Men n Women Showering Together? N they talk ard like nobody's biz? WTF?!

Ok, setting aside the absurdity of women training with men in the same infantry unit, now they had to take it even one step further of having the female recruits showering together with the guys !!

I remembered checking out my friends' expressions after that scene when I watched it at a friend's house. Everybody had their mouths agape and had absolute shock and disbelief written all over their faces. Man, that look was priceless.

This has got to be one of the most SICKENING, if not MOST IMPLAUSIBLE scenes in cinema history man.

You've got a platoon full of kids who are just fresh out of school; you can guess with raging hormones; who are discussing their aspirations and reasons for joining the infantry while being butt naked; and talking just like any other day, without a care in the world...

Are you fking kidding me ?! Man, is this show seriously treading on the thin line of being a porn movie or what?

How can any guy, in the right mind, be bathing around a bunch of nude chicks and not have ay 6 inch "physical reaction" to that ?! And still talking like nothing is going on at all ?

I was imagining a total different presentation given the same circumstances if you know what I mean..

How IMPLAUSIBLE & LUDRICROUS is this !!! Are those guys on hormonal suppressents or something ?!

Why didnt somebody say I joined the infantry just so I could see, touch and lick free t*tties?! I would have signed up if I knew the army division had such privileges !!

Yeah, why dont the TV ads in the show just use that as their slogan? "Service guarantees free T*Ts" !!! Lots of young fellas would literally throw themselves right in !!

Now you know why Rico was so determined and eager to join the infantry ... =D

And what sort of crazy infantry unit is this ?! To brazenly allow male and female recruits bathe together ?!

I am surprised they dont have to deal with issues like increased cases of rape and sexual harassment than getting trained to kill bugs !!

What the hell were the filmakers thinking when they shot this ?!

And why werent there a shower scene of Denise Richards ?! DAMN !!!

This is just one SICK, SICK movie that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

It seems absurd depending on who's watching.

If you follow the concept of "women and men are equal" into its full consequence, that would mean having men and women fighting and bathing as equals, together, side by side.
150 years ago, women did not have the right to vote like men, girls and boys did not go to mixed high-schools, women did not have the right to ride a bicycle, cuz of that saddle between their legs, and a lot more stuff.
But that was all happening only in the "city".
As soon as you went to the country side, at least in my country, young girls and boys went to the lake and swam naked together. That's how kids are made in the country side. Young girls and boys do stuff together, that in the big cities would be considered outrageous.

Anyway, this movie conveys the message that those young boys and girls in that fascist future, are being robbed of their sexuality. Rico is longing for love and sexual intimacy all throughout the movie, and all he gets is 20 minutes under the blanket.

Why do you think that the MPAA censors in Hollywood allowed the mixed shower scene? In their fascist minds, I bet you they felt that's how a right society should be - less love, more war.

Hey, art school superhero, aren't you bored with stuff, same old song in every post.

Well, this movie is a satire of fascism, Verhoeven himself tells you that. So, if you want to understand what happens in the film, you have to look at it through those lenses.

Notice how Rico's love life is a complete disaster, throughout the movie. What is Verhoeven trying to say with this? Why can't Rico get happily married with a woman he loves and who loves him back? Why did Dizzie have only 20 minutes of love under a blanket, then she died? What is the message here?

The message Verhoeven is conveying, is that a fascist society destroys people's lives. Rico and Dizzie weren't allowed to fulfill themselves through love, because that general they find hidden in a close on that outpost, sent them to wage war against some bugs on the other side of the galaxy.
Fascism, while it preaches freedom and democracy and equality and stuff, it actually systematically manipulates and brainwashes and robs you of your life.

The OP is sickened by the sight of naked men and women bathing together.

The OP is NOT sickened that the system destroys those men and women's lives.

Actually, that's normal in the German military. I worked for a laundry and bath unit in the US Army and we were training with German units. They laughed at us and couldn't figure out why we insisted the males and females shower seperately.

I regard it as equality. I think this is the most equal movie I've seen.

Does the OP really think that portraying men and women showering together in a non-sexual way and just having normal conversations make the film makers "SICK PERVERTED FREAKS!" But, constant scenes of people being ripped apart is normal and balanced? Pretty skewed outlook if you ask me

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing tits and gore equally. But, I can't see why he is so outraged at the shower scene with everything else that is in the film. I'm American and I never understood why a nipple or two will send people into such an uproar.

Anyway, just watched the film again, and when I came to this board and saw this (old) post and laughed.

I've got to say that this scene was incredibly well done, not shocking or titillating in any way. The actors were all so matter-of-fact with their performances in the shower scene that they actually made believe that in the future there could be absolutely no hang-ups about unisex showers in the military. Plus, the dialogue was well-written.

"not shocking or titillating in any way"

Well, there's the fact that a rather well-endowed woman was kept in the right side of the frame for most of the scene. :)

You got your mind right, Luke?

The acceptance of full nudity or what would be considered partial nudity is based on culture.
Many cultures for thousands of years accepted full/partial nudity.

Dominant Western, Asian, Middle-Eastern cultures have condemned nudity and so it is considered wrong.
But this does not have to be so in all possible societies in science fiction.

I had no problem with the showering scene as something that could happen in a society through science fiction.

BB ;-)

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈

I think the most unrealistic component of that scene was how much energy these kids in Basic Training had at the end of the day. :)

Huh?

Yah we segregate it now but it's not that far fetched to be honest. Ever gone skinny dipping with friends (girls/boys)? Not sexual at all. Even in college (US) 10 years ago we had boys/girls bathrooms, but they alternated floors. I was on the boys floor and girls were annoyed they had to go up/down one floor (I would be too if I was on a girls bathroom floor) so girls all the time would just use our bathroom. Course the only reason guys didn't use the girls' bathroom is some chick would prob. scream rape and screw the guy over... but clearly the equality injustice in this future setting is no longer there. This also appeared to be the same platoon so it may be that the military wanted that squad as close as possible...

Anyway, often times in my college dorm I'd be taking a leak and some girl would walk in with a towel wrapped around her to take a shower and sometimes de-robe before going in to shower. I wasn't and every guy wasn't just POPPING wood... give me a break. Most of the times it was like, "Hey sup Vanessa." Or you'd be taking a leak and it'd be like, "Oh hey." "Hey."

It wasn't sexual in nature. It's not like girls/guys were groping/kissing out in the hall BEFORE they came in the bathroom, and then jumped on the first thing they saw. Kidding me? Meeting someone naked is generally more awkward than anything. Many men are just as insecure about their bodies (size/muscles/fat) as women are about theirs (breasts, face, legs, etc.). It's MUCH different from intimately knowing someone for a while and then getting down to business where both of you are very comfortable in an already intimate relationship.

Give me a break dude... It's easy to sit there in front of a TV in the privacy of your home and drool over this. Put it in a real life situation and it's much different. A lot of guys their first time are nervous and can even have trouble getting it up and that's WITH the girl into it and all the physical contact.

Watch any episode of Big Brother in the European countries. The men and women shower together and it's no big deal. Americans are such ridiculous prudes and horn dogs that they can't imagine things people acting any other way.

I guess that's why Britain voted to leave Europe. Explains a lot! 💂

Do you think the prudishness causes the horndogishness?

Heinlein would likely be proud of the scene. It fits into a lot of his views.
