You know it, people! This is the thread dedicated to the most awesome character on TV, The Dean Winchester; and to Jensen Ackles, the supremely talented actor who brings him to life.

The rules are simple:

1. You must love Dean and Jensen Ackles.
2. Absolutely no character/actor/actor's significant others bashing is allowed.
3. There is a place for J2 and Wincest, but this is not it. We don't judge, but if we choose to indulge, we do so elsewhere.
4. Remember that we're here to have fun. We don't take ourselves too seriously!

Me too. And then I read "Written by Davy Perez" and my excitement fizzled some. This is the guy who forgot to write Dean into the final third of his first episode. Caveat: I'll apologize if it's ever discovered that it was an editing thing and not the writing.

ETA: I (inexplicably) still have 12x08 on my DVR and Carver is still credited as Exec. Producer in the opening credits.

I get what you mean, but the episode still didn't last 30 minutes. So even if it's the editing that cut Dean's part, it only means the writing made for a too long episode...
And he still manage to write Dean calling himself a dick for daring to be upset about Mary leaving so... Jury's pretty much down on Perez right now for me.

Plus, Perez tweeted something during or right after the episode aired - forgotten what now, since I don't like thinking about this guy - that made it sound like he really didn't think much of Dean.

So for me the jury has already passed sentence. Perez is going to have to do a 180 with his writing and attitude, and for more than one episode, before I change my low opinion of him.

This is how I feel too. Even if it was an editing thing or a cut scene it obviously made no difference to the episode since it was dropped so easily.

Perez's next ep is episode 10. The one Dabb said was going to be Cas centric and have a twist on Dean's hell rescue.

I'm sure its going to ruin it.

That's one of my biggest worries for the season, and the reason I'm so down about it...
I have 0 interest in Sam Winchester, and Cas only works for me when he's with Dean, since his "solo" storylines tend to suck, so if they also let me down on that, *and* don't write for Dean, well...

Yeah, I'm not expecting much if any of the writing to truly focus on this from any sort of Dean perspective. We may find out more about the rescue but seeing as it is touted as a Cas-centric ep I expect any revelations or focus on it to be told from that Cas-centric perspective. I'd love it if I were wrong.

I wouldn't mind if they didn't mentioned Dean because if they do I'm sure they'll ruin everything about season 4 with something lame like...

There is supposed to be an other Angel who is an adversary of Cas. So I can see a scenario where they try to sell that Cas had always been watching Sam and Dean and really admires Sam so he wants to help him by rescuing Dean so he can put Sam on the right path. Then other angel tries to stop Cas.

Urgh... I'm not sure there's a vomiting emoticon, but that's pretty much what that scenario makes me feel...
I hope not, but that does sound like something Dabb would want.
OTOH, I'm pretty sure it would cause a blow up in one portion of the fandom that they do not want to anger... So I'm keeping my fingers crossed on them taking a "safe" road.
I'm expecting more of a screw-up about Cas past. Since until now, Cas is supposed to have discovered humanity when he met Dean, I'm expecting a retcon among the lines of "oh no, Cas always rebelled and loved humanity, he just didn't remember until now because Naomi erased his memories before..." You know, to make sure that there's really nothing special about Dean...

Oh, I was just talking about the potential showrunner stuff, not so much the episode itself.

But yes, I hope this next episode he has written includes Dean in the final act in a decent way. That would be nice.

Me, too. And yes, I also noticed his credit in episode eight.

It's not always significant if someone is still on the sheet, since they don't always rush to make changes. But that his name is back, and Dabb's is gone, is pretty notable. Unless they screwed up and used a sheet format from last year, but that's unlikely.

Frequency stopped production for its season a while ago, since it got no extra episodes. And with its ratings (and not being from CBS), it's probably a goner, so....

I hate to say this because I want it to be true more than anything but it looks like the sheet from Red Meat last season. Singer was still executive consultant then.
It would be the boost the show needs to have Carver back as showrunner instead of just an exceutive producer.

What I think is interesting is that he's still an EP. Former showrunners who are genuinely off the show get "demoted" to Executive Consultant.

I don't know what their criteria are for those cards. Also, Jim Michaels does have a rep for screwing with fans, sometimes. But it does appear to be legit and if it is, that indicates Carver's back.

I usually scroll over JM tweets, he gives me the creeps (always pictures with younger females) But I did see Carver's name and that gave me pause.

It's probably much too early for that kind of shake up though...
The ratings may have decreased but they have not sunk, so unless there's been heavy drama BTS, it would be a very fast change... ESpecially since they're still pushing the dumb LOL storyline in interviews and such...

Somebody else mentioned that with Season 13 now an official go, Jensen will turn 40 while filming it. Hard to imagine, from the 'kid' who wanted to continue the family business. In my opinion, he looks even better today.


