Looks cool! Hiddleston has done some great work.

Without Mel no Braveheart...

no Mel. No Braveheart!

maybe they could have a flashback to Wallace

So the next bit of Scottish history portrayed in a movie is a sequel? I'm looking forwrard to Braveheart VI-Massacre At Culloden then! Braveheart XIII-Nicola Sturgeon Beyond Thunderdome should be fun too.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Braveheart - The Wrath of the Kings gay son

reply

I really hope that it happens. It should of been made earlier, in time for the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn in 2014. King Robert the Bruce deserves the same international fame which Sir William Wallace has thanks to Braveheart. Bruce is Scotland's greatest king and certainly is one of the greatest of all our national heroes. If it does go ahead I hope that they do it right.

reply

Such a pity the Braveheart portrayed Bruce (irony being it was Bruce ,not Wallace whom the name Braveheart was historically given) as such a wimp unable to make any decisions on his own.

reply

A movie about The Bruce would be awesome.
I hope it gets made.

reply

There is a movie called "The Bruce" with Brian Blessed made shortly after Braveheart ,but it's very low budget and that low budget does show.

reply

If it is to be a sequel then maybe Horner will be back..

reply

Blessed was also in a 1994 movie about Culloden that also has a pitifully low budget (in the battle we see men sent flying by nothing, because cannon impacts were too difficult/expensive to film).

reply

Bruce is Scotland most FAMOUS king.Debatable though whether he's our greatest. He is up there probably in the top three with Kenneth MacAlpine and maybe David I.

Lucca Brasi sleeps with the fishes!!!

"The Bruce" was sidelined in Braveheart, yet it was he who eventually won independence for Scotland. His story needs telling and I am glad someone as talented as Hiddleston will be playing him.

I remember reading an excellent trilogy about Robert the Bruce by Nigel Tranter (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1460064.The_Bruce_Trilogy) AFTER watching Braveheart and a family visit to Stirling, where we saw Wallace's claymore (or so it is claimed to be) on display. At the time I hoped they would make those books into films. I still do.

Of late, there had been a notable absence of original historical epics. Ridley Scott chose to re-tell "Robin Hood" and then Moses - as if these have not already been done to death!

History is rich with movie material waiting to be used.

I think Gerard Butler would make a better Robert the Bruce.
Definitely a better choice for a physically intimidating Bruce but he would have been great as Wallace too.

This article is an interesting take on the real message of Braveheart:

I don't know, it just goes to a "404" error page.

unbelievably its been made with Angus MacFadden returning to the role of Robert The Bruce!

(that DMail news article in the OP actually turned out to be Outlaw King with Chris Pine obviously taking over from Hiddleston)

reply

I haven't seen it yet, but I want to. It kinda got crap reviews, but I stopped trusting those ages ago.

Have you seen it? Is it good?

reply

It’s pretty forgettable! Not a badly made film just feels pointless and doesn’t really go anywhere. Think they tried to make it a brooding character study but Macfadyen doesn’t quite have the depth for it and it just doesn’t really come off. Although not all his fault. It’s a shame cause there is a great story in there. Outlaw king was great and gets close but still feel that could have been grander.

reply

Mm...that's too bad...trailer showed a lot of promise.

Outlaw King was pretty good recently, Chris Pine was actually a good Robert the Bruce.

Then Robert the Bruce last year with Angus McFadyen reprising his role was pretty poor to be honest, the low budget showed.

I thought he was brilliant in Braveheart, haven’t seen him in much else apart from Saw III and Equilibrium though where in both he was pretty forgettable.
