You know it, people! This is the thread dedicated to the most awesome character on TV, The Dean Winchester; and to Jensen Ackles, the supremely talented actor who brings him to life.

The rules are simple:

1. You must love Dean and Jensen Ackles.
2. Absolutely no character/actor/actor's significant others bashing is allowed.
3. There is a place for J2 and Wincest, but this is not it. We don't judge, but if we choose to indulge, we do so elsewhere.
4. Remember that we're here to have fun. We don't take ourselves too seriously!

I have no problem with his point blank answer to that point blank question, though. It IS his style after all, and one of the biggest reasons that I love him so.

I think the only "results" they want to see are to screw with Jensen and get their 15 minutes of con fame. What they say they want and what they actually want are not very much in sync, probably because almost all of them are teenage girls (or women in the category of "old enough to know better") with extremely immature views about gender orientation and sexuality, who are pushing a ship fantasy that is really for heterosexual women. Otherwise, they would be pushing shipping the show's female characters as hard as they push Destiel and Wincest, instead of hating on them and declaring Kim and Brianna "disgusting" for fooling around at cons.

I have no objections to slash fic. I've read some good stuff over the years and been buds with some pretty damned good fan and profic slash writers. Hell, I've edited and published it.

But I prefer it not reduce two grown-ass men to teenage girls pretending to be men who are pretending to be like a het couple where one plays the "man" and the other plays the "woman" in extremely stereotyped gender roles that are also curiously misogynistic. There's nothing progressive about that and I'm not at all surprised Jensen has no interest in it. If people want to write yaoi like that, that's fine, but they need to stop acting as if they are representing the GLBT community, 'cause girls, the real GLBT community has moved the hell on from that stuff (even allowing for the fact that the GLBT community is anything but monolithic).

Besides, for me, actions onscreen speak louder than words at cons. I think that if Jensen were genuinely homophobic, the putting of Dean into situations where he ends up validating a guest star gay couple as just ordinary people would have ended at least six seasons ago. Instead, we had Dean doing exactly that as late as last season in "The Chitters" and Jensen never made a single complaint about it.

I also think that if Jensen were homophobic, you wouldn't have gay and trans fans happily posting photos of themselves hugging Jensen after coming out to him at their photo session. I've seen more than one of those on social media.

Nor do we hear Jensen embarrassing himself spontaneously on social media or in interviews on the subject, as many celebrities have done. The *only* time this comes up is when some a-hole with boundaries issues ambushes him with the same damned question at a con Q&A.

Yep. And if people didn't incessantly ask him "questions" at cons that are basically demands he validate their ship, we'd probably never know how he feels about gay people, aside from that whole thing with his aunts. That entire topic is a con land mine for him and has been for years. Of course he's going to shut it down and not go into his usual long, thoughtful response because he knows perfectly well it's a trap and he'll get trashed either way. All giving a long response will do is give these asshats more ammunition.

And y'know, they tried this crap at the last Jaxcon, too, and as I recall, the rest of the audience was not pleased about it.

Yep. It's basically saying "I will only accept how you feel about gender and gender orientation if it's exactly like how I feel about it." If you are in a group of ten GLBT people, you will get ten different opinions on the subject. Ten very different opinions. God forbid any of them have a different opinion of any of these little girls. They'd probably get lectured about how they're not gay enough!

As for Jensen being more like Misha, as much as I like Misha, I think he is hardly the paragon of slash-ship-lovin' these kids think he is. An awful lot of his "support" is sarcastic. They're just too dumb to see it.

Same, tbh. I mean, I still think their friendship is awesome, but a lot of Misha fans have really turned me off. The Cockles stuff really isn't all that different from J2 tinhats. At the end of the day, Jensen is an accessory used to prop up a fave or a ship. And when he fails to match a certain list of standards, the fans/shippers rip him to shreds with glee.

But hey, a lot of Cockles fans disowned Jensen anyway late last year, saying that Darius was more worthy of Misha, etc., etc.

Yeah I still love their friendship too. But it's become more obvious to me now that both sides of the fandom place specific demands on Jensen, and that they don't really see him as a whole person. That might be why most Jensen fans don't ship him with anyone, other than Danneel of course. Cuz more often than not he's just a piece of meat, much like Dean.

