your ONE favorite scene

okay, I'll go easy... you get one favorite in Part 1 and one favorite in Part 2. Pick 'em and weep.

(I acknowledge that this is a bit of a steal from GI's 'SINGLE favorite line' thread, but oh well. I guess I'm tired of seeing all the angry trollbait threads at the top of the board.) Come on kids, let's have some fun! Remember fun? Favorite scenes.... go!

The best scene in the whole movie is easily to me the dual dream scene. There are so many great lines there and I thought Harpers line about seeing something pure in prior beneath the sickness just broke my heart.

reply

That is a great scene-- truly an unusual circumstance, those 2 characters coming together. and every line is perfectly written

The Big Scene where the angel visits Prior and lectures him on Heaven and Earth, God, human beings and angels.

very hard to choose its all very emotinal and fantastic to say the least
Part 1
the breakups-its so emotinal and I was crying so hard and I really identified with Harper so that scene was difficult to watch
Moon River is a close second
Part 2
the scene between Prior and Hannah at the hospital it was so emotinal and sweet I cried alot while watching this and I still do
Also
Prior and the Angel its so amazing to hear the angel speak about heaven and Prior being a prophet its so amazing

My favorite scene in part one is the foreshadowing when Louis asks Prior if he would hate him forever if he left him, and he just kisses him and then says, "Yes."

In part two, I love the part when Belize is describing heaven to Roy Cohn. He is AMAZING in that part; it really represents how there's sort of a dark wisdom in his character.

My very favorite part in the whole movie is when Roy is saying that he's not afraid of death, and he says "Life is the worst." I was so moved. I don't know why, but it just struck a chord.

I'm not sure what my favorite scenes are overall, but, since I just watched it again yesterday, I can give my favorite scenes this time around.

Part 1: The rabbi's eulogy. It connected with me more completely this time than in the past.
Part 2: Harper's conversation about change with the mother dummy in the Mormon visiters center. She says something about being a pile of guts pretending. That is so true. I have been abandoned and you just go to work pretending to be alive when everything inside you feels dead.

There are so many great scenes how can you choose? Pretty much every scene with Jeffrey Wright is amazing.

Part 1- I loved the opening scene with Meryl Streep as the rabbi.

Part 2- Belize's speech about heaven was really well written, and Jeffrey Wright delivers it to perfection.

Also the scene when Prior is in the exam room in the hospital talking to Hannah, the interaction between the two and the way Hannah gives him the acceptance and comfort Prior needs so badly. Then later when she keeps repeating "I just slept in the chair" LOL

I have probably answered this before but I absolutely love the MoonRiver scene. The love in Prior's face is amazing!

reply

all scenes are completely fabolous but my favourite is the looong monologue at the end of the first part done by no one else then Al Pacino

reply

My favorite scene...it's probably a tie. I loved when Louis and Prior meet in the park and Prior sticks up for himself. Then, when Louis asks Prior to take him back in the hospital and Prior makes sure that Louis knows that although he loves him, he can't take him back. I had read the play before seeing the movie and this just made it so much more...real for me. Justin Kirk was insane as Prior, INSANE! This one really moved me.

...can I ruin the moment and quickly admit that I hit the rewind button more than once when Belize and Louis were having their discussion about race in the diner? And it wasn't because I missed anything they said...Beautiful!!!

PART 1: The dual breakup scene. Powerfully acted by everyone involved. It was one of those scenes where afterwards you just sit staring at the black screen for a few minutes, the whole time thinking WOW.

PART 2: The scene where Belise describes heaven to Roy. Belize's "That was heaven" line is unbelievably chilling and the look on Roy's face is priceless. Jeffrey Wright and Al Pacino are two of the best actors I've ever seen when it comes to line delivery. Every scene that they are in, each line is beautifully crafted, and this scene is where that delivery is at its peak.