He does appear slim... that was my first thought.

Sadly I've never met Jensen in the flesh, but I've read reports from fans who have and they say he's slimmer than you'd think. (TV adds ten pounds )

In person I was shocked the first time I saw him! He is very thin (in a healthy looking way)and I could feel his ribs when I hugged him. 

The twins probably don't weigh that much yet, sleepless nights, no time for a work out.

Jensen in leather is sexy but Jensen in a denimjacket is a different kind of sexy.

I am so crossing my fingers I get the chance to hug both him and Jared (and maybe Misha) in Rome next year.

It's okay. I love Goran Visnjic so I watch for him. Dean is getting less story than Cas these days, so I question how much it's about 'time'. He just doesn't seem to want to do anything else.

I think Jensen is a little busy with his family and those adorable new twin babies. 

Jensen didn't direct this season because he wanted to spend time with his family. I'm glad to see Jensen is putting his family ahead of the show.

Of course he's busy with the twins. But really, he hasn't done anything else (acting) for more than 6 years, not even on hiatus. That is NOT a criticism, just a fact. As a fan, I'd love to see him take on other roles and I'm bothered when I see others doing roles he'd be brilliant in. As a human being, I admire him for doing exactly what he wants to with his life and career.

I love Dean but it's not the same these days... I now long to see him in another role. If the show moved to less episodes he would have the time. He's SO talented. He steals every scene. He can make us smile. He can break our heart.

I recently rewatched the episode with Cain where Dean took down a houseful of demons. He didn't have the Mark, he was BAMF Dean. Honestly it brought tears to my eyes. These days he can't jump a fence and is beaten to the ground by magic knuckles.

 And it's not like First Born was years and years ago, ffs. Dean (and Jensen) are still in their prime. I wish there was a way to make Dabb & Company see that.

Timeless blows. It will probably make you run back to Supernatural, screaming "All is forgiven!"

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of all the poaching Kripke tries to do with his old show to prop up his new shows. Get in the popular guest stars from the old show, buy all the expensive music Singer and Manners told you was to expensive. Hire on a talented-but-inconsistent staff writer or two. Why don't you just try plotting a decent story, Krip?

I think it's a cool casting choice. I've never seen Misha on another show before so it'll be cool to check it out.

As for Jensen, I-secretly-not-so-secretly hope that he'll start catching the bug to do other things, even small things, on other shows. He just generally doesn't seem interested (with exceptions like Deadpool) or doesn't have the time, esp with twins now. But maybe seeing Misha doing other things will get him thinking about it *crosses fingers*

So much this. Please follow Misha's example, Jensen! Pleeeeeease. Then again, Misha has more time and less newborns than Jensen, but still. Maybe sometime in the nearish future?

Good for Misha though. Really hope this sets a trend for the other Spn actors.

As for wanting to see Jensen step out his current gig and do anything else, even if only a one-shot, it's always my dream, yet I fear a busted one. Obviously this is his choice, and sure right now he's busy with his family and that's great. But it's not like he was doing anything extra before this, not for a number of years.

Yes, at one time he was very busy on the show, being a supposed lead and all. But that's not really true anymore. And that was before the twins were born.

I'm glad for Misha that he got a guest-starring gig on Kripke's new, and probably one-season, show, and I'm sure his contract isn't as binding as Jensen's, so he has more flexibility. But he certainly hasn't been less busy on SPN than Jensen - frankly quite the contrary, especially this season.

I don't think we'll see Jensen doing anything different until SPN finally ends. It's frustrating, but I think that's just the way it's going to be.

''supposed lead''is exactly right, since he was never treated as an actual lead from the very beginning. the lack of actual story arcs is prove of exactly that. in every other show with 2 leads, everything from story arcs to variations, is split equally between 2 leads. when it comes to jensen that never happened.

now jensen mentioned at various cons, multiple job propositions, which couldn'd do because tptb kept bringing up conflict of filming schedule as excuse every single time. given jensen had practically nothing to do on the show most of the time, & tptb had no problem to change the schedule for various guests i call bs on their excuses when it comes to jensen landing other jobs. for example when jensen was offered to appear at dol again, tptb didn't let him & that cost him his part on the show (his character has being recasted). the biggest faul was though the deadpool part. in that case was a clear conflict of interest between companies, since jensen is under wb contract, there is no way in hell they would let him go work for marvel, ever (& everybody knows marvel has eyes on jensen for a long time). suspect the same goes for other job offers he got.

