your ONE favorite scene

okay, I'll go easy... you get one favorite in Part 1 and one favorite in Part 2. Pick 'em and weep.

(I acknowledge that this is a bit of a steal from GI's 'SINGLE favorite line' thread, but oh well. I guess I'm tired of seeing all the angry trollbait threads at the top of the board.) Come on kids, let's have some fun! Remember fun? Favorite scenes.... go!

I'm actually not so good at remembering what is part 1, and what is part 2, so bear with me...

Millennium Approaches: The opening scene with the rabbi would be my favourite. Lou's scene with the Rabbi, Roy's first one with the phone, and the Moon River dance would be the runners up.

Perestroika: Prior's final monologue. Or Belize's I Hate America speech.

Moon River tops my list. When the music blooms, it never cease to raise the hair on the back of my neck, it still does 9 years later. Love the part when one ancestor says "the world has gotton terribly old," and fades away.

Then the dozen of other favorite scenes follow.

The Angel's second visitation - I love the non-verbal interaction she has with Hannah before the kiss.

That's a great one. Meryl Streep looks great in that shot after she's been kissed. Like she's been renewed.

My favorite in Part 1 is Prior's dream/Harper's hallucination. They were just so cute/sad/funny together, and Justin Kirk was totally channeling Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford! I also love Louis and Joe's first meeting in the bathroom; I melt a bit inside when Louis kisses Joe's cheek as he's leaving!

Part 2, I love when Belize steals the medication from Roy's fridge after he dies, and when Louis does the Kaddish for Roy (in tandem with the ghost of Ethel Rosenberg)... "Fine? What are you talking about, fine? I was f*ing miraculous!".

I love, love, love this miniseries, and what a masterful realization of Kushner's plays. I think it's perfect.

My favorite moments include:

The gorgeous and moving opening credits
The beautiful opening sermon
The moment when Belize comes into Prior's room and throws the glitter, and Prior laughs delightedly
The "threshold of revelation" scene between Harper and Prior in their dreams
James Cromwell's speech to Cohn
Every scene with the Angel
All of Prior's dream sequences
Moon River
Harper's conversations with the devil in her imaginings
Pretty much every Hannah monologue
Belize's speech about the Star Spangled Banner
Prior's final speech to us ("You are fabulous")
Harper's final speech about the 'rising' of souls

Hmm..perhaps not my favorite scene, but definitely one that sticks in my mind because of Al Pacino's fantastic line:
"I wish I was an octopus. A *beep* octopus! Eight arms and all those suckers!!!"

I love the whole thing so much, but if I had to pick two:

1. "Threshold of revelation," Prior and Harper, in Part 1.
2. The Angel's blessing of Prior in Part 2. (tied with Belize's amazing monologue about "The Star Spangled Banner")
3. Favorite part in general (all): The gorgeous, moving opening credits. My favorite opening credits of anything ever.

Cheers!
