He was a very special person. There's definitely no doubt about that ... and it's also nice to hear that he's had this kind of an effect on your life. 1. INLAND EMPRIE 2. MULHOLLAND DRIVE 3. BLUE VELVET Laura Dern's in both 2 of your top 3 picks and in 2 of my top 3 picks. I'm going MISS YOU very much Mr. LYNCH!!! Thanks for the many stories that you've left behind for us which are very much appreciated!!! https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/david-lynch-has-died/ar-AA1xkmkn David Lynch, the director behind Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and other unsettling works, has died, his family confirmed in a post on his official Facebook page. He was 78 years old. The post announcing his passing didn’t list a cause of death. But last August, Lynch revealed that he had been diagnosed with emphysema “from my many years of smoking.” At the time, he told Sight and Sound that he could no longer “go out” over concerns that he could catch covid, and that he likely would not be able to direct again in person. In a post about his diagnosis, he said that “recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire.” The post, of course, had a very Lynchian addition: “I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco — the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them — but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema.” Here is the full statement from Lynch’s family announcing his death: It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.” It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way. Lynch’s work is horrific, gorgeous, nonsensical, funny, and emotional — often all at once. His hit TV show, Twin Peaks, kept a cult following over the course of decades, from its debut in 1990 all the way to Twin Peaks: The Return, which returned in 2017. Despite the darkness that lurked beneath many of Lynch’s works, his offbeat humor and personality endeared him to many — especially during the covid lockdown, when he uploaded daily “weather reports” to YouTube. For many people, it was a bright spot during a tough time: an icon of film sitting at his desk in an office that kind of looks like a concrete bunker, peering up at the sky to let you know what it’s like outside. Thank you for the update, David Lynch. Variety has an extensive obituary about Lynch’s life and work. "Well Avi, this has been wonderful, but I have to go now, my daughter is ill" Great catch!!! And isn't it also interesting how Janet was willing to leave her daughter ALL ALONE at a time where she might be ill. But then we also know Lacy is fine by the way that we see her taking the antibiotic before making and eating her own dinner. And we also see her eating it in front of her PUPPET THEATRE (where it also looks like she's served them the blueberry ??? FRUIT that she said she didn't want with her dinner). Also wonder if JANET served AVI any of the zucchini at the picnic that his CULT members had grown too much of (that Avi was also giving away after the other PUPPET SHOW was performed with Avi's PUPPETS)??? Avi had also asked for some donations as well. Do we ever get to see what's there on the plate that Janet puts away??? It's also curious how there only seems to be that ONE plate instead of 2 plates. 🍽️ "Unless of course this entire scene was a daydream as you previously suggested." Still another thought that came to mind was the possibility that Janet was having a MEMORY of what happened with AVI. But after checking the scene to see if she was wearing the same clothing or not (which could indicate the situation took place at 2 different times, since she was wearing the same clothes, that also didn't seem very plausible. But of course there's also the other possibility that she could have worn the same clothing on 2 different occasions. But since we saw where REGINA disappeared to (as she walks along the road on what looked like her taking a SMOKING BREAK from her job), most likely there's also another reasonable explanation for how AVI vanished as well??? But I also like the other IDEA that an ANGEL APPEARS to bring Lacy's PUPPETS alive (like in the POEM Avi was reading) and then POOFED or EVAPORATED him away for her so that she no longer had to worry anymore about him moving in with her MOTHER the way WAYNE did. 😇
Lacey isnt interested, and Janet doesn't push the issue. Its almost as if janet is happy Lacey will not be coming.
Remember how Lacy wanted to STAY there at CAMP after she saw Wayne had also come to pick her up??? This would be how Janet would already know Lacy would refuse the invitation to join her and Avi for dinner. IOW, perhaps the reason why she tells her she's invited is because she also already knows Lacy would refuse the invitation??? What's also interesting is how Lacy seems so much more RELAXED once she has the place all to herself for a change. And it's also interesting how AVI disappears at the time when we CUT AWAY from AVI reading the poem at the picnic to see Lacy praying to her puppets (as if the ANGEL in the POEM had arrived to bring them to life)??? and when I feel inclined to wait before the puppet stage, no, rather to stare at is so intensely that in the end to counter-balance my searching gaze, an angel has to come as an actor, and begin manipulating the lifeless bodies of the puppets to perform. Angel and puppet! Now at last there is a play! Here's a quote from an article that also agrees with what you've said: https://www.theartsdesk.com/film/janet-planet-review-teasing-dissection-mother-daughter-relationship
Baker leads you into the heart of a situation but then leaves you to make your own decision about it. She provides the ingredients for an explosion but doesn’t make it go off onstage, only in your mind, which may be why some find her work slow and uneventful.
Did you find the story to be "SLOW or UNEVENTFUL???" I definitely prefer watching stories like this one that require one to USE their BRAIN as opposed to being SPOON FED everything the way so many movies seem to do these days (especially those other boring stories that they keep churning out with Comic Book Characters). Hello jaco, Thank you very much for your very much appreciated replies to this topic. Did the thought ever cross your mind that Janet may have also LIED to LACY about having dinner with AVI as a way that she could have some TIME to herself ALONE away from Lacy??? Due to the very mysterious way that AVI vanished so suddenly and abruptly (like Regina does when Lacy's waiting in line for some ice cream), that was still another possibility that occured to me (that Janet might have been having a DAYDREAM where she only imagined AVI reading the poem to her). 🤔 Still another thing to NOTE is the STORY Regina tells about her father sending her away to live with her grandparents ... because he received an anonymous letter ... claiming she was doing drugs and keeping company with some older boys. Then 30 yrs later after Regina discovers it was the mother of her friend who sent the letter and mentions it to her father he says: WHAT LETTER??? Which also seems to indicate her father USED that LETTER as an excuse to GET RID of a daughter that he didn't want around in the first place ...the same way as WAYNE also doesn't seem to want his daughter hanging around him. Because WHY didn't Wayne invite Sequoia to SPEND the night or a weekend at Janet's place (especially when he also knew how much Lacy would have loved that)??? Perhaps the answer is because Wayne didn't want Sequoia around him anymore than Regina's father wanted her to be around him??? 🤔 Thanks for the correction. Someone who hunted deer got food poisoning from eating their prey ... something about it being off season or something? Wonder if the kids would taste better than the adults would??? Their spines definitely wouldn't make as impressive a trophy. 😉 View all replies >