Also I agree with Snow that Misha generally uses sarcasm to answer Destiel questions and lots of fans will take those answers as affirmation (which is why I disagree with people who accuse Misha of queerbaiting). But the other thing about Misha is that he's not caught in the middle of two massive ships, both in-show and IRL, like Jensen is. He knows the majority of his fans ship Destiel, so I think he can be more chill and "yeah, sure . . ." about it. Plus that's more his personality, and that's fine.

But Jensen isn't Misha. And that's fine too. He's more private, he has seemingly zero interest in any romantic relationships on the show (I remember how annoyed he seemed by a Megstiel question at that 2014 panel with the writers/showrunner). He's more of a "piece of meat" than Misha is. He (and Dean) are the fandom's fvck toy, so personal barriers are put up. And he seems fine with fans objectifying/fetishizing/sexualizing him with other characters and/or his rl costars. Otherwise he wouldn't sign Destiel/Wincest fan art or agree to suggestive J2/Cockles photo ops. He's never said: "You are not allowed to do this in fanon." But when asked "Why don't you do this too?" He has every right to say "Because I don't see it."

I never did ship Jensen with anyone but his wife. However, I understand that others do. Also, I'm not a Destiel or wincest shipper, although I get that others are. But to be so rude to him about any of those ships, whoever did this and for whatever reason, is utterly ridiculous behavior. His direct and succinct response was deserved in response to that question and to that questioner. They desperately need to learn to show some respect and to stop feeling as though they own him and are owed something. Such entitlement, lack of decorum and no respect for boundaries. SMH

Sorry but tweets like that just show that person's class or rather lack of it.

The more I see this crap the more I regret dipping my toe in this fandom. Sick & disgusting is putting it mildly - and I include all factions of this fandom in that - destielers, wincest all of them.

Best thing is to watch the show and ignore fans - all of them.

It completely paints him into a corner. And his response is being deemed as "rude" and "insensitive" and "tactless" because he gave her an honest answer.

The only thing I saw remotely resembling the show was Jensen saying that Dean is still trying to figure out how to behave around mom and come to grips with what a mom could and should be.

I've never attended a convention, but I'm getting the impression lately that it's more about the Js than the show. And I think the audiences are becoming younger or more immature... or something. The Js are having to work harder and harder to make something new and fresh out of stale repetitive questions.

It was so lovely that one time a fan mentioned to Jensen that she noticed he paused before descending the steps to Hell and was that intentional or in the script. You could tell Jensen was chuffed that she noticed. He not only protects Dean, but actually becomes Dean once the cameras roll. It was a nice moment. They are becoming rarer and rarer.

There was also the cool news that Jensen and Gino, his brother in law, and I think his father in law is involved, will be opening a brewery. I know Jensen has been seen at craft beer conferences the past couple of years. I think the company is called Family Business Brewery. (Or is it Beer) Co. Based in Austin.

I'm so over Jensen being the whipping boy for this fandom. There is never a right answer for shipping questions, someone will always be mad at his answer. its ridiculous. Also, the response has been over the top and extreme....the Destiel fans say they want the truth, but apparently they don't, they really want to be teased and lied to by others.

I follow such a select small group of fans on twitter, and I never go looking for con reports anymore, that I just never hear about this stuff until the people I do follow start talking about it or I read it here and on other boards. I really don't regret ignoring most of fandom. And I'm very glad I didn't go back to Jaxcon after last year. Though, ironically, I thought it was supposed to be more of a tinhatter meet-up con location than anything else. At least, it seemed that way last year.

Then again, as others have pointed out, certain tinhatters and wincesters will pretend to be destiel fans for the sole purpose of creating wank, and that could be the case here. But, obviously, there are also destiel and cockles fans who love to try and set up Jensen for the sole purpose of bashing him too, even though they clearly desperately need him for their ship. All the predominant ships do, which if you think about it doesn't say much about what they really think about their supposed fav that their fav clearly isn't a whole person either without shipping him with Jensen or Dean.

