Animatrix - Your Most Favourite to Least Favourite

What's everyones favorite to least favorite Animatrix short film? And Why? Here's mine from best to worst:

1. A Detective Story - By far this is the one I would love to see a feature length version of. The Film Noir look was well done from start to finish. Extra points for seeing Trinity a lot in this one too.

2. Kid's Story - The animation in this was really intriguing. It looked like it was all roughly drawn by pencil. Superb.

3. A Second Renaissance Part I - Powerful and violent, but very well told story of the time before.

4. A Second Renaissance Part II - Like part I, it makes you think.

5. Beyond: A very simple story with simple characters, but it had a very beautiful feel to it.

6. World Record: A very artsy film, at times the animation looked really whacked out, it wasn't too bad though.

7. Final Flight of the Osiris: The 3D animation/graphics is good but I got bored by this for some reason.

8. Program: Liked the bullet-time shots but the story didn't captivate me as much as some of the others.

9. Matriculated: Interesting concept but it all felt like a lights and effects show to me.

Kid's Story 9/10 (My favorite story in Animatrix)

World Record 8/10 (About a sprinter who can run like a bullet and overcome the Matrix system, and fails in doing so only because he' drawn way more attention than Neo and the kid. A very underrated story)

A Second Renaissance Part II 7/10 (making up for the Matrix lack of explanation of how everyone ends up living in the Matrix. The robots' appearance could'be been more consistent by always having humans looks throughout the story)

A Second Renaissance Part I 7/10 (Same above)

Beyond 7/10 (About a place that allows the manipulated to act any way they want without the manipulators' control and is eventually discovered and wiped out)

Program 6/10 (Emphasizing the theme of making a choice between living in an accident-free, manipulative police state and a unsafe, unpredictable free world)

A Detective Story 6/10 (a story that pivots on Trinity in the Matrix, could've been lengthened)

Final Flight of teh Osiris 5/10 (I've already seen the same scenes in the Matrix. Too repetitive)

Matriculated 5/10 (My least favortite. Can be eliminated from Animatrix)

1. Program (I dig the samurai imagery -- GORGEOUSLY done!)
2. Final Flight of the Osiris (very nicely done; first time I'd ever seen CGI done like this -- and I LOVE Jue!)
3. Second Renaissance parts 1 & 2 (good back story though some of the images were a bit grotesque)
4. A Detective Story (nicely done look at a bit of Trinity's past)
5. Kid's Story (good story but poor animation, I felt)
6. World Record (not particularly interesting)
7. Beyond (ditto)
8. Matriculated (a bit too "odd")

1&2. A Second Renaissance parts 1&2- I like the semi-mythological telling of the rise of the machines. This works well with the various historic references it contains, too. Like the robots assumed elements of human history into their own mythology, in the same way Christians assumed many pre-Christian elements into theirs.

3. A Detective Story- I enjoyed this Noir style story, though the Trinity dialog is bloody awful. Still, the look and feel of it is great, and I like that it's so stylistically different.

4. Beyond- This is the sort of thing I liked about the idea of the Matrix. Normal every day people coming across strange things that are bits of corrupted code or what have you. And the agents are out to clean them up.

5. Matriculated- I like the Heavy Metal Magazine feel of this one, plus it's just a mind melter. The visuals are nice and I like the idea of waking up the robots.

6. Final Flight of the Osiris- There's really nothing to this. But dang, it looks great. Very little story, very little point. It's just a pre-credit sequence for the second film, really. But it's beautifully made.

7. A Kid's Story- I find the animation somewhat annoying, and I hate the kid character, so this one doesn't do much for me. Still, there are a couple cool scenes.

8. World Record- The super-stylized nature of this one was interesting, as was the idea of someone awakening by pure will. But the whole kind of falls flat, and the very end is too much of a whimper.

9. Program- I honestly hate this one. It's the most 'anime' looking, with the pointed chins and giant eyes, and the motion lines, and silly action. Plus, it just doesn't seem to be about anything. Or at least, by the time it's over, I don't care what it's about. Whenever I watch this disk, I skip Program. It annoys the crap out of me.
