Virtually NO females in this film?

Does that have anything to do with the theme of the movie? Any symbolic significance or it's just that Tom Clancy didn't come up for any good idea for a female character?

reply

Apparently, Jack Ryan is married to Beverly Crusher. She's a woman :)

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

Lucky bastard!

The Cold War was far too serious to fritter away resources by playing games with the lesser sex on front line battle vessels. There's your symbolic significance.

Just announced: The Hunt for Red October starring Meryl Streep and Emma Watson.
Almost everyone in the remake is a female.

And one more thing..
The thing I hate more than anything
on imdb is reading everyone's signature.

There are no women on board Master and Commander either. I am a woman and love both film. The omission of women in these movies does not bother me one bit, as per the time frame of both films women would not have been present.

Crimson Tide says hi

Yeah. Now I'm wanting to list movies outside Jack Ryan where the main characters and supporting characters are mainly guys and not women.
Die Hard with a Vengeance
King Kong Vs. Godzilla
The first 2 Toy Story movies.
Last Action Hero
Commando
Raw Deal
Red Heat
Funnily enough I can't think of any Superhero movies where there are no female characters.

reply

Yeah, it's totally unrealistic. Back in those days, there were always a couple women smuggled onto the sub in empty torpedo tubes. But I guess the Pentagon told the film directors, that's a state secret, it's treasonous to talk about it. Oh, wait, um... oops?

reply

It's a travesty. They should remake this film but make several of the key characters female. And transgendered. And, of course, persons of color.

reply

Tim Curry could reprise his role, but dressed up as Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Thank heavens! :-) Guys rule!