Almost all the Dean/Jensen fans I know don't ship him anymore at all precisely because of the wankmasters, who I'm sure don't speak for the majority of their fan base, but unfortunately through their actions throw shade on said fan base.

I doubt Jensen is losing sleep over it, if he's even aware; and as with all things, this too shall pass.

I'm frankly more upset to read that all Jensen had to say regarding upcoming episodes was about Mary blah, blah, mommy, blah, blah. Bored.

Did someone say there was another con this weekend? Poor guy.

she is a j1 stan, & said tweet was posted before vegas few years back, cause she got p** with jensen cause he had posted i think a pic with misha. anyway she was at jaxcon. aparently she ''plays'' professor & teaches abt the show at some university-school whatever. anyhow last year, also at jaxcon, had her chronies sorry ''students'', asking questions at the con. can't recall exactly details but there was something going on with another question at jensen by one of them. now 2nd year in the row she was there (& she even had a photo op with snowflake, another chick & jensen). anyhow point is maybe she had something to do with the question because of the tweet, the last year questions stunt by her chronies, & there are reports that the questioner was laughing, so at least that makes it clear that they where setting jensen up, one way or another.

The sad thing is, the girl and her cronies could be actual Destiel fans or they could be Wincesters trying to stir things up. There are as many agent provocateurs in that part of the fandom as there were in revolutionary movements of Late Imperial Russia. It's difficult to tell which is which and usually not worth trying to find out.

Definitely some people with skewed priorities and far too much time on their hands.

I was kinda bummed I couldn't afford to go back to Jaxcon this year. Not so bummed now. Maybe the first year was always going to be the best one.

Okay. I worked Jaxcon.

Not only did I work Jaxcon, but I have known the Volunteer that was fielding the questions for the J2 and Misha panels for YEARS. And knowing how Jensen and fans feel about shipping questions, and the fact that questions like that are frowned upon by the convention itself (hence why there is now a raffle and fielding of questions before the panels) this girl lied about her question.

Yes, he was looking might fine today but got tired during autographs (or something). He had to step away for a bit right before my turn which was fine. If he needs a break, he can have a break. Lol!

But the more I see/hear of people and parts of this fandom, the more I dislike both. There was a woman in line behind me when I was about 10 people away from Jensen . . . ugh! I got my pass marked and Jensen's autograph was apparently #1 out of 10 at the con which, of course, made perfect sense to me as he was the #1 person I wanted to see there.  But the idiot behind me, when her pass got marked, demanded to know why Jensen was #1 and not Jared. The volunteer responded that she didn't know and the idiot/person would have to ask TPTB. Of course, that wasn't good enough so the volunteer suggested maybe it was because his last name was first which set off comments of how stupid a reason that was. Clif was nearby and heard so he asked her what the problem was. She told him to which he responded that Jared was first on the call sheet everyday of shooting so what was the big deal with Jensen being first here. Of course, that didn't shut her up. Idiot. 

If Jensen overheard any of that, I don't blame him at all for taking a moment.

But that fan is one of the reasons I don't attend Supernatural conventions. Although I'm sure the J's have heard and seen it all when it comes to dealing with the general public.

There were some wonderful and very sweet photo op and auto stories with Jensen from the Houston Con. He really is such a sweetheart and so humble and nice! 

The Las Vegas con is next week and I think Jensen generally sings there. Was that the 1st con he sang at the Saturday night concert?

He didn't sing last year  I was there and the rumors were strong that he would (thanks to Clif hinting very strongly that he would), but in the end he didn't. He said he was so tired when they arrived and it was either stay up late and be completely wiped for Sunday, or get some rest and be on his game for Sunday.

I am trying not to get my hopes up for this year, since he hasn't thus far and with the new babies and all. It will be a big bonus if he does!

When you see the disrespect he gets from certain factions of the fandom when he does participate, it's hard to blame him for not doing it more often. It's a crime because he really does seem to love it - which is the only reason he should ever do it.

I'm personally finding the J2 panels a bit stale and routine these days. Same thing, jump, answer questions, last question. However I must admit the boys always seem to be having a blast. Their close friendship is very obvious and so nice to watch.

