I agree, if you are into movies at all this is BLASPHEMY. Peter Sellers is a legend and the Clouseau he portrayed is an epic icon. To me, this movie was never made, just like the new Indiana Jones or Star Wars ep 1-3.

I agree as well--this film never should have been made.

I never did watch the original Pink Panther. But the first time I watched this movie I found it pretty funny, and everyone around me was cracking up. This may not have been as epic as the original Pink Panther films (again, which I never watched) but the purpose is to entertain, nothing more, and for me (and my friends & family) it served its purpose well.

I disagree. The clear purpose of a remake is to remake the original. Therefore, the remake of The Pink Panther fails utterly in every aspect of its mission. If the purpose was merely to entertain then they could easily have made a crappy 'original' movie, rather than a blasphemous and painful-to-endure remake of a much-loved and inimitable classic.

The very nature of a remake implies "we can do it better than the other guys did." It's controversial enough remaking classic horror movies, but at least with those it can be fairly (if not always accurately) argued that the effects will be improved. But when you're remaking a comedy vehicle, which is what the Pink Panther Films essentially are, you are doomed to failure from the get-go. Clouseau will forever be Peter Seller's character. He created him. He owns him. No one else can be him, unless they're portraying Sellers as Clouseau, as in the case of Geoffrey Rush in "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers". In that movie it was an impersonation of the character in a biopic about its creator, and worked pretty well for that reason. (It was actually rather impressive, much like Robert Downey Jr in "Chaplin".)

Bottom line: It's very bad form for one comic to steal another comic's material! And that's exactly how this remake feels.

I'd suggest that you try out the originals (all of them), but as another poster has already observed, anyone who enjoyed the remake "won't get" the original.

no offense but "we can do it better" is very limiting.. can't the reason be "here is our take on inspector clouseau"? this kind of competition takes the fun out of this movie.. it's certainly doomed to failure because you're not open to the idea of a new inspector...

I "get" the original and the new pink panther movies.. are you one of those people who would call me stupid for saying I also like this 2006 movie? I'm not saying you're one of them but there are people who would praise sellers and bash steve martin because they think that that makes them sound smart..

have you considered the fact that most teens would prefer the new movies because they're more familiar with that adhd style of comedy?

reply

It's and insult to those great movies to compare it to this. I couldn't finish it.

Those may not be excellent movies but they are at least entertaining.

Okay granted the movie was definitely made for the money, and lacked depth and intelligent ideas. But taking all that into account, the movie managed to make me laugh and there were quite a few funny scenes in there that made it enjoyable.

I guess this is one of those in-between movies.
If you're just really picky on movies then you won't like it, if you just want a movie that is enjoyable, but not too much crap-Epic Movie, then you'll like this.

This movie was horrible because there was no Peter Sellers. There was no point in even making this movie at all because the original Pink Panther movies with Sellers are perfect just the way they are.

reply

Yeah I never watched the originals so I dunno how good Peter Sellers is, but I actually laughed out loud a few times in this film, but I was watchin it with a few mates on TV after a few beers, so that might have had a lot to do with it.

No, you shouldn't. If you laughed a lot at this film you should definitely NOT watch the Sellers version as you will not "get it" at all.

If you laughed at this, you should stick to films like, "Jackass, the Movie," or anything with Adam Sandler.
