Severely Underrated movie

The fact that they had the balls to go with that ending should make anyone who has seen it appreciate it for that fact alone.

I'll admit it, when my family and I saw this in theaters when it was out, I was the only on who liked it and got that the "aliens" were in fact angels saving the children to restart the human race. The religious overtones should have been really hard to miss because there were hints all throughout the movie. However, I think a lot of people might have missed that or misinterpreted the ending when they saw it the first time because let's face it, not too many movies these days have the guts to go with that strong of religious overtones in them, at least not in a positive light anyway.

Is the movie perfect? No. Is it worth multiple viewings? Ehh.. That's totally up to the viewer. Everybody seems to be 50/50 on the film. Does it make for 2 hours of entertaining science fiction? Absolutely. I would totally watch it again if it were to show on TV, mostly for that amazing plane crash scene alone.

I agree.

So underrated I agree it has nice rewatchability too

yeah, it's just kinda fun ina movie sort of way. does what it should and entertaining sci-fi.

I liked it, but thought Greenland did a much better job in this genre especially with pacing. This storyline was like driving from Seattle to Bakersfield on the backroads.

I also liked it and EBERT also gave it a good review as well. For anyone else who's interested in watching it you can view it at the Hbo/Max website.

The one thing wrong was the Angels or the Alien beings who dropped them off on the new planet from their SPACE SHIP also didn't seem to realize how it takes more than just the DNA of 2 humans to be able to populate a planet.

Because only 2 humans would also result in lots of INBREEDING, which means the SPECIES they've dropped off would soon DIE OFF instead of being able to populate the place.

If I remember correctly there were other space ships landing and presumably dropping off other children in the final scene from this movie.

reply

It looks like the other ships were going to other planets to deposit other couples on other planets. You can see them flying past the planet where Caleb is dropped off.

I agree, it's not perfect but it does seem underrated. I was surprised by how suspenseful and entertaining it was. The plane and train crash are impressive.

It was, especially coming out on cusp of the 'Cinematic Universe' superhero age dominating everything as opposed to just the occasional (and welcome) Batman, Superman, Spiderman, XMen films

In many ways the end of this movie was symbolic of these type mid budget scifi movies or drama movies in cinema being nuked by the comic book age