No, I mean the people who think he shouldn't sing at "Louden Swain" events at all, because he is a distraction from the 'real' show. The thing is I've never seen any of them rag on Matt or Mark or any of the other cast that joins in, only Jensen. Personally, I think it's just another excuse to diss him. I love Rob to pieces and I think LS is an amazing band - but they have this show at the auspice of Supernatural and they should be thrilled for the exposure. And I TRULY BELIEVE THEY ARE. Rob & company have never been anything but gracious and respectful. It's the idiot fangirls, just like it's the few idiot Jensen fans who walk out when he's done who give them a reason.

Same here. Plus, I found it very irritating when one of them keeps goofing and goofing to the point that it takes forever to get to answer. I mean, I like that they goof around a bit. The first 5-10 minutes has become staple for that and it's good but there is only a limited amount of time for actual questions and it was a bit frustrating because there are good questions out there.

I guess I would just like for Jensen to actually be able to answer questions without being interrupted or upstaged as he is at times.

That's the danger of having full video from the panels for every con, I suppose. But it's like a concert tour where the set list doesn't change, only the banter and/or song intros - it's a show meant for the live audience. They don't expect one person to see 10-12 shows in a row.

On another note -- first world problems.... I am going to Vegas con and I just this moment realized I probably won't be able to see Jensen's big episode 'live' (depending on hotel tv etc). On the other hand, maybe we'll actually get to hear his thoughts on it on Sunday, if people can restrain themselves from questions about pranks, lol.

Yes, good point. And at least the boys keep it fresh even when answering the same question over and over. Jensen in particular appears to be enjoying himself way more than those early days of panels when he would stand with arms folded and let Jared do all the talking.

Lucky you going to Vegas!!  Hope you are selected to ask a question because I know you'll ask something interesting.

**You should get the episode on the hotel TV. Last time I was in Vegas we stayed at the Luxor - the elevator ride is something else.

I doubt I'll get in the draw for questions at the main panel, but there is always the Gold, where they choose. And... I have a M&G with Jensen, although they say now we're not allowed to post/talk about it even in the most general terms. I had one last year in Vegas, too, but never got the chance to ask a question. One person (not mentioning names, but quite well known) hogged up a good 15 minutes of the 30 we're allotted. I hope the same doesn't happen this time as well.

Previously isn't so bad if you stick to the forums. There are 'sticky' ongoing threads, a spoiler/discussion thread and a weekly episode thread (among a few others) and then it's pretty much open to what you want to talk about after that.
As I said in the other thread, I'm hoping that a lot of the people I've enjoyed talking Show (and DEAN!!!) here with will land together somewhere. For now, I'm probably going to try and participate in previously and see how that goes. I would appreciate a heads-up if something good gets going though! I'm gonzosgirrl there and on Twitter/Instagram if you want to keep in touch.

Ditto, gonzogirl! Have fun. I hope you get some good Dean tidbits from the M&G. There's no hope for that from any of the Creation panels any more or at this point, IMO. But have a blast anyway. 

I'm torn what to ask, given the chance. There are so many current things I'd like to know about Dean (and Jensen,lol) but I have had the same obsession since I first watched the show, and with each subsequent awful thing that happens to them, I want to know even more. If Dean were given just one moment in time to go back - no choice, just that one moment - would he let Sam shoot John in order to end Azazel? So many things would play out differently, especially knowing what he knows now. Anyway, I'll probably just blurt out something dumb, but that's my dream question.

Unfortunately, BNFs are like that. To you, it's a cool opportunity to meet someone whose work you've admired on the small screen. To them, it's a golden opportunity to recreate high school mean girl politics and lord it over all the other fans by monopolizing that person's time. I've seen it with other fandoms, too. It's amazing how someone who doesn't actually care about something at all can be so covetous of your access to it.

There seems to be some speculation around 'Thinking Out Loud' but maybe that's just wishful thinking (out loud). LOL! Honestly, I'll be thrilled with anything - something new seems too much to hope for. If I had one wish, it would just be that it not be Whipping Post. Even though he kills it, it's just not my kind of song. It seems likely though, since that also gives Mark his turn on drums (and I do love his and Stephen's synchronized drumming).
