I Cried Like a Baby

I admit that I cried like a baby throughout most of the movie. I rented it last night and it was great. I love dogs, I have a beautiful white Canaanite dog named Snow and after watching the film I gave her a big hug and kiss. If you are a dog lover like me than "Eight Below" is definitely a must see.

So did I.

I've had huskies, and one died on my birthday a few years ago, and I was just sobbing like a five year old.

i cried the most at the part where dewy died and truman was trying to wake him up and he made that high pitched whining noise that got me i pretty much could not stop crying. My mom left the movie cuz she could not stand the fact that they left the dogs all in all a very good movie.

reply

i am a huge dog lover and I cried the whole entire movie. it was really sad! but really good.

Viola: So, uh, you play the beutiful game... bros... brothers... brethren?

reply

i did too. i rented it last night and half way through i ran and grabbed my dog and made him wtach the rest with me. I've been doting on him all day too!

SPOILERS.......

what made me cry so much though was how the other dogs wouldn't leave the hurt/dying ones. What got me the most was when Truman was licking Dewey and then when Max went back and stayed with Dewey and lost the others... i haven't cried like that in ages!

The scenes that made me cry the most were...

When Jerry had to leave the dogs.

When none of the dogs would share their food with Max. it broke my heart.

When Old Jack couldn't get off his chain and stayed behind (That REALLY got me wailing!)

When Dewey was chasing the Northern Lights and fell and Truman was howling.

I think its the fact that, 1. i have a dog, 2. dogs are so innocent, i just couldn't leave them behind.
Also i think its the loyalty of the dogs and how, well, human they are. its the way they won't leave each other and the way Maya lay her head on Jack and Truman and then later Max, laid their heads on Dewey.... god i'm getting choked up again here... it's like they don't want them to be alone.

I just finished watching this movie and i cryed through the whole thing. lol i am such a baby. I was so sad that Jack couldn't get off the chain and when Max got seperated from them all. I cryed at the sorta happy bit when all the dogs gavce maya the birds when she was injured but then she gave them to max. it was sorta like she was saying he was the leader now. Bawling soooooooo bad. Also when the other dog died and they left him behind. oh i was crying through the whole thing. I dont think i could watch it again it was sooo sad. :(

reply

omg it was sooo sad
i love dogs and this movie just killed me(it was a good movie tho)
but throughout the whole thing i just wanted to jump in a plane and get those dogs myself
if that was me i would have NEVER left thos dogs behind

reply

I saw first the original version, Nankyoku Monogatari, that one is 100 times more sad the 8below. Even you'll cry when the plane leave the base.

After saw 8below, just got some sadness. But not cry.

reply

I'm watching the movie right now and i can't stop crying. I own 2 cats but i want a dog really bad. I hope these dogs make it back to him. I hope they don't die you know.

reply

Yeah, just when he left the dogs i began crying. Iam so happy i didn't watch this in the theatre, i would have looked so stupid secreaming that Jack and and the other twin died....my bro and sis thought i was crazy.

reply

My mom took my brother to see this in theaters over the summer and my mom and I started crying when we found out Jack died! My mom and I cry all the time at movies (i.e: we still cry when Mufasa dies in the Lion King or when Littlefoot's mom dies in the first Land Before Time Movie). My brother (he's 9 years younger than me) looked at us like we were crazy. But I love this movie...
P.S. We're watching this movie in school (just started it today) and knowing me I'm gonna start to cry...in front of my classmates...

How do you spell OC?And what's the number for 911?

reply

I agree with you. Eight Below made me sad, but Nankyoku Monogatari defintely makes you cry especially when they show the dogs name and age after they died. The ending to Nankyoku Monogatari is definitely more emotional than the ending to Eight Below because of the beautiful music they were playing as the 2 dogs are reunited with the scientists, and the tears of joy that you see on the scientist's faces.

So...I'm crying since the movie begun...
I stop watching it for a moment to know how many dogs would die..only 2 but it's too sad... I'm not a Dog person..I have 2 cats but this really touches me... i want to see the end of the movie but i know that i'll cry til it end...
ahh god..i have to see it..hapilly i'm alone my mom quit watching it...
I'M STILL CRYING LIKE A BABY...
I guess i'll dream with the dogs tonight..

excellent movie..

Jan,

You should check out the ending of the Japanese movie that inspired Eight Below. While Eight Below didn't make me cry, the ending to Nankyoku Monogatari definitely did. It's a beautiful ending with the wonderful acting, music and slow motion of the dogs running toward the two scientists as they are reunited. Here's the link:

Man, I couldn't even finish the movie, I was crying so much. I cried like every five minutes. I didn't want to watch it in the first place cause I knew some bad stuff was going to happen to the dogs, but my sister made me watch it. I sat on the floor with my pomeranian and a tissue box. I wanna finish the movie, but I don't think I can, lol. I love animals so much, especially dogs.

reply

Just saw it..oh my.. if only humans were like animals! Surrounded by my cats now, ex took the Husky I found at the 7-11 down the street . How ANYONE could throw away an animal is beyond my ken. Again. I prefer animals to people.
The dog's name was FOUND...he/I went throught the sasha/misha russian stuff...with no reponse from HIM.
As cats name themselves (TSEliot) so do dogs. YURI...Yuri Andropov!!!
His ears perked immediately.. he was 'dropped off' and I/We got him and took him home.
Alas, no proper time for a dog here.
Perhaps....in whatever future I have

i dont think i could have taken it if all the dogs died in the movie. i went through a half a box of tissues, and i already started crying as soon as they left the dogs there. then continued for the rest of the movie.
but what i don't know is why old jack stayed behind. i couldn't hear because i was blowing my nose. (and what was the name of the other dog that fell because he was chasing the colored lights?)

