Does anyone else have this problem? I think this movie is funny, witty & very creative (though woul love to read the comics for comparison) but everyone I know who has seen it has been well... terribly strident in there dislike
"I believe God created me in one day" Tell him to put you back in cause you aint done yet!
Put me solidly in the in the "love it" category. No, in my mind it's not perfect. Spleen is a little juvenile for my old man sensibilities, but maybe it helps the movie appeal to the junior high bunch. I think this is well acted by a brilliant cast with a clever, satirical script. Maybe not 10 out of 10, but a good solid 9 and there aren't many movies I'd rate that high. And, there's a message ... anybody can be a hero. (Yes, I work in a high school)
Love this movie, I've probably said that in this very thread somewhere. I think I visited this imdb entry not long ago - didn't think I'd be returning to it...so SPOON.
My husband loves this movie. Watched it today in fact. I think we have it on DVD somewhere. I use this one as blackmail when I want to watch Zoolander, which he thinks is really stupid.
I loved it when I bought the DVD back when it first came out. And when I was clearing the house out last week to prepare for the new central heating system being installed. I came across Mystery Men in one of the spare rooms in the house. I totally forgot about it. Thing is, the case was there, the disc was inside the case of another DVD I came across. Dunno how that came about.
Anyway, for the first time in like six years or more I watched this movie last night. And it has lost NONE of it's magic or laughter. None what so ever. The Spleen and Mr Furious and The Blue Raja still kick ass. And it's this movie that made me have a crush on Janeane Garofalo (sp?).
Criminally underrated this movie is. It deserves a higher score than what it has.
Mystery Men - 9/10
"MEDIC! MEDIC! MAN DOWN! MAN DOWN!. I CAN'T FEEL MY ASH!!!" - The Spleen
I'm also appalled by the low rating for Mystery Men. Honestly, this film has deleted scenes that make me laugh more than most entire so-called comedy movies - the one where they're trying to guess the correct combination of fast-food order numbers necessary to contact The Sphinx, for example XD
