Anybody else watch this in school a million times?

Is it just my school system that's super into this movie, or does anybody else out there have to watch Remember the Titans in, say, Social, Gym, Religion, English, you name it... This movie is apparently a teacher's dream and I had to watch it at LEAST once a year from about grades eight through eleven, at two different schools. (Not that that's a bad thing; I like Remember the Titans... y'know, the first 5 or 6 times...)

Yeah I watch this movie in one of my classes at least once a year. I also watch movies like Secondhand Lions, October Sky, Cheaper by the Dozen, and many other PG rated movies throughout the school year. I think it's really pathetic that high schoolers are only allowed to watch PG rated movies because our teachers don't send home video permission forms.

The first time I ever saw this movie was in 8th grade in 2002 and that was about 4 or 5 times we saw it in school, and once again in 10 grade.

reply

seriously...this was THE school movie...like everyone would vote for this over ANY OTHER MOVIE...

teacher: "So class, would you rathr watch the Dark Knight in blu-Ray on a 1080i TV with a secret ending and the cause of the jokers insanity...orrrr remember the titans on laserdisc with a wooden 1980's tv....and the plug ins might noot work.."

Class: "REMEMBER THE TITANS!!!!"

I actually first saw this movie in a college education/film course. Greatest course I ever took, all ed. majors and minors watching movies showing all aspects of education, and critiquing them. Used this as an example of racism in schools as well as teaching through coaching. Other movies we watched included Blackboard Jungle, Lean on Me, Stand and Deliver, American History X, Educating Rita ... it ran the gamut. And you know what? I actually think I learned more about teaching in this class than I did in some of my Education Theory courses.

I remember awhile ago in eighth grade watching this after one of our exams so we would keep quiet or something and now it's one of my favorite movies.

Too old to have watched in school, but T.C. Williams was my high school (long after what happened in the movie - I graduated there in 1988). Bill Yoast was my 11th grade gym teacher.

Well I never saw this when I was in high school, but now I'm a high school English teacher and do show it to my classes. We read poetry in our textbook about racism and there are a few sports poems. I also show the old and new Romeo and Juliet movies, October Sky, and To Kill a Mockingbird. They all tie in nicely.
And like someone said, it's a shame we can't show R-rated movies in school. There are plenty that the kids could learn from.

I wish I was in your English class lol.
