I know this isn't a horror movie but it scared the crap out of me:
THE WHITE RIBBON.

Okay, I know the first one is totally lame but I have to admit:
- Scream (the original. The first time I saw it, I was in high school and it scared the crap out of me. Then I just kept watching it and watching it until it was no longer scary. So it's no longer on the list, but at that time, damn!)
- Blair Witch Project (the first. I saw it at a drive in and then when I got home, my roommate was gone for the weekend so I was a bit freaked).
- Paranormal Activity. I watched this on the plane ride home on a trans-Pacific flight and it was really only those last few seconds that did it but they really made the whole movie just kind of terrifying. I'm just glad I didn't wake up my seat mate.
- Wolf Creek. "Head on a stick." Enough said.

It's funny. Like a lot of people have said, horror movies are terrifying when you're little. I just feel like as you grow up and things in the real world happen (like losing loved ones), movies become a lot less scary.

All the movies everyone mentioned are pretty scary. But am I the only person who thinks The Grudge was scary? I watched it by myself, late at night with the lights off and the stereo turned up. There was no way I could take a shower right after the movie lol

Also, I thought 28 Days Later was a great zombie film. Will definitely make you jump and creep you out.

Mothman Prophecies (completely creeped me out)

Event Horizon (my mistake was watching it alone at night...I couldn't sleep afterward)

Blair Witch 1 (the whole 'standing in the corner with your face against the wall' creeped me out)

The Ring scared me.

the birthday party home video segment of Signs, when i first saw it made me jump a little bit, and sent a huge chill down my spine(i was 10). also The Blair Witch Project was one of the eeriest and creepiest movies i have ever seen. it perfectly captured the emotional essence of being lost in creepy woods. i still have fears about going into woods after that movie.

As a kid the flying monkeys in Wizard of Oz frightened me to tears. Maybe I should not have plastered my face against the screen.

I had nightmares from The Shining, but nothing like a film I saw as a teen. Frankie Avalon may have been in it. I was at a Halloween slumber party and awoke to see a decapitated woman's head rolling down a flight of stairs. Scared the crap out of me for weeks.
