When Gervais is shirking from the actor during the play as he tries to kiss him and Ian Mkellan is pushing his head back. Does anyone else think that this is the funniest comedy moment ever? Its like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and Benny Hill all rolled into one with an extra helping of Wacky Races and a bit of Wallace and Grommit mixed in to boot. Its just brilliant visual humour.
Although, it only just beats the moment when Darren is trying to flush to no avail and then he resorts to using a kitchen utensil to mash it. Amazing.
Idea.
Imagine a sitcom centred around the exploits of Darren Lamb dating. Wouldn't that also be hilarious.
i think Patrick Stewart's part is the funniest thing ive seen on tv in my life. he's built up to be this great Shakespearean actor - but in his trailer he's just a horny old man obsessed with women's tits.
"...and she says 'oi you cant ride your bike on the grass' and i say 'oh no?' and her clothes fall off instantly and shes like 'AHHH' but ive seen everything, anyways..."
Ian McKellen's bit is literally legendary - i almost pee every time..
"... sir ian, sir ian, sir ian - 'action' WIZARD, YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!!' 'cut' sir ian, sir ian, sir ian..."
Ughhh.... Meryl has to wait AT LEAST another year now. FML
Your close to the funniest moment, but it's not that one.
The funniest moment in the series, perhaps all of television was when Andy sat down with Ian McKellan and Sir Ian started to explain acting as if Andy was a child.
I've never laughed so hard in my life. the look on Ricky Gervais' face was remarkable.
IAN: Peter Jackson, the filmmaker, came to me and asked me, 'Ian, I would like you to play Gandalf the Gray in my film adaptaton of the Lord of the Rings. Will you do it?' Now then I answered him by saying 'Peter, are you aware that I am not actually a wizard?' To which he said 'Yes Ian, but what I'd like you to do is use your acting skills to portray or become Gandalf.'
So if anyone could have a link to that clip, it would be most appreciative.
I only watched series 1 so far, but one thing that had me rolling was when someone calls Andy's agent and he tries to put in the earpiece and when he finally gets it done and picks up, he says "hello" and then he immediately closes it and says "They hung up", the way he said it like he didn't care at all was amazing.
Aside from the numerous moments that were put into the show, if you want some real hard laughs, go and see the outakes.
Look up on the Youtube "The art of corpsing". I nearly pissed myself a couple of times.
Especially the scene with Sir Ian. WIZARD youshhh *chuckles* HAHAHAHAHAAAAh. Priceless.
Had anyone noticed that the advice that Sir Ian gave to Andy, no matter how trivial and stupid may it had been, was eventually lost on Andy? Sort of a double whammy irony. :D
i agree that the featurette "the art of corpsing" made me laugh uncontrollably.
in no order: 1. when andy walks in on his manager masturbating 2. the whole "gay play" episode 3. any scene with Daniel Radcliffe (he should seriously start doing comedy)
Last 3 films seen: Tropic Thunder: 9.5/10 Step Brothers: 7.5/10 No Country For Old Men: 9/10
dainko!! I have been waiting for someone to mention the "art of corpsing" featurette!! That is one of the funniest things I have ever seen!!!!!!! I love that featurette!
At the very beginning of episode 1 when Andy puts the box on the back of the carriage. There is a mark on the ground where he is supposed to stand but he moves sideways to get himself into the scene.
for me its when Andy decides he doesnt want to do the sitcom and he uses Barry as an example of 'going out on his terms with dignity and integrity' and he pats him on the back and all the food and snacks come pouring out of his jumper.. everyones non-reaction was priceless...
I just find these lines funny because of the way the performers dilver them.
Les: we askes 100 people do you wanna come and see les dennis in panto our survey says (blows rasberry like Family Furtunes buzzer) why don't people wanna come out and see Les Dennis.
Patrick Stewart: Your single, you live alone and you don't watch star trek, good lord!
Andy: It's based on my own experiences and i geniuinly believe the best things are oturd. Darren: (laughs)...turd.
Bunny: HOhohoho, Smarties yum yum yum!!!
Mike: and your basement meant? Kate Winseet: (like a naughty school child) my fanny.
Sir Ian: Lords of the rings, little peter jackson comes from New Zealand and say's 'sir ian i want you to be Gandalf the wizrad' and i said to 'you are aware that i am not really a wizard'.
Any scenes with Agent and Barry, and also the scenes with Keith Chegwin wer hysterical!
There are three moments I found to be way funnier than that.
1.) Patrick Stewart talking about his script and saying, "...and I ride off...on the grass!" The pause he puts in the sentence is perfect. It had me rolling.
2.) Sir Ian explaining the art of acting. "Acting is just pretending. How did I know what to say? There is a script, with words on it. How do I know where to stand? People tell me." Sir Ian was masterful.
3.) When Andy and Maggie are eating and he keeps making comments about how the child should behave and needs to be quiet and it turns out he has downs syndrome. BRILLIANT!
Why nobody tells "when the whistle blows?" :)) "I don't get it!"
Also: - When Warwick attacks Andy, he gets cofused starts to defend himself and asks something like "how do you fight a midget?!" - Dancing to the mobile ringtone - Darren putting documents to the window so that kids cannot bash him. - The Guardian interview with Andy's cool voice and the fake Ridley Scott-call. - The Byron casting where Andy has a corset to make him look slim and then it opens and his stomach pops out
