Nothing...nothing has ever scared me. Texas Chainsaw Massacre came close but I was more intrigued than scared.

when i was younger i watched IT and being 4 watching that scared me. tho i watched it the other day and laughed...

i think watching scary films when younger is more scary...

but mothman prophercies scared me for some reason, tho no gore or anything.. texas scared the hell out me the first time i watched it did the trick. second not so much....

i think wen i know whats coming the thrill dies kind of.

There are only two movies that scared me silly.

The Exorcist
Prince of Darkness.

Not sure why they scare me so much, I think its my christian upbringing. WHich I broke free from years ago, Thankfully!

Hmm..I think i need to blame my religious beliefs as well for scaring the crap out of me after i saw 'the omen' (1976)...I was only 8 and my parents weren't at home in the night...damn I couldn't sleep properly for 3 or 4 weeks :( lol

I saw 'the exorcist' pretty recently under ideal test conditions (i.e., in the dead of the night with the lights off) but I wasn't that scared (bit of a let down hehe); i just found it mildly disturbing..

I like the fact that 'Prince of Darkness' has come in so many peoples lists! I found it really disturbing...and I thought I was the only one hehe..

Aside from what I saw here, I felt 'The exorcism of emily rose' also had its moments, in spite of being cheesy for the most part..

^ Ditto. I actually took the time to go frame-by-frame through some of the chaotic-flashing-scary images, and wish I hadn't.

The Machinist scared the hell out of me - All of it. The story, the message, Christian Bale's epic transformation into an anorexic insomniac ... -shudders-

Creep scared me ... But only after I spent 10 minutes on the platform of the Glasgow underground. I wouldn't have made any connection if my mother hadn't said "It's a bit like that film ... Creep, right?" We were the only ones there and I pretty much shouted at her for bringing it up, heh.

Psychologically intense films such as Requiem for a Dream, Pi, Irreversible, 1408, The Shining ... etc ... have always left me feeling scared and uncomfortable afterwards. Likewise with the originals of The Ring, The Grudge, One Missed Call...

Un Chien Andalou, Nosferatu, Shadow of the Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula (Gary Oldman = awesome. Keanu Reeves ... Eh) are films I feel compelled to watch every now and then.

As a child ... Jurassic Park scared the crap out of me. Purely because of the scene with the raptors in the kitchen.

All-in-all ... Any films that leave the majority of the horror and scares to your imagination are my thing. In-your-face gore and predictable jumps don't do it for me. I can tell when a smash-edit is coming up, and I'll generally count down to the moment ... Annoying anyone I'm watching the film with, heh.

And now ... I'm off to watch Daybreakers. Bought it on DVD today, and only browsed the boards to get an idea of what people think of it. Instead I jumped into this topic, heh.

CARGO 200 is by far the most disturbing movie I have ever seen... not futuristic and without vampires, but rather scary and very disturbing to say the least.

'The Descent' wasn't cheesy or lame; it was a very well made, well acted horror movie, I don't know why you'd be ashamed to admit that it scarred you (maybe you're confusing it with the lackluster sequel?)

The original "Night of the Living Dead" which I saw at a midnight show at the Waverly theater in NYC on a Saturday night in 1969 (boy that dates me).

It scared the bejesus out of me and I went back to see it at least 8 or 9 times after the first time, always bring new friends so they could be scared too!

And still dont like watching it, and im not into religion at all.
what scared me 1st was the book, and my old bedroom was right near a loft and had this big tree outside which would leave moving shadows.

Threw the book out, than saw the movie with a date a special midnight showing, she wanted to see it, so i got tickets. never told her i was so nervous watching it :-)

I think cause its based on a true story, and the family seemed so average, it made it more scary.
The face and the twisting head i hated, even with the comedy one they done that face still got to me.

Have a massive DVD collection, but still dont have that film.

As for the sequals total cack.

I remember my dad picking me up from daycare when I was 5 on a day my mom was out of town and saying "tonite we're gonna watch a movie about a shark as big as this car." That was only the beginning. I was hiding behind the couch for most of the movie but I still saw enough of JAWS to scare the living holy *beep* out of me!!! I had the most violent night terrors of my life for weeks afterwards and could not go swimming in the ocean, lake, or even pool without being scared *beep* for years!!! Maybe not the scariest movie to most ppl, but the whole experience together, years of torment, and you cany deny JAWS is *beep* scary.

The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think, oh by the way, which one's Pink?

I agree 100%, Jfurm. Actually, I watched Jaws II at the movies when I was around 6, and afterwards I was completely traumatized. I wouldn't get into bed until my parents had checked under it to make sure Jaws wasn't under there ready to bite my legs off. And even then, I'd beg for my mom to sleep with me . I wouldn't go in our swimming pool and forget about the ocean.
It took me a very long time to get over that.
Also, Aliens (1986) scared me while watching it at the movies, but I was fine once I got home. I was around 13 when I saw it, so I guess my imagination was starting to relax a bit.
As an adult, not too many movies scare me anymore. I can't really think of any off the top of my head. So, I'll get back to you on that.

I don't get too scared as an adult anymore either, well I don't enjoy walking in the dark after watching any scary movie but usually I am over that feeling by the next night or until I watch the next scary movie.
I was never traumatized from watching Jaws, however Poltergeist left me scared for years, after first watching it I actually wet the bed after refusing to walk by my closet lol. The closet was above some drawers, when left open (slid to one side) I swore it looked like a bathtub. The hanging clothes that touched stuff on the floor of the closet looked like people, making me believe I was seeing the bathtub scene live. I quickly learned to close the closet before bed. About 5-6 years later when we moved, I ended up having to beg my father to cut down a tree that kept tapping on my window, he refused but agreed to trim the offending branches.
The movie IT caused to to plug the bathtub drain any time I showered too, it's a good thing my family didn't watch many scary movies or I would have been more of a mess.
I don't really let my younger kids watch scary movies because of the impression they had on me as a child, plus after watching Home Alone with my daughter (she was 6 or 7) because I thought she would enjoy it, she believed we were going to be robbed for months.

As much as most people hate the PA series I rather like them. I watch the first one at home on my own at about 1:00am while wearing in-ear headphones (really great idea i know). For some reason I did the same for PA2 as well.

I also found The Amityville Horror remake (2005) scary, mainly because of the creature that appears when the boy goes to the toilet in the middle of the night.

I'm with you on Fourth Kind, dude.

Other great mentions in this thread, including REC, Night of the living dead (it was the 90's version for me, but I'm still uneasy about it) and of-course The Exorcist (arguably the scariest of them all).

But man, Fourth Kind seriously messed my mind. To this day I'm scared of owls. That.. is.. not.. an.. owl

In fact, I'm so scared of that movie, that I don't even bring it up when horror movies are discussed. Hadn't it been for this post, I would've skipped it and went with the classics I just mentioned.

Damn, I don't want to think about it anymore :(

I saw the TRAILER for the Human Centipede and I couldn't sleep for three days! I'd have to be tied down and drugged to sit through the actual movie!
