Who is the girl???

This has been bugging me, i've watched the ninth gate but i don't get who the girl is. i wondered if she was the whore of babylon or something cos she was with some beast on the picture, like in the book of revelations. is she a demon? i'm so confused. it's quite obvious that she isn't human. and where does the ninth gate lead to? heaven? hell? I remember someone mentioning hell on the boards but why would any human voluntarily go to hell?

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise

Maybe the girl IS the ninth gate. Like shes the living embodiment of the Ninth Gate. All the other gates where events that happened to corso. Like his friend hanged, the iron walkway almost collapsing on him, being bludgeoned in keslers office, etc. The last engraving shows the girl riding a beast and pointing to the light. Maybe corso is the beast, Im not saying he's necesssarily the devil. How else would an artist depict a man that would challenge god other than by drawing him as a beastly creature?

The Girl is Corso's mother and the Devil is his father. Look at this excerpt from the first meeting between Corso and the Baroness.

"Strange we haven't met before..."

"...I'm sorry Baroness, were you in the middle of something?"

"My latest work. The Devil, History and Myth..."

"Why the Devil?"

"I saw him one day. I was 15 years old, and I saw him as plainly as I see you now. It was love at first sight."

Notice that the Baroness says that she never met Corso, but she did see the Devil when she was 15 years old. Judging from her age, Corso would have been very young at that time. It is reasonable to suppose that he had not yet even been born.

Now, if Christ was born from from a virgin, logically, the anti-Christ had to be conceived through an adulterous affair. Decades in the past, the Devil came to our world in search of a mother for his child. He revealed himself to the Baroness, because she was on his short list. But, the Devil's final choice was the Girl or Green Eyes. Paradoxically, Green Eyes is actually older than Corso, although she doesn't look it. And, by the end of the film, Corso becomes a mother f'er, and Green Eyes is once again with child.

Going to comment on this subject so as to nail it on my history board.
My take--Corso was Lucifer giving up his dominion over Heaven's lowest level by having been born as Man. Thereby entering God's upper level of Heaven through the back "Gate" as a new soul. There's many of hints pointing towards his placement of "Helpers" making it possible to achieved his goal. Like anyone else...keeps his greedy goals like everyone who seeks wealth, but--not necessarily evil? Hence his last cigarette before Rapture? JMO

Hello,
I was getting ready to start a topic about this, until I noticed someone already did. I watched the movie again last night; and was wondering the same thing. Is she some kind of supernatural force, a demon, or some kind of angel. At first I thought she was a kind of demon, but now I don't know. It seems like she could have been, because to me she knew a lot about the book; and she was always there at the wrong time. If anyone knows more about this topic please help me out on this.
THX,
Kris L. CocKayne

Did she slide down the railings when Corso was being beat up by the river or did she glide (fly) down the stairway