I saw this on cable the other night and really tried NOT to cry. But, I know how I am when it comes to animals and knew that eventually, I'd break down. When they left the dogs, I almost started. When the dogs broke free from the chains and one stayed behind, I started and I couldn't stop. Just thinkin' about it is gettin' me teary eyed! When the movie ended, I cried even harder for, like, another 30 minutes! It was just miserable. Disney really screwed me with the animal pictures. First "Bambi", the scene with Bambi's mother, and now this. I wish Disney would just stay the eff away from animal pix. I thought "hey, it's a Disney film, how bad can it be"? It's like with the teen slasher flicks, they're like, how many different ways can we kill off a bunch of teenagers? "Eight Below" was like, how many ways can we kill off sweet, beautiful, life-saving dogs with snow? I mean, this was ridiculous!

*beep* you, Disney! And I mean that from the bottom of my animal-lovin' heart.

Thanks for reading, IMDBers.

Hello,

You must remember that this was "inspired" by a true story. So, there were some dogs that were bound to die in the movie. In the movie, at least 6 out of 8 survived but in real life only 2 out of 15 survived. I agree with you that when they left the dogs, that was really really sad.

I just saw this over the weekend on cable; I'd sort of been avoiding it because I'm a dog lover (we have 5 dogs, all rescues, including a husky and a husky/german shepherd cross) but I was channel surfing and it had just come on so I watched.

I got very misty eyed at several parts (Old Jack staying behind, Max staying with the one that fell and 'losing' the others in the snow, Max presenting Maya with the food, then when she rejects it he does it again, and so do all the others), but I totally lost it at the end when the snowcat drives away and the camera pans down to the cross with the two collars hanging from it. I had to get up from bed (it was 2am) and go lay down next to my husky (Skor) and husky cross (Thor) for a few minutes to compose myself.

Very good movie.

Hi Nomad, with all due respect, I know it's "inspired" by a true story and that the original story was big in Japan. I guess what really pisses me off is that Disney thought that a story about beautiful, loyal dogs dying after being F-ed over by humans would be good family entertainment. There are plenty of stories about animals that end on a happier note that they could've chosen to make a film about. Why this one?

What!? I WISH I knew what you meant.

Anywho, it's a couple of days since I watched the movie. It was just very emotional. I've calmed down n' I just might watch it again sometime. I've emerged from the misery with a whole new respect for canines. I love my dog to death, but I think I took him for granted before seeing this. Now I find myself spoiling him rotten.

I still think the dogs coulda mauled Paul Walker & co. at the end. Just a little. Like, bite an ear and a nose off or somethin'.

What I find weird is when there are movies about people who die most people don't cry, but the second it's about an animal, we cry like little girls. LOL, its kind of funny. But I definitly cried like a baby, I thought I was just going to cry towards the end, but I ended up crying every two seconds. I made it worse for myself, cause every time I saw a sad part, I would look over at my dog, and imagine having to leave him there, and have him go through all that. It just made me cry so much more. I swear I cried an ocean on my bedroom floor.

reply

I-MovieLover4-ever, I know exactly what you mean. I even said that about myself in another post. I can watch humans get blown up, shot, whatever and not bat an eye. But, the second it's a baby or an animal, forget it! I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I think it's cos babies and animals are so innocent. When animals kill, it's for survival and/or because they feel threatened. Not for the B.S. reasons people kill each other. I don't even usually watch animal movies cos some sweet animal always has to die or get hurt...

"He's right, we're acting like f*gg*ts"

reply

For me, I've seen so many movies where people are killed and I get so immune to it that it doesn't bother me. (But if it was in real life that would be a different story.) And as for animals and little kids I guess it does have to do with their innocence, and its like what harm could that animal or child possibly have done to desereve any harm!

I started watching this today, my partner asked me what I was watching, then said "I cant watch it". I started reading up on the movie. I had to change channels.

We lost our Rottweiler in August this year to cancer and the pain is still so huge that I knew I wouldn't be able to sit through this entire movie. :(

Hopefully one day I can watch it.

reply

I didn't see the whole movie and don't think I ever will but it was on today and I saw some of it..the part where the dogs went in a shed to the end. Why did Dewey die (the one that fell)? Also, did old Jack even try to escape or did he just stay behind willingly? How did the other dogs escape their chains? Were they sad to leave old Jack behind?

*Stevee*

reply

Dang, just reading these posts is making me wanna cry again.

SexyStevee: Dewey, the one that fell, broke his leg(s) and couldn't go on with the others. Old Jack, well, one of the other dogs tried to get him to go along. Seems he was too old, tired and weak from many days with no food. The other dogs were able to escape their chains cos they hadn't eaten in some time and had lost enough weight to just shake the chains off. I'm not so sure about the others, but the one dog that tried to get old Jack to go along with them did seem pretty sad. Sorry, I don't know which dog it was, I was crying too much.
