What's everyones favorite to least favorite Animatrix short film? And Why? Here's mine from best to worst:
1. A Detective Story - By far this is the one I would love to see a feature length version of. The Film Noir look was well done from start to finish. Extra points for seeing Trinity a lot in this one too.
2. Kid's Story - The animation in this was really intriguing. It looked like it was all roughly drawn by pencil. Superb.
3. A Second Renaissance Part I - Powerful and violent, but very well told story of the time before.
4. A Second Renaissance Part II - Like part I, it makes you think.
5. Beyond: A very simple story with simple characters, but it had a very beautiful feel to it.
6. World Record: A very artsy film, at times the animation looked really whacked out, it wasn't too bad though.
7. Final Flight of the Osiris: The 3D animation/graphics is good but I got bored by this for some reason.
8. Program: Liked the bullet-time shots but the story didn't captivate me as much as some of the others.
9. Matriculated: Interesting concept but it all felt like a lights and effects show to me.
1. Beyond - Beautiful and intriguing. A rich experience and a surreal wonder. A film that stays with you long after. The voice-overs were wonderful too, adding a certain feeling of uncertainty throughout. 2. The Second Renaissance Pts 1 and 2 - A frightful and disturbing trip through the dark side of human nature in a story of man vs machine. 3. Matriculated - So sad and beautiful. A symbolic journey that's visuals are like drugs for the eyes. 4. World Record - A depressing story but still amazing and visually mesmerizing. 5. Program - A surreal array of comic-strip style images. Very interesting. 6. Final Flight of the Osiris - Interesting and somewhat sad but was slightly put down by the Play Station style graphics and opening sequence. The action scenes were quite dull too. But the end recovered the film before it went too haywire. 7. Kid's Story - Beautiful animation but the plot was weak. I loved the end sequence on the computer screen. 8. Detective Story - Clever but it felt like several scenes from a film strung together loosely. The scene where the cat throws him the hat put it down a lot. As I said it was clever and was certainly not bad. In fact none of them were.
1 & 2. "The Second Renaissance Part I" and "The Second Renaissance Part II" (IMO a pretty good prequel(s) based on the events depicted in these two segments, could be shot)
3. World Record
4. A Detective Story
5. Kid's Story
6. Beyond
7. Program
8. Matriculated
9. Final Flight of the Osiris (I like this segment but since it's the only in "3D" using CGI, it feels out of place and frankly a bit outdated, which doesn't happens to the rest of segments in 2D)
1. The Second Renaissance, Part I 2. The Second Renaissance, Part II 3. Kid's Story 4. A Detective Story 5. Final Flight of the Osiris 6. Beyond 7. Program 8. World Record 9. Matriculated
1. The Second Renaissance, Part II 2. The Second Renaissance, Part I 3. Final Flight of the Osiris 4. Matriculated 5. Beyond 6. World Record 7. Kid's Story 8. Program 9. A Detective Story
awesomeness if only there were 2 more animatrix made instead of the live sequal too bad people are so unfamiliar with anime
I loved "Program", and I enjoyed "Last Flight" and "Detective Story" a lot. I found all the others quite average. But then again I have very specific taste in anime (I like samurai-japanime and dark stuff, so)
Second Renaissance Parts I and II Detective's Story Program Final Flight of the Osiris Beyond World Record Kid's Story Matriculated (thumbs down for pretentious *beep*
Where is my Mjöllnir ! Where is my Mjöllnir ! Arrrghh!
you should watch the cowboy bebop movie and series, its done by the same guy that did your 2 favorite segments and the style is similar to a detective story
Program (got me very emotional, if i was taken out of the matrix I'd probably try get back in) A Detective Story (very cool) World Record (very interesting) The Second Renaissance (part 2) (overall awesomeness) The Second Renaissance (part 1) (overall awesomeness) Matriculated (very interesting) Beyond (very fun) Kid's Story (very cool) Final Flight of the Osiris (was almost bored)
1. Matriculated -- had the deepest, most philosophical and intellectually challenging storyline, excellent animation technique and overall best range of artistic styles, and felt the most like it belonged in the matrix universe.
2. The Second Renaissance Part 1 -- really good animation, and probably the most emotionally-affecting story.
3. The Second Renaissance Part 2 -- only gets rated slightly lower than part 1 because the story seems mostly replaced with action, but still fantastically done and very heavy-hitting.
4. A Detective Story -- amazing noir look, great pacing, cool score, and had a neat tie-in with Trinity, although the narration could have been a bit better.
5. Program -- the best animation in my opinion, and the action was awesome, even if the story was a little contrived.
6. World Record -- one of the better stories despite its brevity and somewhat ambiguousness, and the animation has grown on me.
7. Final Flight of the Osiris -- suffers from the same problem as most 3D animation: amazing attention to detail, but the movement seems stiff and non-believable, and though it felt the most at home with the live-action films, it still seemed a little awkward in its presentation somehow; not bad, but not great either.
8. Kid's Story -- had the second-best animation and was certainly very creative, but the story itself just didn't hold my interest.
9. Beyond -- the story was interesting but didn't feel like it fit with the same tone of the matrix overall, the art was pretty decent although it was probably my least favourite style, and while the pacing worked well specifically for this particular story, it didn't flow with the rest of the film and seemed to stand out like a sore thumb.
1. The Second Renaissance Part 1 &2- These are the most important stories to watch in the Animatrix, simply because it explains how the Matrix came to be. The scary part is that the story is feasible (in some respects) considering how humans deal with economic threats and outsiders. Animation was solid and overall explained a lot of stuff that the Matrix didn't.
2. Kid's Story- Overall this had the best music and feel to it. I felt that if this were to be done as a short film, it would intuitively feel like the matrix universe. The main character was also very easy to empathize with and you could almost make an instant connection.
3. Matriculated- As stated before this story raises A LOT of philosophical questions that I have questioned myself. If humans were develop a sophisticated enough artificial intelligence would that mean a chance of free choice for these robots? The animation was really creative but the only draw back is that it didn't really feel like a Matrix world, but ultimately it was its own story so that doesn't matter too much.
4. Beyond- While this was my least favorite in animation style, it had a really interesting story idea. I never really thought about the idea of a glitch happening in the Matrix which is why I really enjoyed this one.
5. A Detective Story- Very dark and stylish animation, which went really well with the story/feel of the short. I felt that this one could have been longer and should be made into a separate film, which is why I have it as low as it is.
6. Final Flight of the Osiris- Animation was nice but I felt like I was just watching a scene from the Matrix.
7. World Record- This one didn't really feel like it was in any Matrix world, just felt bland.
8. Program- Didn't really care for this one, probably because I don't care for anime.
