Anybody else watch this in school a million times?

Is it just my school system that's super into this movie, or does anybody else out there have to watch Remember the Titans in, say, Social, Gym, Religion, English, you name it... This movie is apparently a teacher's dream and I had to watch it at LEAST once a year from about grades eight through eleven, at two different schools. (Not that that's a bad thing; I like Remember the Titans... y'know, the first 5 or 6 times...)

yeah we have 2 watch it at our school bt id rather watch da movie than do written work anyday

reply

What other movies do they show in schools these days? I would think that these would be popular:

Freedom Writers
Lean on Me
Stand and Deliver

I went to high school in the 80's. I only remember getting to see Das Boot and My Fair Lady. A movie like Remember the Titans would've been great to watch in school, though.

Really?? I went to school in the early 70's and we were shown Deliverance in one English class, and our English Teacher took us to see One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest at an actual movie theater, too. That was a fun school outing!

reply

Finding Forrester was the big one in my school system. Literally had to watch that every year from Grade 9 through 12, some years in multiple classes.

reply

yep! we watched it in a bunch of different classes, and once in a while we'd have the afternoon off and go watch a movie in the auditorium...and at least twice, it was remember the titans. and i watched it at camp. but like you said, not necessarily a bad thing. there are far worse movies that they could have picked to drill into our heads; this one is pretty good and i like it.

this is my third time at three schools watching it. we also watch "The Ruby Bridges Story" or whatever that movie is called a lot.

reply

Studied it this year. . . my favourite bits are when the teacher pauses it so we can write down page long quotes. Or when the teacher tries to quote it but gets it off time.

reply

We watched it when we did racism in Religious Studies. We hated it though, found it boring and this boy said to the boy who'd brought it in "Why did you bring this in???"

reply

Ah yes, writing down page-long quotes. A familiar experience. =o)

reply

A teacher in our school district was a teacher at the school at the time Freedom Writers happened. He wasnt in the movie or anything, but its still pretty cool.

reply

yeah we actually watched it tuesday.

In the moment it felt so right, but now im sick inside.

reply

Yeah, Social studies class in grade six.

reply

yea we watched it in 7th grade social studies.

reply

I watched it in 9th and 10th grade so far.

I've also seen The Pianist about 2 times in school, and Saving Private Ryan 3 times.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is the worst anime show ever created.

reply

Well the first time I watched it. I was in the 7th grade (in reading class), and I enjoyed it very much. But then later on my social studies teacher showed it to us again about three or four more times in that grade and even though I still enjoyed it, just like I enjoyed it today when I watched it.

I probably don't make any sense... Haha, but I kind of (do) agree though cause they do kind of show it a lot in school!

Headstrong to take on anyone-Trapt.

Yeah saw Remeber the Titans about 3 times; 7th & 8th grade then again in 10th. Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Far and Away, Glory, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Pianist, The Crucible, the obligatory sh itty Shakespeare movie, & The Player's Club

Well the only time we watched movies in school was mostly up until 8th grade where after an exam or something we'd watch a movie. We did watch 'Remember The Titans' after an exam and still to this day it is my favorite movie. Then in high school my one class it seemed all we did was watch movies. They were part of the class though because they taught us things.

Kramer vs. Kramer-Divorce process
If God Were The Sun-grieving process
Odd Girl Out-Friendships gone bad

hmm I think we watched a few more but those are all I can remember.

Do the Huffle-puff

Robert Pattinson<3

Just twice....and once I brought it in to class. I just love it!

I can't remember ever watching this at my schools. If anything they just wanted to show us Finding Nemo every year I was in middle school (which I find extremely boring on repeat viewings) and once in high school in Spanish. That's the movie I've watched the most in school.

We watched Dead Poets Society last year in English though and then she'd only ever show us clips of The Crucible and The Great Gatsby.

We also watched Take the Lead in Spanish class and West Side Story last year.

And my Biology teacher showed us Princess Monoke at the end of the year last year. He's a big anime and Japan fan. He loves Pokemon like crazy too.

And in Fashion Marketing this year we watched The Net which had us busting out laughing at some scenes in it! That was really entertaining (it's not a comedy though lol, just had some terribly ridiculous parts). And we also watch Project Runway every week, which is cool. Sports Marketing watched Friday Night Lights (the TV show).

This year my history teacher seems to want to show the most boring movie ever that only has narration and pictures, and not like the pictures fading in or anything to make it more interesting. I still prefer it to book work or group work (I hate group work with a passion!) but it's just so boring!

reply

You get to take Sports & Fashion Marketing at your high school?? That's cool, I wish we had those at my school, lol.

reply

Now that's the kind of teacher I wish I had had in high school (your biology teacher).

I think we saw Remember the Titans once. The Miracle of Life was the most commonly shown, actually. I think we saw it twice, although some students couldn't watch the entirety for religious reasons.

Googol! Googolplex! . . . I guess that's one way around the 100 Chars limit :-D

reply

Yeah when I was still in school we must have watched this and October Sky about 10,000 times each.

I studied "the mighty", "the war of the buttons", "pay it forward","witness" and "dead poet's society' for English film study. we watched a dodgey Stalin movie for history.we watched the simpsons episode "bart vs australlia" for geograghpy(for the 2 minutes it focuses on the coriolis force). for an 8th grade outing when watched Apollo 13 at the Imax. Personally, i think movies loose their edge when we have to watch them at school. i personally find Remeber the tiatans a bit wishy washy, and that little girl irritates me. however it does seem like a movie one would have top study in order to be "enlighted"