as for jensen not wanting to do anything else as some claim, is also bs cause if he did'nt, he wouldn't look for other jobs or talk about keep losing other job oportunities. & still remember jensen's guilty cheerleader/dean stays the same comments, which spoke volumes alone. oh & btw can't recall in which con jensen said that it was his agent who told him to stick with the show... now question is what kind of idiot tells his client to stick with a show who gives him 0 to do, while at the same time the number of jobs jensen keeps losing keep pilling up? for example a marvel job is a really big deal, & not something that an actor lands every day. & especially someone in jensen's possition where the roadblocks on his career moving forward, keep pilling up. from typecasting, to a striktly scifi/teenflicks resume, to portraying same character for years without being able to do anyhting else. all that counts against him & don't say this lightly, since i've seen actors getting in trouble for less than that.

also given how jensen is treated (lack of actual story arcs/variations/pr etc) totaly getting dark angel vibes all over again here, for some time now. that's also something his agent should have took care of, given jensen is supposed to be a damn lead. & yet did not, again, given things go from bad to worse for jensen & s11-12 is an example of that. let me also remind you that tptb did'nt have a problem to let special snow flake go make gg right stuck in the middle of filming spn... double standards much, when it comes to jensen as usual, is it the lack of story arcs/variations/pr or other job offers.

it's all these bs that convinced me that i don't do jensen any favors, keep watching the show. quite the oposite. & btw it's totaly possible to support jensen without watching a show that does'nt do anything else apart using his presence for ratings. cause that's exactly what tptb are doing for years now. & same goes for misha too. speaking of misha glad he landed a guest spot.

now back to jensen i think we should start sending tweets to kripke asking him to get jensen for a guest spot on his new show. & not only kripke, also send tweets to whoever else has a saying on other tv shows asking them to include jensen on their to do eps as guest at some point. maybe just maybe he will land one, he will be able to do. if of course his agent finally pulls his head out of his a** & does his freaking job by putting a damn clouse on the new contract, so a)jensen will not get scr** all over again & b)will be given time of, to do something else, since tptb clearly have no intention to give him something to do on the show. & that's a really big if, given jensen's agent proved his incomptence to safeguard his client multiple times alredy (dark angel anyone?). god only knows seen enough actors having their careers scr*** by an idiot agent. don't want that to happen to jensen too

I honestly did not expect to enjoy this as much as I have. Their willingness to parody themselves to such extremes (I mean Rich, Rob & Company - haven't seen the finale yet) is pretty ballsy.

I was afraid it was going to be about the fans, but it's really not. Well worth the $9.99 the iTunes subscription cost me to watch it in Canada.

They also do a live "after hours" show called "Kings of Con-versation" in which they talk about the inspiration for each episode. That's about an hour long and involves song and dance. It's on right now, though it keeps cutting out, which is annoying.

Finally got to see the episode this morning. Loved it! There are so many little asides and throwbacks that it takes repeat viewing for me to catch them all. My favourite in this one? Rob asking Jared to take off his beanie for the photo op. "What? I paid for it." Such a slow burn, that.

As pondlass said in her post Creation should get Jensen and Misha together on stage once in a while. I love the JIB cons for precisely that reason. They are outrageously funny.

That was touted as a one-time thing for YANA, right? I guess the big difference between Creation and the JIBcon is that the boys are only at the North American cons on Sunday, so there isn't much time (what with the meet & greets and hundreds of photo ops). They are at JIB for at least two days, right?

As much as I love to see J2 (and Jensen/Misha) play off each other, I would dearly love a solo Jensen panel just so he can actually answer questions. He's so good at it.

Just don't go into it for J2 - they are not in it until this last episode. A lot of the 'B' cast is though... Matt, Gil, Kim, Osric, Kurt Fuller (Zachariah) who is hilarious, all playing parodies or 'heightened versions' of themselves, except Alaina, who plays Rob's wife. And the episodes are about 15 minutes (give or take) long.

This. It's really about Rob and Rich, and includes everyone else as guest stars to varying degrees. Even if J2 and Misha were more available, I think they would take a backseat to R2 as a matter of course. And if you know how cons are generally set up, it makes sense that they only come in the last day (though they are mentioned during the series and did appear in that promo before the show started).

But Jensen and Jared are definitely in it as enthusiastically as everyone else. If there's a season two, it's pretty much guaranteed they'll be up for doing it.

The funny thing is that earlier on in the season, it appeared they might be doing the same 'verse as Misha's documentary, but it's actually a bizarro version of the Misha doc, which is itself a bizarro version of the SPN set by way of "The French Mistake." In Misha's doc, Jared is a 'roided-up meathead with a short fuse, while Jensen is a "fragile" scaredy-cat. In "Kings of Con," Jaden (Jared's character) is a nervous follower and people pleaser, while Justin (Jensen's character) is...uh...Grand Moff Tarkin, really. If there's a Big Bad of the season, it's Justin.
