This movie is a lot of fun. The atmosphere, music, sets, costumes, Ledger, the action and suspense were all great, to mention a few. Even Stormare was more fun than annoying (I tried to think the vaudeville style of him and some others contributed to the fairytale feel). There were some weak spots, and it's easy to imagine the producers being responsible for many of them, like the lame jokes, the feeling that something is missing etc. With more freedom and devotion this might have been a classic. The visuals had lots of innovative things and the jumbledness only adds to the unique experience of a Gilliam brand fantasy.
All in all, if you're bored with bland, predictable stories, or enjoyed wacky, somewhat gritty, gruesome fairytales and fantasy movies (including the Monty Python variety) as a kid, you'll probably love the movie, I sure did.
Just don't take kids to see it, it's no Disney picture, thank goodness.
