This movie is a lot of fun. The atmosphere, music, sets, costumes, Ledger, the action and suspense were all great, to mention a few. Even Stormare was more fun than annoying (I tried to think the vaudeville style of him and some others contributed to the fairytale feel). There were some weak spots, and it's easy to imagine the producers being responsible for many of them, like the lame jokes, the feeling that something is missing etc. With more freedom and devotion this might have been a classic. The visuals had lots of innovative things and the jumbledness only adds to the unique experience of a Gilliam brand fantasy.

All in all, if you're bored with bland, predictable stories, or enjoyed wacky, somewhat gritty, gruesome fairytales and fantasy movies (including the Monty Python variety) as a kid, you'll probably love the movie, I sure did.

Just don't take kids to see it, it's no Disney picture, thank goodness.

I just saw it yesterday (yes, I'm a bit slow with getting to the movies lately) and I really quite enjoyed it. Admittedly I was a little tired, so I might have laughed a tiny bit more at the jokes than I normally would, but even so I think the movie delivered what it had set out to do, namely entertainment.

After all, this is hardly a movie you'd expect to have any important message or anything.

Personally I loved all of the (somewhat twisted) references to fairy tales. Some of them really quite small (like the needle poking the girls' fingers for some blood - Sleeping Beauty, and the glass slippers - Cinderella). I just loved keeping my eyes open for the references.

Stormare's Italian accent wasn't the best, but I found the character quite amusing. Ledger and Damon did a very good job as the brothers, and it cracked me up everytime I heard Damon yell about 'beans'.

I liked it,but then I'm a Gilliam fan,and this is pure Gilliam,in some respects a return to the style of early stuff like Jabberwocky and Time Bandits. Nothing will beat Brazil amongst Gilliam films IMO,but this is a hugely entertaning film and I'm surprised it hasn't done very well. Here's hoping for a director's cut on DVD-I think it's obvious bits were missing from the second half.

I loved this film!! Going to watch it again tomorrow night - can't wait. Gilliam is a genius in my opinion, I think the critics have their faves and the ones that they love the to criticise.

I liked this movie very much. Watching it was a truly enjoyable experience.
What makes Gilliam's way of story-telling so special, is his ability to bring multiple layers of meaning to even a supposedly silly scene. Also, his care for picturesque details should be appreciated.

I liked the movie too. It's funny, quirky and worth watching. Ignore the critics. (idiots). The acting's great, the plot isn't bad either and I don't get why everyone slags it off for not being a ""masterpiece". Who cares?

Thanks for starting a post like this. I truly thought the movie was good and really enjoyed it. I also thought the kitten scence was quite amusing. Sorry to those i offend. I have two cats so don't think I have something against cats. I hope those people who didn't like the movie stay away from this posting because we don't care about your thoughts.

i liked this movie alot. i that it was genious. in fact, it is in my top ten fav movies list.

It's not great by any means, but visually it's very well done, it's also good natured on the whole and entertaining enough, which isn't faint praise at all. It's more than I can say for any for the boring, pretentious, condescending, mean spirited garbage some "auteurs" like Robert Altman have done. And come on who doesn't like taking cheap shots at the French?

I think this is a very good movie. And it's funny too. Besides, Matt Damon and Heath Ledger were pretty good in this movie (i mean acting).

I really enjoyed it. Both Matt Damon and Heath Ledger are so cute and the film was never boring. I loved the way they kinda put the different fairytales in it without taking anything out of the context of the film, it was so well done.
