Evil Dead 2 for me. It's very strong filmmaking, excellent performances, great pace and unique mood. A real classic. Watched ED1 once, never wanted to watch it again. Saw Army of Darkness only a couple (of dozens) of times, an okay one, if there's such a thing as a horror movie for the whole family - this is the one.
have a nice life!
Evil Dead II
You must say these words and these words only:
Klaatu barada nikto!
Army Of Darkness is my favourite, then Evil Dead II then Evil Dead.
"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"
army of darkness
evil dead
evil dead 2
love em all, but army is top-5-favorite-worthy
I agree with posters that claim that ED1 is the best. Same here. I love Evil Dead 2 very very much and is very amusing and stuff. It's lot different from the first but not worst in any case.
Army Of Darkness - I like it when I was younger, now I re-watched. Is still fun and stuff, but I think is not what the other movies was - horror with just little humor. It's more look like slap-stick comedy, almost none (if none) blood scenes, no suspension (at least for me, remember ED1 and 2 are full of suspension).
I am not expert in movie reviews or critics. I just didn't feel Army Of Darkness like a part of the ED franchise. Is great stand alone movie with homage to ED1 and 2 but is nothing like them.
I will glad to see new Evil Dead movie with Cambell in it.
Army of Darkness is easily the best for me.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn.
And in that exact order. The third movie AOD is not included because it's not really an Evil Dead movie. It's a movie made by those who made the Evil Dead movies but don't care for staying true to their roots. Hence the inclusion of the unwanted and extremely unwelcome comedy tone this movie took on and kept.
"Ray, when someone asks you if you're a God, you say, YES."

share1.) Evil Dead 2 (a work of art and one of my favorite movies of all time)
2.) Army Of Darkness (The first Bruce Campbell movie I saw. It made me an instant fan)
3.) The Evil Dead (The tree rape scene is one of my favorite moments in the whole series)
Choosing which is my favorite out of the three was very hard. Probably because they're so different from each other. Nevertheless, here are my thoughts.
The Evil Dead: When it comes to horror films, I'm pretty much a straight-up horror fan. I love a movie that is supposed to scare you silly, or make you run to the bathroom for fear of pooping your pants. So, as you can imagine, I love the first one. It's the scariest of the three for sure, so it ranks really high.
Evil Dead 2: The first time I watched it, I thought it was overrated. I didn't get why people thought it was the best of the three or why people were saying it was a perfect blend of horror and comedy. If anything, I thought it was more comedy than horror. But after seeing it again, I like it now. I think the best way to express my feelings would be just to say that it's a one-of-a-kind movie. In the words of Kilgore from Apocalypse Now, "Nothing else in the world smells like that." It's one of those rare films that you have to see to believe.
Army of Darkness: This one seems to get a bad rap among Evil Dead fans for whatever reason. I'm not one of those people. Army of Darkness is bar none the most entertaining of the three. It features Ash at his most badass, and it features some of the most quotable dialogue in the history of movies. Those two things alone are enough reason to put it high on my list. I think the reason fans consider this the weakest is because it's different from the others. I suppose that's fair, but I've seen worse third entries that were different from their predecessors (Back to the Future Part III. Now that one really sucked).
So, it's pretty much a three-way-tie for me. I guess I'll put The Evil Dead on top, followed by Army of Darkness, and Evil Dead 2 in last, but as you can imagine, it's all by a very narrow margin. To summarize, they're all great.
