favourite and he's one of mine from the whole Disney franchise.
Tiana was drawn and digitally coloured so gorgeously even in her equally beautiful frog form. I'd take her more than Elsa, and well that's me. Because she's made more of an endearing effect on me. I'm definitely Team Tiana.
I love this movie and it definitely deserves some more love. But there's no real hate for this film. I would like topics like this to be just about praising a wonderful film, not hating others. Frozen and Tangled fans don't hate this movie. I would like to see a lot more unity among fans of the recent Disney films. The Classic era fans stand together, the Golden Age fans stand together, and the Renaissance fans stand together. It's time for the Revival Age fans to do the same!

Yeah, you know? "Hate" really is an overused word. I could see people "disliking" instead going so far with consistently using the "hate" word for sure. As for Frozen, I wasn't trying to deliver it that, and same for Tangled. I liked them both but Princess and the Frog is much better. It gives me nostalgic Disney feels. I'm so fond of the 2D animation and the inspiration such magnificent artwork it has given. I'm a late twenty-something year old, and I'm all for the Classic Disney era.
By the way, this might be somewhat off topic but has anyone ever looked a real frog before and imagine to themselves, "Would this turn into a beautiful princess if I kissed it?" haha. Yeah it's fun thinking. Anyway...

You rock. I'm early thirties, so it's less surprising that I love the classic era--cuz I was a kid and preteen during the peak of the Disney Renaissance in the early 90s.
I love Darby O'Gill and the Little People. It was pretty nice seeing Sean Connery so young and singing in that one. Same with Mary Poppins. Julie Andrews continues to be one of my favourite Disney legends voice/acting wise.
I still cherish Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, and the Chip and Dale mini films. Fantasia too is a marvelously animated and orchestrated Disney movie.
Oh yeah, jname96? Which ones of the Disney Renaissance/Classic era are you still fond of? :)
You don't have to be a freak to love Pocahontas. Despite its flaws, Pocahontas has a lot of positives going for it. The animation style was wonderful, one of my favorites of the time. The songs were epic and great within the context of the movie. The film overall has this grand style and an almost old Hollywood feel that make it very enjoyable. It has it's problems, but is no where near deserving the hate it gets.

I don't understand why this movie is hated. I enjoy it very much and have watched it several times. I think it is a nice addition to the Disney collection. I love Tangled, Frozen and I love this movie. Very enjoyable.
I think a lot of people let the fact that the 1920's were a time of segregation, violence against African Americans and it is set in the South where the chances of a young, black woman getting anywhere were impossible (hence the comment my the realtors telling Tiana that she should stay where she is because of her background).
Maybe people feel that Disney is trying to re-write history by making it seem that segregation did not happen, but I think it showed it in a subtle way that there was a separation of the races.
Or it can be because the main characters spend much of the time as frogs and the prince is a bit of a jerk who treats his servant terribly.
